第1154堀:世界の醜い所 (Part2)

第1154堀:世界の醜い所 (Part2)

The abdomen was riddled with stab wounds. Her nose had been severed, her left eye was gone, and her right eye was so swollen that it was impossible to tell if the eyeball remained at all. To put it bluntly, the torture she had endured was so horrific that it was a miracle she was still breathing.

"Hang in there. Just a little longer, a real healer is coming soon, I promise!"

The female adventurer tending to the wounded girl spoke with desperate urgency, clinging to the hope that she could keep the life flickering within a body that barely seemed to be drawing breath. At this point, keeping her alive might almost be considered a form of torture in itself... yet, the fact that they had brought her all the way to Weed suggested they believed she could be saved once she arrived.

"Step aside. Let me take over."

"Eh? Ah, Yuki-sama!? And Dressa-chan and the others too!"

Oh, it seems she is an adventurer who knows me.

"Please! I can't heal her—I’ve done everything I could just to keep her hanging on..."

"Leave it to us. When it’s my Yuki, one shot is all it takes. You know that, right?"

"Yes. I know. Please, I beg you!"

"Got it."

The situation was so precarious that the slightest interruption to the healing magic would likely result in immediate death. It was clear this adventurer had studied human anatomy thoroughly, but there was no time for pleasantries. Every second, every fraction of a second, was a matter of life and death.

I had to do this all at once. Considering the foreign objects and toxins likely present in her system, I needed to use maximum output.

*Whoosh.*

Honestly, why does a gust of wind always kick up when I use high-output magic? It’s a strange phenomenon, but the prevailing theory is that the surge of magical power inevitably triggers a natural reaction. Regardless, there was no need to shout out the name of the spell to activate it.

A faint, pale green light—a remnant of the power I still possess—descended upon the wounded girl. As it washed over her, missing limbs sprouted anew, broken arms and fingers knit back together, and even her hair began to regrow.

Honestly, I never quite understand what "Extra Heal" is actually doing. The prevailing theory is that it rewinds time, but if that were the case, the subject should revert to their physical state before the injuries or illnesses occurred—which would imply their memories should regress as well, yet that never happens.

While I was lost in thought, the healing concluded. What remained was no longer a broken mess, but a young girl, fully restored, with all her limbs intact. However, perhaps because of the sheer trauma she had endured, she showed no reaction. Her chest rose and fell with steady breaths, confirming she was alive, but her mental state was a void. It would be reckless to try and speak to her just yet.

*Flap.*

I pulled a cloak from my item box and draped it over her.

"Labyris, take her to the hospital. Tell Rurua and the others to wait there. And have Lilishe join us for counseling."

"Understood. I’ll make the arrangements. I never doubted that Yuki would make a mistake in the healing."

"Thanks. You’re a lifesaver."

Labyris, as reliable as ever. Still, I couldn't ignore the need for a basic physical check. I reached out to take her wrist to check her pulse. If she resisted, I’d leave it to the female adventurer or Aslin, but she was too far gone to even react. She let me take her arm without a sound.

"Hmm. A little faster than normal."

"I suppose that’s to be expected, given the state she was in."

"True enough. Take her to the hospital with the utmost care. I’ll stay here to handle the questioning..."

As I turned to leave, she suddenly gripped my arm. She held on with a strength that belied her condition, her entire body trembling violently.

*Chattering teeth...*

Oh, that’s a severe reaction.

"Asu, and you adventurers—you may have already been asked this, but I want to hear the details directly from you. Please stay in Weed for the next two or three days. Asu, you have your shop, so that’s fine, but for the adventurers, I’ll have lodging prepared for you. Can you wait there?"

"Yes!" "Yes!" "Yes!"

"Understood. I have some matters to process regarding this incident, so I will be at the shop."

With that, I scooped the girl up into my arms and headed toward the hospital. Her gaze remained unfocused, and she dug her nails into my arm, gripping me so tightly that blood began to seep through.

...It seems getting the truth out of her is going to be impossible for now. For the moment, the most important thing is to help her find some semblance of calm.
