"Indeed. My apologies, Yuki-sama, but I am not very learned, so I cannot tell what kind of dish it is just by the name," Kirue said.
"Fair enough. Alright, everyone who drinks alcohol, raise your hands."
"Yes!" "Yes!" "Yes!"
More than half the group raised their hands. Well, there aren't many children here, after all.
"In that case, alcohol and yakitori are the classics. Excuse me! I'd like to place an order."
Yuki proceeded to order a variety of yakitori and alcoholic beverages.
"Also, tell me, old-timer, how is *that* coming along? We've got kids here, so it might be perfect."
"Ah, you mean that? It's ready. I see, with children present, it might indeed be a fitting choice."
They finished their secret order with a few hushed words.
"Um, isn't it a bit too early for us to be drinking alcohol?" Shera asked.
"Shera-chan, we aren't children!!"
"We are Anisama's brides!!"
"Aslin-sama, Firia-sama, please calm down. I am well aware that you are both ladies. That is precisely why I worry; drinking alcohol often leads to behavior unbecoming of a lady. That is why..."
While Kirue was busy persuading Aslin and the others, Yuki turned to explain things to Shera.
"That's right. That's why I ordered something else—a prototype dish that should be just right for you. If it doesn't suit your tastes, don't hesitate to say so. It is a prototype, after all."
"I understand. But I'm sure that if it's a dish suggested by Yuki-san, it couldn't possibly be bad."
"Don't force yourself, though."
As they chatted, the food was ready, and a delicious aroma began to drift through the air.
"Coming through! Sorry for the wait. Here’s the yakitori and the beer. And here is the omurice. I’ve topped them with various sauces, so I’d be happy to hear what you think," the owner said, placing down dishes covered in fluffy eggs.
Each one was drizzled with a different kind of sauce.
"Onii-chan, what is this?"
"Anisama, how are we supposed to eat this?"
"Um, Yuki-san, is this called 'omurice'?"
The three of them tilted their heads in confusion, so Yuki arranged the omurice plates and placed them in front of them. Yuki took a plate for himself and dug his spoon into the egg.
"It’s seasoned rice wrapped in an omelet like this, topped with sauce so you can enjoy various flavors. I’m quite fond of it. Aslin, yours is the classic ketchup omurice. Firia, yours is cream sauce omurice. Shera, yours is lettuce omurice. Mine is beef stew omurice. There are others over there, like curry omurice."
"It's true, there's rice inside!!"
"It's so delish, Anisama!!"
"You're right. It's delicious."
Everyone was happily tucking into their omurice. Now then, I should eat as well. Which one should I choose? That one with the red sauce looks quite tasty.
"Is it good? That's a relief. Want to try mine? Here."
"Amu. It's delicious, Onii-chan!!"
"Anisama, Anisama! Me too, me too!"
"Um, Yuki-san, me too!"
Oh my, they've all become like little baby birds. I'll have to ask him to feed me later, too. Without a second thought, I scooped up a spoonful of my chosen omurice and ate it...
"Ah, wait a second, Labyris, that one is—!"
The warning came too late. The omurice was already in my mouth.
"Gahhh!! It's spicy!! Why is it so spicy!?"
It turned out that particular omurice had been a prototype designed for those who enjoy spicy food, and it certainly didn't suit my palate. While I was comforted by Yuki and fed other, more palatable omurice like a baby bird, I felt quite happy. Incidentally, that spicy omurice became a hit with Milly and Narjia, and it eventually became a staple on the tavern's menu.
"I really don't like spicy things."
That was the moment I truly discovered my own likes and dislikes. As for the omurice, from the classic ketchup to the beef stew version, and even the cream stew one—they were all wonderful. The demi-glace sauce is also quite good.
