第683堀:動きの早い人々 (Part1)
**Chapter 683: The Swift-Moving People**
**Side: Yuki**
Well, with our policy decided, we returned to the office and drafted letters to the five major powers that represent the Rogari Continent Alliance.
To summarize the contents briefly:
"We would like to hold a meeting at Weed regarding intercontinental exchange. If you could set a schedule, we will come to pick you up."
That was the gist of it.
Naturally, there are specific opening greetings and polite phrases tailored to each nation's customs, but the core content remains the same. It’s a strange irony that the text itself is completely different for each.
It’s incredibly tedious. I really want to standardize this.
Opening a different format for every country each time is a chore.
If even I find this computer work bothersome, I can only imagine how painful it must be for the folks in the five major powers who have to write everything out by hand from scratch without computers or printers.
It makes it clear why they are so eager to accept the standardization that comes with the establishment of our new Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
They must get carpal tunnel syndrome constantly.
While pondering this, I finished the letters, had Seraria, Rurua, and Shera proofread and edit them, and once I got the green light, I sent them off via express delivery.
Actually, we really should have a dedicated proofreading specialist, shouldn't we?
...Ah, well, let's leave that for now.
"Well, the letters are sent, so we should get a response by tomorrow or the day after."
"Indeed. What shall we do in the meantime?"
After sending the letters, we had to consider our upcoming schedule.
"There’s plenty to do, but was there anything that needed immediate attention?"
"Jessica, was there anything?"
Ria asked Jessica, who was standing nearby.
"No, I don't believe there was anything urgent. Ah, though you do need to sign the documents regarding Steve’s business trip."
"Come to think of it, what kind of equipment will Steve be taking as reinforcements for Zilba?"
"Ugh, it’s a hassle, so I should just let him take heavy weapons and tanks."
"No, no. He’s going with standard equipment suited for the local environment—swords, bows, and spears. The usual 'Type 6' gear."
Well, I did have him carry firearms just in case, and I’ve granted him permission to use them.
We call this local operational gear "Type 6."
Walking around with firearms is just too conspicuous, after all.
In this way, regarding equipment and supplies, we already had formats, templates, and regulations in place, so there wasn't any unnecessary paperwork.
Manuals are wonderful things.
In movies, people often find ways to circumvent manuals, but it is precisely because manuals exist that we can act swiftly and accurately.
"Alright, once I finish the urgent paperwork, let's just work normally until closing time today."
"Understood."
It looks like it’s going to be a rare day of pure desk work.
*Scratch, scratch...*
The sound of pens running across paper echoed through the room.
Not having to head out to the field is easy, but the downside of working in a familiar office is that it makes you sleepy.
The rhythmic sound is quite hypnotic...
Steve’s application documents were approved immediately without any issues.
The budget was within range, the armament was per the template—everything was fine. He should be able to handle things in Zilba on his own now.
Once that was done, I moved on to the documents for my role as a strategist and my nominal position as the General of the Monster Army.
Recently, I hadn't been keeping up with the paperwork due to issues in the If Continent and the New Continent, but since the diligent Mino-chan prepares most of these, there weren't any real problems.
There hadn't been any incidents requiring the full deployment of the monster troops, anyway. It’s mostly just been Steve’s unit handling things.
Everywhere else, it’s just reports of increased patrols and the like.
Ah, and I suppose Kirika’s intelligence unit is active in the If Continent?
Well, that’s within the budget we’ve already secured for the intelligence division, and we’ve even increased the funding, so that’s fine.
It’s just that kind of job: checking, signing, and stamping.
It might look easy, but the task of carefully verifying documents that are supposedly already complete is incredibly draining.
If there were a mistake and I signed off on it without noticing, it could become a massive problem.
To give an easy example, if a budget allocation document had an extra zero, that wouldn't just be a problem—it would be a catastrophe.
"You know, I’m starting to think we could just leave the document approvals to Steve or Mino-chan and the others."
"Eh? But Steve and the others are generals, aren't they?"
"Ria, don't take him seriously. Yuki is just complaining."
"The Monster Army exists as an independent organization precisely because Yuki-sama is here."
"Hmm. Besides, if Steve had to do the paperwork Yuki is doing now, there’s a high chance he wouldn't be able to move in the field anymore."
Exactly. As Cleena said, if I made Steve the overseer of the Monster Army, I wouldn't be able to deploy a "handyman" like him so easily.
The same goes for John, Mino-chan, and Surakichi-san.
It’s not that they couldn't do the administrative work I’m doing, but it makes more sense for the four Monster Generals to utilize their unique monster abilities on the front lines.
Besides, if I were to delegate that much, my external standing might just become that of a "kept man" living off his wives.
I can't have that.
Well, I do want to live an easy life. But I still have a shred of male pride.
"It would be a pain if I couldn't use Steve and the others, so I won't do that for now, but I’ll have to think about it in the future."
Weed’s military is special.
It’s divided into a human army and a monster army.
Well, in Earth terms, it’s like having separate Army, Navy, and Air Force branches, but if we keep it like that, the kind of friction seen everywhere is bound to happen.
...The rivalry between the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy is a prime example.
No, it’s a rivalry you see everywhere. Since the races are different, the friction will likely be even more intense.
Something like a "Second Great Demon War," perhaps? It could turn into a battle for survival between humans and monsters.
I have to prevent that at all costs. I want them to resolve things peacefully as intelligent beings, but that’s just a pipe dream.
They’ve had wars on Earth countless times, after all. It’s hard enough for humans to understand humans, let alone humans and monsters.
So, I have to start working on those issues as well...
And so, my work is endless, and the dream of living an easy life supported by my wives is just that—a dream.
While we were chatting and continuing our work, just as it was nearing lunchtime, the door to the room opened.
"Pardon the intrusion."
"Hm? Seraria. What’s wrong?"
It’s quite rare for Seraria to come to my office while she’s busy acting as Queen.
Usually, we meet in the conference room. It’s a waste of time otherwise. Every second is precious when you’re a Queen or a military overseer.
Ha, screw that. Black company work.
As I was thinking that, Seraria handed me a letter.
"A letter from... well, from the King of Roschur."
"Huh? You already got a reply?"
"That’s right."
How on earth did they reply so quickly? I thought to myself, but since Seraria had brought it herself, it couldn't be a fake. I took the letter and read it...
"Uh, let's see... 'We can hold the meeting as early as tomorrow'? What is this about?"
"Exactly what it says."
"No, what about their own schedule?"
