第394堀:お仕事は大変である (Part2)
"If we can suppress the core, the rest is easy. So, if the person in charge shows up, we just have to tail them, right?"
"That's the idea. The only remaining issue is whether Narjia-san has the technical skill to perform the tampering. What do you think? Based on the photos and such?"
I asked Narjia, who was already operating alongside Theta and Surakichi-san.
"Well... honestly, it's hard to say. But from what I've seen, it didn't look like anything particularly advanced, so I think hacking it will be a breeze. That’s just my personal opinion, though."
"Well, yeah, that makes sense."
I wouldn't trust someone who just looked at something and claimed they could do it instantly anyway.
"Now, as you can all tell from the briefing, the top priority is to guide Omega and support the tampering process. Without that, the diversion and everything else falls apart. So, first, Theta will infiltrate the Magic Sword Factory while escorting Omega. Once there, confirm whether you can crack or hack the system."
"Understood."
"Alpha, you're in charge of the diversion and escort to the zombie facility, so stay sharp. Beta, you're on residential area reconnaissance—keep track of the residents and secure an escape route."
"Understood."
"Operation start time is 0040. Finish your briefings and confirmations with your teams quickly and begin the operation. Status reports every five minutes. The operation is scheduled to conclude at 0400. Get ready."
"Understood."
Whew, let's see, it's 0020 now. Twenty minutes should be plenty of time to prepare.
"Alpha, how's the vanguard?"
"No issues reported."
"Good. Add a team to scout the interior, and don't forget to keep receiving intel from the vanguard."
"Understood."
We have to support Omega, too, which is a real pain. That person would probably just waltz in and out alone if left to their own devices. Though, I suppose I understand why we can't let that happen.
"Hey. Why am I working separately from the Clan Chief?"
"Huh? Well, obviously, we're splitting up. If the worst happens, we need to avoid getting wiped out in one go. If one of us remains, we can still salvage the situation."
"I'm not that well-versed in machinery, you know?"
"Ah, that's just you being modest. You might not build crazy weapons like Narjia-san, but as a Fairy, you have the base stats and high-precision magic control for it. You're pretty good at this kind of tinkering, right? You're always pulling pranks."
"Ugh, I guess so, but... I don't know if I can do it just because I'm told to..."
"It's okay. My Covil can do it."
"Oh, um, yeah. You're right. With Kiyu here, I'm sure it'll go perfectly."
Tch, people in happy relationships should just drop dead. That is the consensus of Team Alpha—no, of all the dateless creatures in humanity. Oh, God, why did you discriminate against us like this?
"I wouldn't know."
Ah, the moment a useless goddess shows up, you know things are going downhill.
"You’ve got a lot of nerve for a goblin, don't you!?"
Instead of eavesdropping, why don't you do your job? I could always expose you to the Boss and make sure you don't get any more booze, you know?
"I'm sorry. Please, have mercy..."
Ah, sorry. It's time for the operation to start.
"Wait!? Hey, I'm really not going to talk anymore..."
I cut the mental channel. It's such a nuisance that she connects her magic to force a mental conversation whenever she wants. Well, she only uses it for these kinds of jokes, so I suppose it's harmless. Just thinking about the kind of work a god has to do to keep from going insane is enough to make me shudder.
"Alpha, how are Beta, Theta, and Omega looking?"
"Beta, ready."
"Theta, ready."
"Omega, I'm ready to go anytime~"
"Alright, synchronize watches... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Operation start."
"Beta, moving out."
"Theta, beginning movement to the Magic Sword Factory."
"Omega, following Theta~"
Well then, will this wrap up smoothly in about three hours? I hope so. I’m exhausted from this night shift. In this world, success is expected, and failure gets you scolded. That’s the common sense of society. I don't intend to fail, and I'm only doing this because I believe I can succeed.
Well, it depends on the person and the situation, but it’s only natural to eliminate the factors that lead to failure as much as possible to ensure success. That’s why success is a given. Man, being a working adult is a drag—though, I suppose it’s necessary since money and survival are on the line.
The stress is off the charts!!
Well, I’ve written about the path to get here, but I won't go into the details of the results. It’ll probably be over in a single line. After all, when you’ve built up enough to make success seem like a given, and there are no troubles, it’s over in a flash.
And so, the story shifts abruptly toward comedy.
Oh, and *Labyrinth of Refrain* and *Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns* are really fun.
