129. Golem Body
As a reward for repairing the mana-electricity conversion device, Gilbert proposed transferring something to Shiro.
"Ah, what am I getting?" Shiro asked, curious.
"I believe you’ll make good use of it," Gilbert said.
Shiro, Mitoka, Shestia, and Kotone were brought into a room.
"This is it," Gilbert said, pointing to the center of the room.
In the middle stood something resembling a charging pod. Inside it, a woman lay as if asleep.
When Gilbert manipulated what looked like a control panel on the pod, the lid opened and a platform rose up.
"What is this? Is the woman sleeping?" Shiro asked, puzzled.
"No, this is a golem body," Gilbert replied.
"Wait—body?" Shiro blinked.
They all looked closely at the reclining woman. Her skin was slightly pale blue, yet unlike Gilbert’s group, it felt more like that of a human. Her size was close to that of a human, slightly tall, with a well-proportioned frame. A beautiful, refined face. Long hair, chestnut-colored, reaching down to her waist. She wore a thin, white, sleeveless robe-like garment. So sheer it revealed her well-shaped figure completely. Yet, upon seeing her face, everyone thought—strangely familiar... for a moment.
"She’s like Lady Firumia," Shestia murmured.
"Yes. It was modeled after Lady Firumia’s statue. It’s said to have been created long ago by our ancestors, when they tried to blend into the human world. A new body made at that time, but now lost technology. No one can activate it anymore."
And he continued.
I thought, if it’s Lord Shiro, maybe he could manage it somehow. As I’ve mentioned before, we are descendants of a silicon-based mechanical civilization from some distant star system—summoned into existence when this world was created. For ages, we’ve survived with the aid of the Demon Kingdom and the Dwarf Kingdom. And this body? It was crafted using the finest technologies from that ancient civilization and the various nations.
Shiro thought Gilbert’s expression looked just a little proud.
“Our brains are designed to be seamlessly transferred between bodies,” Gilbert said.
This body was an attempt to integrate fully into this world by leveraging its inherent traits—recorded as a fusion of this world’s magic, DNA-based biology, and the original mechanical sciences. But it never reached completion. We simply couldn’t establish a connection with our minds. And now, there’s nothing we can do. So we wish to entrust it to you, Shiro.
And Gilbert said.
"Mitoka, you think you can pull this off? Judging by the conversation, I'm guessing you might be the one who can interface with this body?"
"Yeah... let's give it a try," Mitoka said, attempting a body scan and entity connection.
At that instant, Mitoka vanished. Her body flickered with a soft light.
But after about thirty seconds, the light faded, and Mitoka reappeared.
Shiro, I couldn’t establish a connection. No—more precisely, the entity itself was accessible. I managed to read part of the sensor array. But there’s no response from the overall control interface.
And Mitoka said.
"But you can connect at least part of it, right?"
"Yes, that’s right. The mobility switch on the body responds. The internal crystal’s magic, the auxiliary brain used for control, even the battery—all are functioning normally. But the connection sequence just... won’t complete."
Mitoka spoke quietly.
