落とし穴119堀:真実とピンチと壁のぼり (Part2)
"What kind of logic is that?! And you, you're coming with me! You’re the one who told the people at the abandoned school about Mayohiga and gave them their orders, aren't you?"
"No way. I was forced to make a roster all night yesterday, and I'm sleepy."
"Don't mess with me!"
And so, I ended up taking Luna with me to the scene, but...
"Yes? They won't listen to you?"
"I am terribly sorry! The ones operating the abandoned school and Mayohiga from within say they will only follow the orders of Lady Luna..."
"In other words, Boss, it seems they've split into the 'Boss Faction' and the 'Goddess Faction'."
That’s how it was. Because of that, even if I spoke to Warrant Officer Yamamoto, Kagura and the others wouldn't come out.
"But, Warrant Officer Yamamoto is able to walk out in the daylight just fine, isn't she?"
"No, I was surprised as well. I thought it impossible for a ghost to appear while the sun was up, but it seems it is unexpectedly possible."
"Well, obviously. I’m the one who brought her here, so I made sure she could do at least that much."
The useless goddess stated that with full confidence.
"Shut up. You’re the reason this has become such a huge commotion, so go and bring Kagura and the others back."
"Ehh. That would be treating the children who are working hard for my sake inside as if they were nothing, wouldn't it?"
"No, this was your blunder to begin with, wasn't it? Don't go doing whatever you want on someone else's land."
As I was talking to her, trying to make the useless goddess take responsibility...
*Clang!!*
The sound echoed through the area. I wondered where it came from...
"It’s from above, Boss."
"Above?"
When Steve said that, I looked up. It seemed Kagura and the others were being cornered by ghosts on the rooftop, and the sound was them hitting the fence.
"Hey. Useless goddess, it's Mayohiga, so why are you cornering them on the roof?"
"Ehh, well, Mayohiga isn't just about good things, you know. It's a classic trope in stories that people who do bad things end up suffering, right?"
"No, no, there's no way Kagura and the others would do anything bad. Even if they did something wrong, it would be inside that abandoned school, right? Isn't that going too far?"
"Ah, that part is fine. Even if I say they suffer, I just have it set so that anyone who faints gets tossed outside. Still, the four of them are surprisingly tough. I didn't think they'd hold out without fainting. I honestly thought they'd run out of steam while being chased. Wow, these shrine maidens aren't half bad."
"Before you praise them, hurry up and save them!!"
"Eh? You want me to go out there? Aren't you being a bit too oblivious to the atmosphere?"
"What are you saying..."
"Listen carefully. Who are they actually calling out to for help?"
"Yes?"
When she said that, I focused my attention on Kagura and the others...
"Yuki, Yuki, help me..."
"Yuki-sensei... please save Micos-chan and the others..."
"Lord Hairen, please, protect us!!"
"Eoid, Amanda..."
There were only two people being requested.
"I mean, there isn't a single request for Luna."
"Shut up!! More importantly, after being called out like that, it would be completely tone-deaf for me to go and save them, wouldn't it?! Just go already!"
"Ugh, fine, fine. I get it. Steve, I'm going."
"Yes, sir. I'll provide backup, so give it your all."
"I am terribly sorry for causing you such trouble!!"
"No, Warrant Officer Yamamoto, you did nothing wrong. The one at fault is that useless goddess over there."
I said that and, instead of entering through the school entrance, I climbed the drainpipe directly to the rooftop. There was no way I’d make it in time if I took the long way around.
It looked ragged and dangerous, but because Luna was doing something strange to it, it was incredibly sturdy. So, I was able to climb the pipe without issue.
It is definitely not the case that I have ever done something like this when I was a student... or maybe I have.
Well, don't kids climb things like monkeys to get to high places?
Anyway, let's leave those memories aside...
"Ugh, Yuki, Yuki..."
"Yuki-senseeei!!"
"I have no choice but to jump... but in this area, our bodies are..."
"I can't take it anymore..."
Yeah. They were at their limit.
I had just finished climbing the wall.
"Yes, yes. You called, and I have arrived... well, that's not quite right. Anyway, I'm here."
With that, I appeared, answering the pleas of Kagura and the others.
The ones cornering them were women with no eyes, just black, hollow pits.
Was someone like that in the interviews yesterday?
I tilted my head, wondering about that.
When I was a kid, I used to climb up to rooftops using drainpipes, didn't I?
I did that a lot.
It felt just like that.
And the useless goddess was her usual self.
But for Kagura and Micos...
