第786堀:おにもつはこび (Part2)
I turned my gaze toward the wagons my brothers were pulling, just as Labyris had, and saw soldiers swarming them, much like they were with Princess Carrie’s group.
"They say they can't possibly let us help them any further," Milly said with a shrug.
"What does that mean?"
"I don't really know. None of them have the strength to pull them, though."
The soldiers weren't using magical body reinforcement. It was physically impossible for them to pull those wagons. I couldn't understand why they were trying so hard. It would be much smarter to just bring some horses to do the work. Or rather, normally, you’d need horses to pull them in the first place.
As I wondered about this, Deryu explained it to me.
"They likely can't afford to pile on any more blunders. They want the result of having 'helped' by pulling the wagons themselves."
"Besides," she added, "if it were reported to King Haiden that the reason Yuki, Princess Stasia, and Bishop Enora had to pull the wagons themselves was because those soldiers refused to help, their future promotions and rewards would be hopeless."
"I feel like it's a bit late for that, considering everything they've done. And honestly, they can't even pull them, so it’s just going to take longer. Is that alright with you, Brother?"
"That’s not for me to decide. Oh, looks like Princess Carrie and the others are coming over."
Just as my brother said, Princess Carrie and her group were walking toward us.
"What will you do now? Leave it to the Count who offered to cooperate?"
"Oh, heavens, no. There are many nobles who have been helping us from the start, so we shall support them. The Count has taken responsibility for transporting the cargo currently here."
Princess Carrie smiled as she said that.
"The cargo *currently* here, at least."
"Indeed. After everything that has happened, there is no way we could entrust everything to them. We intend to return to where the supplies are being prepared and begin transporting them ourselves once more. Will you all be taking a rest?"
"We're still full of energy, so we'll help! Right, Firia-chan?"
"Aslin is right! This much is a piece of cake."
We hadn't been trained to collapse from something like this.
"I see. So you’re going to overtake the Count and his men from behind?"
"My, whatever do you mean? But, if they insist on transporting things at such a leisurely pace, we might just pass them along the way. It’s always better to have the preparations finished as soon as possible, isn't it?"
"Well, that’s true. Can't be helped if you end up passing them."
"Indeed. It truly can't be helped."
My brother and Princess Carrie laughed. The two of them seemed to be having quite a bit of fun.
"We’re the ones who have to write the reports, though..."
"Oh, give it up, Mikos-chan. It’s better to hit them hard right here. Kagura."
"I agree. I think Mikos-senpai is right. Kagura-senpai, the Princess isn't doing anything reckless, so let's give it our all."
Kagura and the others, who had been worried, seemed to have made up their minds. That’s right—there’s no need to show mercy to people who are being mean!
"Haa, you're right. It’s not the Princess’s fault; it’s the fault of the Counts who won't cooperate! We’ll do this thoroughly!"
"That's right! Mikos-chan won't hold back either!"
"But, we're only able to pull these wagons like this thanks to Yuki-sama and the others," Solo said, sounding unsure of herself. We both rushed over to her.
"It’s okay. The reason Brother is lending you tools and power is because you worked so hard, Solo-onee-sama."
"That’s right. He wouldn't lend a hand to someone who relies on him for every single thing. He’s helping because you worked hard and because you *are* working hard. So, that magic tool is definitely a testament to your own strength."
As we said that, Labyris and the others joined in.
"Exactly. If you call that 'borrowed,' then we’re the same."
"Indeed. You could say we’ve received everything we have to stand here today from Yuki-san."
They were telling Kagura and the others that they were working hard. Finally, even Solo, who had been the most dejected, perked up.
"You're right. We’ve worked hard, too. Let’s do it! Let’s go for it!"
"Yeah!"
And so, Firia and the others hurried back, grabbed the supplies, and overtook the spiteful ones to begin preparing the encampment site.
What kind of adult is so inferior that they lose to children at moving cargo?
In this way, while breaking the spirits and standing of their enemies, Firia and the others awaited the arrival of the Sea-Cypher Kingdom.
Also, there might be a year-end special coming up soon. Please be aware that the main story will be on hiatus during that time. If there is anything you would like to see, please let me know.
