第812堀:田舎発展物語 急 (Part2)
"Not at all. First impressions are everything, after all. We’ll need help with the land reclamation eventually, so if it’s not too much trouble, I’d like to request some time to gather the villagers and introduce ourselves. You see, our presence might be a bit... stimulating for the locals."
Yuki gestured toward the cluster of Weed’s modular buildings sprawling in the background.
He’s clearly planning to charm them into submission while he’s at it. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the fact that I immediately start looking for ulterior motives whenever Yuki says something like this makes me wonder: have I finally developed the instincts of a true wife, or have I just become a cynical spouse who doubts her own husband? I’m still not sure.
As I pondered this, the conversation moved forward.
"I see. Indeed, an explanation for the residents is necessary. Would you mind if we took a little time to prepare?"
"Of course. How about we hold the introduction at the spot where the Baron usually meets with the residents, and then invite them over here afterward?"
"Yes, that would be ideal. Though, it will take some time to organize. If we announce it now, it would likely be tomorrow..."
"That’s fine. It actually works better for us as well; it gives us time to finish our own preparations."
And so, it was decided that tomorrow, we would hold a formal greeting for the residents of the Jama territory, which would also serve as an introduction to Weed.
Naturally, that meant we had our work cut out for us.
"Right then, time to haul everything in. But first, a structural inspection. Everyone, lend a hand."
"Honestly, do you really think this many people can prepare a venue? Even if it is the countryside, there are over a hundred of them, you know? What are you planning?"
"Well, the venue for a festival like this is already set up. As for the labor, John, Britt."
"“Yes, sir!”"
At that call, I turned to see Orcs and Goblins swarming out from the facility.
I see...
"I understand. You had already summoned General John and his men, hadn't you, my Lord?"
"In that case, we won't be lacking in manpower."
"Exactly. As for the venue setup and the catering, I’ll leave that to Kirue and Sasari. If you need anything, just let me know—I’ll help out too."
"Understood. Thank you. However, it’s important to know the exact numbers. Lord Micos, do you happen to know the population of the Jama territory?"
"Ah, for that, ask Britt."
"Right. The population of the Jama territory is roughly five hundred. Given that there are many elderly residents, the ones likely to show up for an announcement like this will be the younger demographic, so I’d estimate around four hundred and fifty."
Hmm. More than I expected. If there were just a few more, it would be large enough to be called a town. Ah, I suppose because they don't have monsters here, their survival rate is higher. That’s why this number is considered standard. I’m envious. Then again, perhaps that means they lack the strength to defend against monster threats. Truly, there is such a thing as being *too* peaceful.
As I was lost in thought, everyone had already begun to move.
"What about you, Deryu?"
"When Kirue and the others are away, I am Yuki’s guard. Ria gave me strict instructions, after all."
Specifically, never to leave his side. After all, he has a history of being summoned the moment I take my eyes off him.
"Right, fair enough. Well, since Britt and his crew are handling the military facilities, let’s go check the standard amenities we’ve prepared. I’m glad you’re here, Deryu."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Well, we’re borrowing their land, so I wanted to make sure we could get along with the locals—and the garrison troops—by setting up a Super Public Bath."
"What!?"
I just heard something truly ominous!
"Deryu, you’ve done everything from scrubbing the baths to adjusting the boilers at the Super Public Bath, haven't you?"
"D-don't tell me..."
"Time for an equipment inspection."
"I-I won't do it!! That work is grueling!!"
It is truly no small feat. Scrubbing the baths is one thing, but washing the used towels and all the other endless chores—it’s back-breaking work!
"Come now, it’s to help us get along with the people of the Jama territory. Besides, do you want to show Kagura and the others such a pathetic side of yourself?"
"Ngh..."
It’s true; if I run away from assigned tasks, Kagura and the others might lose faith in my combat instruction... But still... that mountain of labor...
"Don't worry. This time, you have plenty of help right in front of you."
"Hm? Oh!!"
That’s right, I have Kagura and the others! And Britt’s men, too!!
"““?””"
"All units, retreat!! Run to the military facility, double-time!"
Kagura and the others seemed confused, but that rascal Britt chose to flee immediately!
"You lot! You cannot escape the Demon Lord!!"
And so, I dragged my subordinates along to begin the preparations.
"I mean, it’s amazing, right? A Super Public Bath just appeared in my hometown!"
"I’m so jealous."
"Indeed."
Micos and the others were chatting away so nonchalantly, but they have no idea how difficult it is to maintain such a place! I thought to myself while working.
I suppose I’m in the wrong for thinking it’s strange that the Goblins didn't hesitate to flee, even though they can't escape the Demon Lord? Well, that’s how it goes—a massive shopping mall appearing in the middle of the countryside to kickstart the local economy!
