Chapter 559: Third Time’s the Charm
Third Time’s the Charm
Side: Yuki
I am currently waiting quietly in the hospital waiting room.
No, to be precise, I’m in front of the delivery room.
Right now, the members of Weed have immediately retreated to the hospital in Baide for Milly’s delivery.
The facilities at the hospital here are the bare minimum, and since this is the classified territory of the New Continent, there aren’t even enough staff members—Rurua is practically the one running the show.
In the first place, this hospital was built specifically for the pregnant members: Milly, Tori, Riel, and Kaya.
Since we don’t know how the Gates might affect mother and child, it was necessary to build a medical facility here in Baide.
For other serious injuries, it’s better to receive treatment where Weed’s facilities are fully equipped.
That’s right.
The reason I am at this Baide hospital is because I am the recovery specialist for when things get critical.
We can’t provide enough staff, and the personnel present here are limited.
If that’s the case, it’s only natural that we get roped into the work as well.
Besides, the idea of not doing anything for my own wife is unthinkable.
In the past, during the deliveries of Seraria and Deryu and the others, I was too panicked, got in the way, and ended up being put to sleep.
This time, I’m waiting patiently like this, determined to stay calm and be of help.
Tick, tock, tick, tock...
However, the sound of the clock is strangely loud, and every single second feels incredibly long.
Already, half of my wives have gone to assist with Milly’s delivery, and the other half are waiting with me, ready to provide support at a moment’s notice.
Of course, since this is an emergency, everyone has wrapped up their work and come here.
Ah, initially, the children were being looked after by Kirue and Sasari in the waiting room, but unfortunately, since it was past 8:00 PM, they headed back.
Led by Sakura, the other daughters had said they wanted to wait because their little sister was being born, but they are still children and couldn’t overcome their sleepiness.
It was obvious they would get sick if I pushed them, so I told them I’d contact them as soon as the baby was born and had them return to the house in Baide.
Similarly, Tori, Riel, and Kaya, who are also pregnant, are resting at the house in Baide since their due dates are still further off.
They are also set to come immediately if there is any word.
"Milly. I hope you give birth to the child safely."
"...Nngh. Being able to do nothing but wait is quite frustrating, isn't it?"
"Ugh. It’s more nerve-wracking than I thought."
"I-It’s okay. Milly-onesama will come out safely."
"Viri-onesama, calm down. Milly-onesama will, s-surely give birth to the baby safely."
Cleena, Samantha, Dressa, Vilia, and Hiiro, who are experiencing waiting for a birth for the first time, are stiff as boards.
I suppose I was like that at first, too.
"It’s alright. Because everyone is here."
"That’s right. Everyone is here, so it’ll be fine."
"Since everyone is here, Milly-anesama will definitely be okay."
"Yes. Milly-san will give birth to the baby safely."
Aslin, Labyris, Firia, and Shera are the ones offering those words.
Although these four are among the youngest members, they have already witnessed two births, so their experience surpasses that of Cleena and the others, and they aren’t rattled by the current situation.
Since I’ve been put to sleep twice, perhaps Aslin and the others are, in a sense, more competent.
However, such conversations don’t last long.
The quiet hospital, devoid of other patients, has passed 10:00 PM, and is now wrapped in silence.
Even though Milly and the others are working hard just one wall away, I fall into the sensation of being in a completely different space.
At times like this, a change of pace is needed.
Thinking that, I stand up and call out to everyone.
"Alright, since we’re just sitting here, I’m going to go buy some juice from the vending machine over there. What about the rest of you?"
"O-Oh, that’s right. I’ll come with you."
"Then I will as well."
"Hiiro too!"
Dressa, Vilia, and Hiiro said they would accompany me, while the others just placed their orders and decided to wait there, so we split up.
Well, it’s not like we should all go in a crowd, and it would be a hassle for one person to carry juice for everyone, so I think this was for the best.
*Beep. Clunk, thud...*
"Still, it’s hard to believe we were at the castle in Haiden until just a while ago. Here you go, Vilia."
"Thank you, Dressa. You’re right. It was quite busy in Haiden, so I never thought Milly-onesama’s delivery would overlap with it."
"Come to think of it, I wonder if Haiden is okay. I wonder if Sta-onesama is alright."
The three of us talk about that while drinking our juice.
"As for Haiden, Taiki-kun, Eoid, and Amanda are there in our place, so if anything happens, they’ll contact us. It’ll be fine. Well, that commotion isn’t going to settle down immediately, though."
"The cleanup for that is going to be a pain, isn't it?"
"I don't really understand those things. But I know that meetings are tough."
"Hiiro doesn't really get it either, but if it's okay, then that's fine."
"Well, let’s leave Haiden’s affairs to Haiden; right now, helping with Milly’s delivery is the priority. Alright, I’ve bought juice for everyone, so help me carry it."
" " "Okay!" " "
We returned without any particular issues, but there was no change among those waiting either.
We handed out the juice, drank it, and sat back down.
It hadn’t been that long, so that was only to be expected.
"But Yuki is calm this time. You were terrible before."
"Is that so?"
Suddenly, Labyris brought that up, and Dressa, intrigued, latched onto the topic.
"That’s right. You used to pace back and forth in this hallway, and every minute you’d ask, 'Is it time yet?' over and over."
"Whoa. That’s not like you."
"Is it possible for Onii-sama to be that restless?"
"Hiiro can't even imagine it."
"Nn. It’s unimaginable from the usual Yuki."
"So Yuki-sama has that side to him, too."
The others joined in, and all eyes turned to me.
"It can’t be helped. Men can only wait. Back then, it wasn’t perfectly soundproofed like this, and when I heard the moans from everyone’s labor, I couldn’t just sit still."
"Ah, I guess that would happen if you could hear the sounds."
"And even when everyone told you to calm down, you wouldn’t, so they used magic to put you to sleep, and when you woke up, the delivery was over and you were on your knees, right?"
"I cried at my own incompetence, too."
Before I knew it, I had welcomed the morning twice without witnessing the moment my children were born.
You wouldn’t understand how much regret that holds.
However, this time is what they call the third time’s the charm.
This time, I will witness the birth of my child.
I have to do at least that much.
By the way, I’ve given instructions to Taiki-kun, Steve, and John to suppress the situation if there are any problems in Haiden today, so no matter what happens, we will not be returning to Haiden today.
Even if a country on the New Continent were to tilt or collapse, it’s only natural that my wives are more important than that.
"And, it’s already 11:00 PM."
