### Chapter 614: The Founding of Haiden, Simplified Edition – The "It Was Their Fault All Along" Chapter

**Side: Sota**

"Well, now that I've had some tea and calmed down, please continue."

"Yes, let's do that."

My train of thought had been derailed by the childishness of the water spirit, but my priority now was to convey the events of that time to Yuki and Luna. There were countless things I wanted to ask as well, but that could wait. Me asking questions wouldn't solve anything. It was Yuki and his companions, who were living in the present, who needed my information. The events unfolding now were likely connected to the era I had fought through 500 years ago.

"However, where should I begin explaining from here? I’ve already spoken about my meeting with the people now known as the First Generation, but should I explain the subsequent progression in detail?"

"Hmm. How about we start with a simplified summary for now? If any questions arise, I’ll call a 'time-out' and ask for the details. We don't have enough time to hear everything, and even if you explained it concisely, I don't think I’d be able to grasp it all."

"That sounds reasonable. Even I would struggle to determine what the 'cause' was, and even if asked to tell everything, it is, after all, human memory—there are gaps. I suspect I’ll remember things as you and your friends ask questions."

Whether I spoke unilaterally or Yuki’s group peppered me with questions, neither would lead to a good result. This approach was for the best.

"Then, let us begin with why I am being strangely glorified in this land..."

Yes, I had to explain this clearly. I hadn't done anything particularly special. It was just...

**Side: Sota Kamishiro, Second Son of the Kamishiro Shrine, University Student, Major in Economics**

"How on earth did it come to this...?"

I muttered those words to myself. It made sense, didn't it? I was just an ordinary Japanese university student until a few days ago...

"Sota!! The enemy has entered the valley floor!! Is it now!?"

"Wait, wait!! Fable and Enol haven't passed through yet!! Are you trying to get them caught in it!?"

"But the vanguard of the pursuers has already passed through!? If we don't do something, the villagers will be...!"

"Calm down, Hairen!! Now!!"

"Everyone!! Drop it!!"

"““Ooooooh!!””"

At my signal, Hairen’s suppressed voice rang out, and the surrounding people let out a collective shout of spirit, dropping the rocks. The resulting boulders tumbled into the valley, crushing the grotesque creatures running along the floor. Caught off guard, the vanguard that had already sprinted ahead faltered, their footing becoming unstable.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Fable and Enol turned back, slashing into the remaining enemy vanguard that had been chasing them. The enemies, unable to mount any real resistance, were all defeated.

"We did it!! Amazing, amazing!! You're incredible, Sota!!"

Seeing Hairen express her joy with her whole body, praising me, I couldn't help but say...

"Really, how did it come to this..."

I couldn't help but utter those words. Because, really, why was I, a Japanese university student until just recently...

"Commanding an army!?"

"Eek!? W-what? What's wrong?"

Ignoring Hairen’s surprise, I, Sota Kamishiro, scratched my head frantically. Before I knew it, I was in this "other world," fighting desperately just to survive. If you don't know what I'm talking about? Neither do I. It just happened. I had to do it to live. That was all there was to it, but the situation was utterly nonsensical.

"Hey? Sota? What's the matter?"

That’s right. This situation was all their fault. I had arrived in this world—or this region—met Hairen and the others, and decided to tag along. I didn't know left from right, and since it didn't seem like a dream, I knew I’d surely die out there if I didn't.

I had followed Fable and Enol—who seemed like they knew something—rather than Hairen, but the village we arrived at was in a panic. I learned that a company of the "Demon King’s" advance guard was approaching, and they were desperate to do something about it. I had overheard this and thought, *I don't want to get dragged into a war*, but I didn't know what else to do if I ran away. From what I heard, this "Demon King" person was killing everyone in this land, so I figured I’d be killed regardless.

So, I concluded that since Fable and Enol seemed to know something, my only choice was to survive this ordeal. I didn't think a mere university student could handle a war, so I thought I’d just build some earthen walls or a dry moat. But I was shocked when I saw Fable, Enol, and the villagers preparing for battle. In this day and age, they were ready to fight with outdated weapons—swords, spears, and bows—some of which were rusted, chipped, and warped.

I realized then: *What era of the Warring States is this?*

When I asked how they planned to fight, they said they intended to hole up in the village, using the fences as a defensive wall. They hoped to hide if the enemy didn't notice them, but since there was a road leading right to the village, that was impossible. They were assuming a battle.

The enemy was a well-equipped regular army; we were poorly equipped villagers. It was hopeless. I understood they wanted to protect their village, but hiding behind a fence wasn't a good strategy. In an era with weapons like these, there was no concept of protecting civilians, let alone human rights. Enemy villages, towns, and castles were just targets for plunder. If they were discovered, the village would be attacked as long as villagers remained. Conversely, if they weren't found—since maps in this era were imprecise—small, remote villages were rarely discovered.

So, I proposed we strike first. Honestly, I also had a selfish motive: if we didn't hole up in the village, we could abandon it and flee if we were discovered. I thought it would be better to use guerrilla tactics to whittle them down rather than closing off the road and trapping ourselves.

Fortunately, the village was located on the side of a mountain past the Nossa Plains, and conveniently, the road to the village wound through a valley. I suggested we intercept them there and rain arrows down from above. They adopted the plan, and Enol suggested, "If that's the strategy, wouldn't it be better to use magic to drop rocks?"

It turned out magic existed in this area, and Hairen, who was a mage, prepared numerous large boulders above the valley. Fable, Enol, and the brave villagers took on the task of luring the enemy.

As a result, the plan was a massive success. The enemy company was forced to retreat and was ultimately wiped out.
