The Dragonkin have been emitting an aura of intimidation for their own safety, which seems to have thrown the local ecosystem into disarray. However, I can’t exactly ask them to stop now. There’s no telling what kind of repercussions that might have.
"Well, if Lord Gaul and his kin were to stop their intimidation in the future, it’s a long way from the foothills, but the Dragon Town would likely be overrun and devastated by hordes of monsters."
"…That sounds plausible, and I hate it. *Sigh*…"
I have to consider those kinds of long-term consequences. A survey of the magical energy in that area will be absolutely essential in the future.
"Well, never mind that for now. You focus on the travel arrangements. I’ll handle the preparations on this end."
"Understood. For now, the plan is for five people, including Lord Gaul, to visit Weed, so please proceed with that in mind. I’ll make sure to inquire about their dietary needs and any taboos in the morning."
"Got it. Contact me again tomorrow."
With the reports finished, I would normally be heading to bed, but…
"Ria, Deryu, Vilia, Dressa, Hiiro—you heard me. The Dragonkin have decided to participate in the Intercontinental Exchange Conference, which has created a mountain of work for us. First, I need Ria and Deryu to prepare the documents for Seraria and the others by tomorrow morning."
"Um, when you say reports, you mean what you were just discussing with Zargis, right?"
"Ria’s right. If you want us to write a report, won’t there be documents coming from Zargis anyway?"
"No, I need you to compile a summary of what we just discussed. Zargis isn't in a position to write a report right now."
"Ah…"
Right. You might think we could just wait for the report from Zargis, but he isn't exactly in a place where he can sit down and write one, and usually, these things are compiled after returning home. But this time, we can't afford to wait; we have to prepare for the conference ourselves.
"Alright, Vilia, Dressa, and Hiiro, I need you to contact Shi-chan and ask about that sea monster Gaul mentioned—the one that even preys on dragons. If something like that exists, it will be a major threat to our upcoming maritime survey. Besides, the ocean is Dressa’s specialty."
As I suspected, the sea is apparently such a treacherous, lawless zone that even dragons want to avoid it. Seriously, what kind of size are we talking about if it tries to hunt dragons? The ocean is terrifying.
"Ah, I remember him mentioning that. Understood."
"By the way, what about Comet, who was following the mountain climbing group?"
"Oh, that’s right. What’s Comet-onee doing?"
"Comet is scheduled to handle the maintenance of the dungeon Steve and the others created, as well as monitor the Dragon Mountain. She’s sleeping right now."
Comet has to pull the late-night monitoring shift, so she’s taking a nap. In the meantime, the goblins are handling the monitoring room. Comet is the lead, after all, but she can’t be away from it for long. She’s also responsible for monitoring and measuring the magical energy.
"So, we know what we’re doing, but what about you, Yuki?"
"I have to draft the seating arrangements for the conference and such, which Seraria and the others brought up."
"Ah…"
The most tedious and difficult task of them all. You have to balance everyone’s pride and standing—it’s a real headache. I’ll have to draft a proposal and consult with Seraria and the others. Tomorrow is going to be a long day… and on top of that, we have the rehearsal for the brides who are getting married.
"Hey. Can we just put this off and go to sleep?"
"Yuki-san. Everyone will definitely be angry with you."
"Indeed. Delaying things here will surely invite their wrath."
"I know it’s tough, but do your best. We’re all in the same boat. I’ll have it finished by the time we do the dress fitting."
"Exactly! Leave it to me, Brother!"
"Hiiro will do her best!"
It seems there is no escape for me. If that’s the case, I’d better finish this quickly so I can carve out some time to rest!
In this world, just because you achieve a massive success doesn't mean everyone is happy. Well, looking at the big picture, it’s certainly something to celebrate, but for some, it just means their workload explodes, just like it did for Yuki and his team.
To put it in terms familiar to Japan: if an obscure school suddenly makes it to Koshien, how are they going to pay for the travel expenses? Problems like that start to arise. Behind the scenes of public celebration, there are always people working desperately to ensure that joy doesn't go to waste.
And so, that is how the world turns.
