第583堀:学院到着 (Part2)

第583堀:学院到着 (Part2)

I had assumed that since there had been no contact until now, she would be placed covertly. To think that my own sister would show up in person...

No, wait? Is it better to greet everyone like this rather than sneaking around?

Since she is my sister, her background is clear. In a sense, is she the perfect candidate?

"So, you are Kagura's sister. Now that you mention it, I have heard that she works in research. You seemed quite proud of her. My apologies, I mean to say that she is clearly talented. I look forward to working with you."

"Not at all, I am still shallow in my learning. The more I study magic, the more I realize how little I truly know. I am very much looking forward to the magic that Yuki-sama and the others use and teach."

"That is the way of the world, isn't it? The more knowledge one gains, the more one realizes how little one knows—that is a famous saying in my country."

"Oh? Even for Yuki-sama, who uses such grand magic that it makes Kagura lose her footing?"

Who lost their footing, you say!?

I did no such ungraceful thing!

Please stop fabricating stories! I was merely... bound up like a sushi roll, that's all!!

...The fact that I can't say that out loud is frustrating. It’s a disgrace either way.

*Grrr...*

"Yes. There is so much I do not know. That is precisely why I never cease my studies, and why I have come to the Haiden Academy. I thought there might be knowledge here that I have yet to acquire."

"Is Yuki-sama a scholar, then?"

"No, not exactly. But whether it is magic, academics, kingship, or politics, one must always continue to refine oneself. We are here today because of the accumulation of the past. And one cannot simply stop there. Don't you agree?"

"Indeed, you are correct. I believe that we should not merely follow in the footsteps of our great predecessors, but find something new and pass it on to future generations—that is what our predecessors would have wished for."

...Why are they still chatting away so pleasantly!?

I’m the one who’s supposed to be taking care of Yuki!!

"Ahem. Sister. Let's save that talk for later. For now, let's proceed with the tour of the academy."

"Ah, you are right. My apologies to everyone."

"Haha, as you can see, she is very passionate about learning. That is why we decided she was the best fit to join me as a recorder for this visit."

No one seemed to frown at my sister's lack of decorum; they all seemed to accept it as just "the way she is."

*Phew.*

"No, it is wonderful. It is rare to find someone who truly understands the meaning of diligent study."

"As Kanna-dono says, our present exists only because of the efforts of our predecessors. That is why it is important not to rely solely on their achievements, but to carve out new paths ourselves."

...For some reason, my sister’s reputation is skyrocketing.

Even though she hasn't really accomplished anything of note yet.

Thinking about such things, we move on to the academy tour.

First, we are shown to the rooms we will be using to drop off our luggage, then we make the rounds: the dormitory building, classrooms, research wing, training grounds, cafeteria, library, staff room, and the principal's office.

"It's quite large. Is there a significant number of students?"

"Yes. Our Haiden Magic Academy is the most advanced in this region, so we have many international students. Well, there were some fools who tried to take advantage of that..."

After the tour, we discuss this while having tea in the principal's office.

"I see. So, you want to dispel the fact that these international students were forcibly detained? But are the detained students safe?"

"Yes. Perhaps they intended to incorporate them into our nation's military strength, so they did not cause them any physical harm... but they did waste a great deal of money..."

"Money?"

"Yes. They spent money to provide them with luxuries to keep them here. And now that the luxury has been cut off..."

"Ah, they are complaining because they can no longer live in luxury?"

"Yes. It isn't just about returning to their previous lifestyle; it seems they were also being provided with research funding..."

"They probably wouldn't get that kind of treatment even if they returned to their own countries... In a sense, they were using effective methods of persuasion."

"Yes. They likely whispered to them that since mages hold the power, siding with Haiden would guarantee them a life of luxury."

Once you know luxury, it’s hard to go back.

Even I think I’d go insane if someone told me I couldn't eat Weed’s cakes anymore.

I mean, so that’s how they were keeping the students detained.

I don't know whether to be envious or what.

"So, that is why these little ones were welcomed as students rather than faculty."

"?" "?" "?"

Aslin, Firia, and Hiiro are the ones tilting their heads.

As Yuki suggested, the three of them ended up as international students from Weed to help improve the academy's image, rather than as teachers.

Well, even if they came as teachers, the students would have accepted it... probably. At least the members who were at Baide would.

But the students who weren't at Baide would surely have rebelled, so that’s why they are officially students.

Of course, supporting Yuki and the others is their priority.

I mean, there’s no way we could put these three in separate classrooms.

If some idiot tried to bully these three, there’s a possibility this entire academy would cease to exist.

These three possess power that transcends common sense, after all.

"I apologize that things are different from what was initially planned."

"No, no. We understand that the original plan was difficult. I agree with minimizing friction."

"Thank you for your understanding."

"Now, regarding the schedule moving forward..."

"Regarding that, Kanna-kun is managing the schedule as a teaching assistant, so..."

"Everyone, I have prepared a schedule, could you please review it?"

The conversation flows smoothly like that, but for some reason, I haven't had a chance to speak.

What is going on?

No, it’s about the academy, so it’s only natural for the principal and my sister, who was appointed as an assistant, to work hard, right?

Isn't it easier for me since I don't have any work?

But why does this feel so unsettling?

The academy life begins at last!!

Will it be a parade of events from here on out!?

Or will Yuki and Taiki’s schemes keep things peaceful!?

Stay tuned for the next installment!!
