6A. Status Display / Mitoka 1 (AR Humanoid Mini Robot Version)

“Huh? Upgraded Mitoka?”

As Shiro blinked in surprise, the space before him flared with light. Light particles coalesced, forming a shape before his eyes.

When the glow faded, a humanoid figure about thirty centimeters tall stood before him.

A beautiful girl with white bird-like wings on her back. Smooth features, long hair. Two sensor-like protrusions jutted from her head. Dressed in a combat suit that looked like a robot.

“Huh? What… an angel? Or a mini robot?”

“Shiro, it’s me. Mitoka,” the humanoid mini robot spoke. Mitoka’s voice had taken on a distinctly feminine tone.

“Uh… Mitoka? How exactly…? And this form… I feel like I’ve seen it before…”

Shiro frowned, mind racing.

“Shiro, this is AR—Augmented Reality. Only you can see it, and only you can talk to me. This model is based on a character from a game you made before. Since your soul’s magic system has successfully launched, the UI between you and me is now visual.”

Mitoka explained with a smile.

“Ah… the character from that game I made in middle school… nostalgic, huh.”

Shiro murmured, a wistful look crossing his face. Then,

“Wait—why female? Mitoka was supposed to be gender-neutral, or at least programmed more like a boy… and now even her voice is that of a girl…”

“Fufufu. Secret,” Mitoka replied with a broad grin.

“Secret…? Well, fine. But being able to see you is great! Feels more real than just hearing your voice in my head. …Still, she’s oddly lifelike.”

Shiro stared at Mitoka, fixed and unblinking.

"Yes, I'm rendering the image directly onto Shiro's visual cortex. Since it's accurately rendered from the scenery around Shiro, it should look indistinguishable from reality."

Indeed, just as Mitoka said, there was no sense of dissonance—completely blended into the surroundings. The colors, gradients, brightness—nothing felt off.

"This is incredible! No, wait—magic... You can't actually touch it, right?"

Shiro said that, then instinctively reached out toward Mitoka. He tried to grab her, but his hand passed right through her body.

"Shiro, suddenly grabbing a girl like that is terribly rude," Mitoka scowled at him, her expression sharp. Still frowning, she floated up and darted around him in a light, wobbling motion.

"Huh? Oh—sorry. I just... I'll be more careful next time."

Shiro apologized.

"Fufu. Well, it's fine. Anyway, it's AR, so you can't touch it."

"Yeah. Still, the way it passes through feels weirdly realistic. It looked just like my hand was going through her—there was even a shadow."

"Indeed. Even though it's AR, Shiro's system is implemented as magic in this world, so the rendering engine naturally approaches reality. You could say it's a superior upgrade to your original system."

Mitoka continued hovering just in front of Shiro’s eyes. Watching her, he muttered,

"Huh. I see."

"But in this situation, I feel like a fairy's form would fit better?"

"Is that so? But Shiro—haven't you ever modeled a fairy before?"

Mitoka gave him a sidelong glance.

"...Honestly, now that you mention it, maybe that's true? So we can't do anything without modeling data, right?"

"Yes," Mitoka replied with a serious expression.

"By the way, can you still read my thoughts the same way as before?"

Shiro recalled their past conversations with Mitoka and asked.

"Even in this state, it's the same as before. Your core is still within Shiro. If I could constantly read your mind, it would be possible—as long as Shiro grants permission."

"Then go ahead and read it all the time. It’d be more convenient this way."

"Understood," Mitoka said.

"Now, more importantly, Shiro, let's continue with the status display. If you've managed this far, you should be able to imagine a screen-like interface in front of you using your magic, and saying 'Status' should bring up the information."

Shiro thought, *I just wanted to check my status—why does this have to be so complicated?* (Maybe it's not supposed to be?) But he shrugged it off, focused his magic into the shape of a display, and concentrated. "Status."

The magic solidified into a translucent screen, and the status appeared.
