"Exactly. As you can see, the shops are doing a roaring trade. But if you actually wanted to go in there, you'd have to push through this crowd and wait in the checkout lines. What usually takes a few minutes would take at least twice as long."
"Oh, I see what you mean. There’s really no reason to go out of our way to get in there, is there? We can always go another day."
"It’s usually not this crowded here, right, Jessica?"
"That’s right. As Yuki said, we don’t even have to wait in line on a normal day. I suppose this is the 'holiday effect' at work."
Ratz finally grasped what I was getting at, while Ria and Jessica chimed in to confirm that the crowd was indeed excessive.
"…I’ll pass. I’m going to sleep at home. There aren't any major events going on, so there’s no reason to head into that mob."
"I think I’ll skip the shopping, too. That crowd looks exhausting."
"I agree. We can get whatever we need with DP, and I’d be worried about taking the children into a crowd like that."
"As Kirue-senpai said, it’s not ideal for security reasons, and I don’t think it would be fair to force them to stand in line."
As Kaya and Riel pointed out, there was no reason to brave the throng, and as Kirue and Sasari noted, it’s a bit difficult for us to head out when we have children to look after.
While there are sales for Golden Week, we don’t exactly need to scramble for bargains to put food on the table, and there aren't any massive spectacles like fireworks displays to draw us in.
"Hmm. I understand your point, but then how do you plan to spend this holiday?"
When Seraria asked me that, I answered on reflex.
"I’m going to focus on my 'backlog'—the games and plastic models I haven't gotten around to yet. We haven't really had much time to just relax at home. Besides, wouldn't it be fun to play some party games with everyone?"
That’s right; Golden Week is also a time for working adults who are geeks to digest the treasures they’ve accumulated over time.
If I were back in Japan, I would have gone to a convention, but here in Weed, the very concept of manga doesn't exist yet.
This world is strangely similar to medieval Europe; the art of caricature hasn't been developed, and realism is the gold standard.
I just hope that, unlike in my original world, the proliferation of photography doesn't put painters out of business.
So, between the lack of conventions and the lack of manga, it’ll be a while before those kinds of events start popping up.
Looking at the history of the "God of Manga" in Japan, it would probably take about fifty years to develop manga if there were a catalyst, but anime would be even further off.
If I couldn't procure Japanese goods with DP, I think I would have gone insane by now.
"I see. You're right, we haven't really spent much time just relaxing at home. Come to think of it, I’ve left my games untouched, too. Sakura, do you want to join me?"
"Yeah!"
I don't think Sakura is quite ready for video games yet. But I suppose just letting her touch the controller is fine.
"I’m going to go see Vil-chan."
"We promised to play together."
"I see. We’ll be heading out, then."
"We’ll bring back some souvenirs."
The four little ones seemed to have plans to play with their school friends, so they headed out. It’s still too early for kids to be lounging around the house, so I think it’s healthy for them to go out.
After seeing the four of them off, everyone started to settle in for some downtime, just as they had planned. We’ve been so busy lately that a break like this is actually quite nice.
Well then, I think I’ll take a nap, and then maybe play some games.
I sat on the sofa, set up the console, and was ready to go.
"Ah, it’s been a while since I’ve had this feeling. Time to enjoy some gaming."
And so, the curtain rises on the holiday.
Still, having a family means I still have to handle meals and look after the kids, which is different from living alone. Not that I mind—it’s a good life.
I just hope I don't catch a case of the "May Blues."

As for me, I only participated in a convention on the 29th, and I’ve been relaxing at home ever since. I’ve been relaxing so much that my motivation to write vanished, which is why I’m scrambling to get this written now.
Oh, and I think I went to the arcade to play *Kancolle Arcade*. The line for that was incredibly long. I waited three hours just to play twice before heading home. I should probably wait for them to add more cabinets.
Other than that, I built a Nemo plastic model. Does anyone here know what a Nemo is?
