Chapter 657: Piling Work
Piling Work
Side: Yuki
Despite everything that happened, our initial activities in the New Continent—where nations like Haiden exist—have come to an end.
It’s not that we’ve cleared up every single disturbance related to the gods, but we judged that if we stuck our noses in any further, it would reflect poorly on the pride of nations like Haiden. We decided it was best to leave the rest to the local countries to handle.
Of course, we’ve agreed to step in if something major happens, but aside from trade and cultural exchange, we likely won’t be intervening proactively anymore.
"Sigh. It’s been about five months since we were summoned. I can’t tell if it’s been a long time or if it flew by."
"If you think about it normally, solving problems on a national scale in just five months is unheard of."
Seraria approached me while saying that.
"Well, that’s true, but for me, I was kidnapped right after the New Year, and before I knew it, it’s already summer. Personally, it feels like it’s been a long time."
For a modern Japanese person, being away from home until the seasons change is something that would never happen unless you were on a long-term business trip. Well, I suppose there are plenty of people in the world who do go on those kinds of trips.
"Besides, even if we call it 'solved,' that’s only from our perspective. There are still problems remaining, and there’s no telling how those will turn out."
"They’ll manage. She made that declaration right in front of me. That princess has nerves of steel. She’s the type who could rebuild a country even if it collapsed."
"Agreed. She’s got a lot of grit. Anyway, putting that aside—everyone was exhausted yesterday, so we disbanded after the meeting, but I haven’t explained the work for Kagura and the others yet. I need to make arrangements for that..."
We banished the Aquenoki who were getting in our way, but naturally, that doesn’t mean it’s over. From here on out, we have to get along with Haiden, Findal, and the Haire Church, and make up for all the time lost since we were summoned.
In other words, we have to treat Kagura, Haiden’s diplomat, with the utmost courtesy to ensure she can properly bridge the gap between Weed and Haiden moving forward.
While talking directly to Princess Carrie or Duke Kamishiro was fine given the circumstances until now, we have to go through Kagura from here on out. Otherwise, there’s no point in having a diplomat, and the Haiden side might start to distrust Weed.
It’s such a troublesome world where you aren’t simply assumed to be on good terms just because you are. Politics, man.
I just want to sleep. No, wait—where did Kagura go?
"Oh, Kagura is fine. Tori, Riel, and the others are handling her..."
"I see. If Tori and Riel are with her, that’s a relief. They seem to get along well."
"Yes. But keep an eye on her, okay? They’re in the middle of discussions right now, so maybe tonight or tomorrow."
"I know. Kagura tends to push herself too hard."
I felt like Seraria was acting a bit strange at first, but it must be because she’s concerned about Kagura’s health.
For now, since Tori and the others are taking care of Kagura, I have to get to work myself. And the reason Seraria is in my office is for work as well.
By the way, my current task is the massive job of compiling the incident report on the Middle-Rank God Faction, starting from our summoning.
You might say, "It’s just a report," but I have to summarize everything: the budget consumed, personnel, material usage, the passage of time, and so on. You can’t tell me that’s not a huge pain.
Well, I had been summarizing it bit by bit every day... so I’d like to say it’s not that bad, but it really is a lot of work.
It’s a difficult challenge, like figuring out how to account for the core that was snatched by the useless goddess and ended up in Haire’s possession.
"So, why did you come, Seraria?"
"It’s about work, of course."
"Right, figured as much."
I asked just in case, but it seems she didn’t come for small talk. What a shame.
"I’m sure you’re aware, but it’s about the Rogali-If international exchange."
"It’s been about three months since the first meeting, right? Let’s see... what were we doing in Haiden at that time?"
"Let me see... I believe that was when we did the 'cleaning' in the Haiden royal capital. Before we went to the academy."
"Ah, that time. The Haiden government was in chaos, so we acted as intermediaries during our free time, didn't we?"
"Don't rewrite your memories so conveniently. We were the ones who proposed the international exchange, and you went missing. When we finally found you, you were busy intervening in a war between countries on the New Continent. The folks from the If Continent were getting pretty edgy because the exchange in Betan was delayed."
"I really realized back then that it was a problem for me to be the only representative. Well, that proved how busy I was, and the If Continent Alliance started their own meetings, didn't they?"
"Yes, the ones about flushing out the subversive elements involved in the raids on the demi-human villages and the runaway Agoust knights."
"Right, right."
I’ve left the If Continent side to Noble, but I’ve heard it’s been quite a struggle. I also often hear Comet complaining about how annoying Hifie’s grumbling is.
"Well, you haven't heard the details of the progress since then, have you?"
"I haven't."
Because I was insanely busy after the international exchange meeting.
If you consider that I was teaching at the academy, investigating the Seven Mysteries, and then capturing and processing the Middle-Rank God Faction during the Haire Church disturbance—all in about a month and a half—you could say it was a high-speed development.
"Well, it’s not like anything changed drastically in less than two months, but they’ve come to understand the utility of Rogali Continent goods through trade via Betan, and the trade plan itself is trending upward as scheduled. Food products, especially sweets and confectioneries, are apparently selling very well to the wealthy."
"They’re still in the middle of border disputes over there, so if they can afford to buy food, it’s probably a welcome development."
"Well, the rest of these documents are about the troubles caused by the sudden formation of the alliance."
"Got it."
"Then make sure you grasp the contents. The people from the If Continent are requesting a meeting because they want to consult with you about future developments."
"That side, huh?"
"Be happy. It’s a situation where a great power is relying on our small nation of Weed. Oh, and be back by dinner. Ria and the others, please handle the rest. I’m going back to my work."
"Yes!"
Seraria said that and quickly returned to her own work.
*Sigh.* Why is the consultation coming to me...?
For now, the New Continent report is urgent, but it’s not something that needs to be finished today or tomorrow, so I’ll leave the detailed calculations to Ria and the others and focus on grasping the current situation of the If Continent.
- Zilba Empire: The border disputes with other great powers have calmed down, but the complaints from the group of small nations in the rear are apparently quite loud.
Well, the old man from Zilba was a "THE King" type of person. His policy was to defeat his enemies, but now that he’s shifted to a policy of making peace and forming an alliance with other great powers, the small nations that followed him are complaining.
However, if he moves to suppress or annihilate the small nations, he’ll fall behind in the international exchange, so it’s a headache for him.
If they want to talk, they’re probably looking to borrow my "evil wisdom" or something similar.
"So, Jessica. Have you heard of any specific problems from that side?"
"No, as the documents state, it seems the small nations are expressing dissatisfaction, or rather, complaints."
"So it’s not a case of them being grateful that the war is over?"
"Originally, His Majesty had united the small nations under the condition that they would win and receive rewards."
