落とし穴60堀:新しい物への心構え (Part2)

落とし穴60堀:新しい物への心構え (Part2)

"Oh, the visuals are incredibly crisp. And this isn't a photograph, is it? You made this?"

"Yes. It's called 3DCG."

"I see. I don't fully understand the technical side, but to go through all this trouble just to make a game... it's truly something else. It puts movies to shame."

As Taizo-san said, there are plenty of games these days that rival any film. This ambition of mine often sees me uploading gameplay videos online, and there are many fascinating titles out there.

"So this is the title screen. And if I press this button... hmm, there are quite a few options. I suppose I should start with some practice."

"That’s a good idea. If you do that, I think you’ll understand the rules of the game well enough."

Phew. It seems Taizo-san is the type who properly checks tutorials and manuals. He doesn't seem like the troublesome sort who asks questions without reading the instructions first. I wouldn't call them "bad" people, but they often drag others into their confusion, so I’m not fond of those who skip manuals. Actually, they’re just a nuisance.

"Hmm, hmm... It looks like a view of Japan from the sky, but the terrain is properly rendered... and... I see..."

Good, I can leave Taizo-san to his own devices. Now, let’s get to our own gaming.

"So, Yuki, which one are you playing today?"

"That is a very difficult question. Three major titles were released today."

"Yeah, that is a tough one."

"However, fortunately, since someone is playing one of them in real-time right next to me, I can cross one off the list."

"True. I can watch the content and use it as a reference to progress efficiently later. That leaves two."

Dark 3 or Dra-Q? ...Alright, I’ve decided.

"Taiki-kun. If you don't mind, could you play Dark 3?"

"I don't mind, but why?"

"Dark 3 is on a stationary console. But Dra-Q is on a handheld. There’s a high chance I’ll be summoned away at any moment."

"I see... Understood! Oh, but won't playing Dark 3 spoil the map and enemy locations for you?"

"Ah, I don't really care about that. I’ll just watch you get beaten up and breeze through it myself."

"Is that the kind of player you are? Then I’ll play without reservation."

The two of us rummaged through our bags, pulled out the software, and booted up our games. Naturally, we had prepared food and drinks to endure a long session. We had no blind spots!

And so, we lost ourselves in the games, forgetting the passage of time. This is the good stuff. There aren't many things in life that make you lose track of time so completely, are there? But we have this.

"Master. I know you are enjoying your leisure time after so long, but I cannot allow you to skip dinner. Please come."

Huh? Kirue sounds a bit angry. That’s rare. Besides, is it already that late? I certainly don't want to spend time that should be for my children and wives on gaming. As I stood up, another person visited the room.

"Taiki-sama, you as well. You said you would return for dinner, didn't you?"

It was Airi-san. Ah, so Taiki-kun made a similar promise. Well, it wouldn't do for a King to skip dinner.

"Ah, sorry. This is a good time to take a break anyway."

The timing was perfect—I had just defeated a boss and caught my breath. If I had been in the middle of a fight, I would have fallen into an "endless trial" of "just one more time."

I wondered if Taizo-san would be the only one left, so I went to call out to him, but...

"Taizo-dono, dinner is already prepared for you."

"Hm? Ah, Hifie-dono, my apologies. Let me just... save... and... alright, I’m coming."

We watched the two of them leave together, not quite sure what to say.

"Well, it’s not exactly surprising, but..."

"It’s so natural it’s almost awkward."

"I wonder. I’m sure Hifie-sama will have a hard time."

"I think so too."

...I’ll refrain from commenting on a man like that being oblivious. It feels like I’d just be poking a hornet's nest.

Now, let’s eat dinner! A new game release means about 15 hours of play a day, right? Yahoo, it’s release day!

As for my current situation:

Dark Souls 3: Defeated the boss of the early tutorial stage and headed to the Fire Keeper.

Sengoku Risshiden: Serving Oda Nobunaga, keeping an eye on things with stats all at 100. Actually, Imagawa is getting on my nerves.

DQMJ3: Currently at the graveyard island. Forgot the name.

For now, I really wish they’d make the day 48 hours long. Oh, but don't increase the work hours.
