外伝:俺たちは自由にやる!! (Part5)
Indeed, as the man said, the demons summoned in rituals of this kind often claim grand names, but most are mere low to mid-tier fakes. In fact, true demons, due to contradicting their own doctrines, are sometimes revered as gods in other religions. If such gods could be summoned by a paltry ritual like this, the world would have already perished.
"That's why I decided to summon something else. Do you have any idea what it might be?" The man understood that she couldn't reply. Yet, he couldn't help but ask. For the entity he was about to summon was truly that monstrous.
"Ah, my apologies. Without any hints, you wouldn't know. Well, I didn't choose this abandoned school at random. There's a certain legend tied to this land." The man pulled an old book from his pocket. Within it was written: Yamata no Orochi.
It was the name of Japan's oldest great monster, recorded in the "Nihon Shoki" and "Kojiki." A creature known by many names: god of the mountains, god of the rivers, an embodiment of floods. Seeing the name in the book, her eyes widened considerably.
"Haha, a good reaction. Yes, Yamata no Orochi truly sleeps in this land. Given the right trigger, it will surely revive!! Susanoo-no-Mikoto is said to have defeated it using sake, but this time, I, an observer, am here, so such a thing won't happen. The remaining four sacrifices are probably nearing their end soon. And you, you shall become Kushinadahime, who was once spared from sacrifice. Ahahahahahahaha...!! Rejoice!! You will be slain by the great monster, Yamata no Orochi!! After that, the world will be ravaged!!"
"Nice, next up is a global skirmish. I was getting tired of boring civilian hunting here. You're setting up a good battlefield, aren't you?" The soldier cheered, his voice filled with excitement.
She lamented her inability to do anything about the reality that was about to unfold. The man was intoxicated by the grand achievement of reviving a legend. No one believed those four would survive. No, no one understood that those four were the biggest irregularity of all.
Now, let's return to those four. For the conversation between the man, the soldier, and her had merely been a prelude.
"Oh, ahahahahaha...!!"
A woman without a lower body lunged forward. Her expression was beyond words, a true embodiment of terror. And the boys, facing this embodiment of terror...
"Whoa!? Awesome!! It's real!!"
"What do you call that? I forgot."
"Hold on, I'm about to remember. Te, te, Kei-On?"
"Idiot, why Kei-On!? Don't get it wrong in such a bizarre direction!! Teketeke, Teketeke!!"
They were completely at ease. Well, "Kei-On" wasn't entirely off the mark, given it was a female character and a school club manga.
"It's a school manga, right? Teketeke also has a manga, and it's been adapted into live-action, so it's not wrong!!"
"Don't get angry about that!! Also, when did this become a debate about who's right!? It's irrelevant!!"
In a situation where anyone else would immediately turn and flee, the long-haired boy and the normal boy began arguing in a different direction. But even as they did, the anomaly called Teketeke didn't stop. No, it was already too late. It had already leaped, pouncing on the closest, curly-haired boy. And if the rumors were true, it was heading towards a tragic end like having its limbs torn off.
"Yoink."
But no such thing happened. Its lunging hands were easily caught by both of his, and the Teketeke? dangled in the air. The Teketeke? itself seemed puzzled, tilting its head.
"Oh, it really doesn't have a lower half. No internal organs? Where are they?" The small boy peered up at the dangling Teketeke? from below. However, all he saw was something resembling blood-soaked rags and dripping blood.
"Who knows? Normally, if it moved like that, I'd think its organs would have fallen out long ago."
"Ah, right. So, what do you guys want to do with this? Let it go?" The curly-haired boy and the small boy, offering bizarre observations, called out to the two still arguing. The cause of their argument was the trivial question of whether this Teketeke? was the same as Kei-On, but leaving them to it would be troublesome, so they decided to ask for now.
"Idiot, it's Mio-chan, of course!!"
"You're Azu-nyan!! Her body type is almost the same!! And I said Mio-chan is my wife!!"
Utter idiocy had reached its peak. The topic had already shifted from whether the Teketeke? was related to Kei-On to which Kei-On character was their respective "wife." Slumping in exasperation, the ignored small boy shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Hey, what about this instead of that!!"
" "That's not 'instead of that'!! It's a wife problem!!" "
For the two otaku, this was clearly not a problem to be dismissed so easily, and they replied even louder, completely ignoring the Teketeke?'s fate. And in this abandoned school, now transformed into an otherworldly realm, such loud voices alone attracted more anomalies.
First, a severed head with a terrifying expression dropped between the two arguing boys. But without flinching, the long-haired boy grabbed it and threw it at the normal boy. The normal boy, opening his mouth wide, kicked the charging severed head as if it were a ball, sending it flying in a bizarre direction. The head flew towards the curly-haired boy holding the Teketeke?, but anticipating this, the curly-haired boy swung the Teketeke? and smashed the severed head even further down the corridor. He also took out a large number of anomalies that had been surging from the back of the corridor.
"Whoops, I forgot. This always happens when I hang out with you guys!! What do we do!! They're definitely angry!!" The normal boy finally regained his senses and complained, staring at the group the curly-haired boy had so skillfully struck.
"No, you should be happy. It's not something you usually get to experience, is it? This will advance science even further, you know?"
"Your 'science' only means 'miracle' when you write it!!"
"Well, well, let's put that aside for now. Look, that group over there seems angry."
The group of struck anomalies slowly began to rise. Hostility was evident towards the boys. No, the hostility had been there from the start, but now they were visibly enraged. Facing the enraged group, the curly-haired boy, still holding the Teketeke?, opened his mouth.
