第45掘:人身事故? (Part3)
Well, I look like a harmless fifteen-year-old boy.
According to the plan Mauve and the others agreed upon, I’m supposed to be a boy who was saved by them, admired their strength, and decided to tag along.
Rurua is set as my older sister, also tagging along with Mauve’s group. She’s already in disguise.
"Sis. Give me some tea."
"…Huh!? You mean me!? This feels so incredibly awkward…"
"Tea. Give."
"O-oh, right. Here you go."
A cup of tea is passed to me from behind.
I open the lid and take a sip, steering with one hand as I please.
"You’re quite dexterous."
"Once you get used to it, even Curse could do it."
Ah, we passed a few carriages and the occupants looked shocked, but since I basically hide the vehicle in my Item Box, I feel sorry for them, but no one will believe them. Rest in peace.
After about three hours of this lazy, otherworldly safari tour, Curse noticed something.
"Ten o'clock. At the edge of the forest… there are five or six trolls."
Curse had learned the meaning of clock positions after watching the goblin training. That’s impressive.
I looked in that direction, and…
"Oh, you’re right, those are trolls. Three-meter class… and even a five-meter one. That’s a big catch."
Mauve looked over and confirmed them as well.
"What do you want to do? We could just ignore them."
"We’re in a hurry. Though, thanks to this Marauder, we’re moving at an absurd speed. Either way works, doesn't it?"
"A five-meter class? It would take Mauve, me, and Curse about an hour to take them down. Well, since we have a Saint and a Dungeon Master, it probably won't take that long."
We stopped the Marauder to have a quick meeting, but the consensus was basically, "Who cares?"
"Kyaaaaaa!! Don't come!! Stay away from me!!"
A girl-like voice echoed from the troll pack.
"…Did you see a person?"
"No."
"……Wait, I see someone small. A child… but that looks a bit strange, doesn't it?"
"…!? Yuki, I suggest we save them. That’s a member of the Fairy Tribe!!"
"Eh!? The Fairy Tribe!? Why are they showing themselves in a place like this!?"
I revved the engine and slammed on the accelerator.
Given the distance, I just needed to hit 60 km/h.
"Everyone, seatbelts on!! We’re crushing these trolls in one go!!"
"Huh!?"
"We aren't getting out to fight!?"
"…Are you kidding?"
Mauve and the others turned pale.
"I mean, for creatures with that much mass, they’ll be flattened by a car moving at this speed, right?"
The trolls looked like your typical club-wielding fatties. Like the ones in a certain RPG.
Still, they were five meters tall. And unlike a block of iron or a four-legged beast, they were bipedal.
I aimed for their legs and executed a Marauder tackle.
Witness the power of a steel mass moving at 60 km/h!!
"Somebody, help meeeee!!"
Looking closely, the fairy girl was holding someone else.
Well, I honked the horn to draw the trolls' attention away from them and toward us.
And then, the lead troll became the first creature in this world to die in a car accident.
"Eh?"
From her perspective, it must have looked like a strange object came from the side and sent the troll flying.
So that’s how a human body… no, a troll body bends when it folds in half.
The impact wasn't that bad. The magic-based shock absorption is amazing.
This could probably mitigate the impact of mortars or tank shells. I’ll think about that later.
The troll was already covered in blood and weakened to the point where I didn't even need to finish it off by running it over.
I ended up hitting all the remaining trolls, too. Sorry about that. Is this what it feels like to hit a person?
The whole thing took five minutes.
I couldn't help but shout, "STRIKE!!" I’m not a bad guy for that. It really was just like bowling.
One of them managed to hit the Marauder with its club at the perfect moment, but it just bounced off.
Well, it’s basically an armored vehicle. It’s impossible for a living creature to break it with raw strength, right?
For the finishing blow, I carefully crushed the head of the troll lying on the ground, and the cleanup was complete.
"Th-that was a terrifying display of unreasonableness."
"…Are you planning to use this to siege a castle or something?"
"What could possibly stop this thing?"
"……Um, please don't ride this in the capital of Litea, okay? Promise?"
Most of the members were complaining, but I ignored them.
I drove the car right up to the fairy girl.
"Hii…!? No, d-don't come closer!?"
She was holding the other person as if to protect them, backing away. Was she fainting?
Well, to her, I was an unknown object that had just flattened a group of trolls.
I stepped out of the car and called out to them.
"We have no hostile intent toward you. If you don't trust us, we’ll leave immediately. If you’ll allow it, we’d like to provide medical treatment… what will you do?"
I laid out the words in a business-like manner.
I don't have the time to go around picking up stray cats and dogs and nursing them like some hero.
Still, based on Mauve’s conversation, they’re a rare race, so I’d like to bring them into the fold if possible.
"Ah, eh? Humans?"
She was confused, but there was no need to wait for her to calm down.
In fact, this was my chance.
If I act while they’re confused, before they can gather their thoughts…
"Sorry. I don't have time to answer questions one by one. If you come with us, I’ll provide treatment. If not, I’m sorry, but we’ll have to leave you here."
"E-eh?"
"Understood. I pray for good fortune on your path. Farewell."
I turned my back to them.
Yes, if you do it like this, unless they’re incredibly stubborn…
"W-wait!! I’ll come!! I’ll come with you!! Please, save this child!!"
Psychologically, this is what happens.
In her current state, I’m an unknown monster that just wiped out a group of trolls in an instant.
Then, a human steps out of the monster and offers goodwill by providing treatment. Her judgment is already overloaded.
And I added a time limit, saying I didn't have time to wait.
The information she has is: "They killed the trolls," "They saved us," "They are unknown," "They offer treatment," "They won't interfere if we refuse," and "They have no time."
If she were to weigh this with her own sense of good and evil:
- Killed the trolls: "Good."
- Saved us: "Good."
- Unknown: "Evil."
- Offers treatment: "Good."
- Won't interfere if we refuse: A mix of "Good" and "Evil."
- No time: "Evil" to her, but since it’s an impossible judgment, it’s "Neutral."
The verdict: Four "Goods" vs. two or three "Evils."
If she has any common sense, she has no choice but to reach out.
If she doesn't, it means there’s a village or something similar nearby.
If she just stood there blankly or refused, she’d be a nuisance on our journey, so I wouldn't need her anyway.
Even if they are a rare race, I have no intention of getting along with those who won't take my hand.
Thinking this, I picked them up and handed them to Rurua, who was sitting in the back seat looking stunned.
"Take care of the treatment. Now, where are the proof-of-slay parts for the trolls? Let’s grab them and get moving."
I kicked the stunned Mauve and the others into action, collected the loot, and we started driving toward our destination again.
"What in the world is going on here!?"
The fairy girl, who was receiving treatment in the back seat, screamed.
Well, that was a good way to kill time, wasn't it?
I won't hold back.
He will likely vent his pent-up frustration in all sorts of ways!!
(Let me know if there are any typos! Also, I’ve been playing Pokémon. It would be great if we could trade or battle sometime. Does anyone have that Rock/Fairy type from the movie? I have almost every other Pokémon in stock!!)
