第1158堀:迷ったときは…… (Part2)

"Wait a moment. Officially, I’m supposed to be nothing more than an accessory to Seraria, so how does Guia know so much? And officially, it’s Elju who is credited with controlling this dungeon..."

"Oh, that is an open secret, I’m afraid. On the surface, Yuki-sama, you are merely the husband who connects Seraria-sama and the others."

"Ah, right. So, it’s leaked out, then?"

"Yes. Though, very few people actually know the truth. Above all, the numerous achievements were indeed established by your wives, so very few are aware of Yuki-sama’s own direct involvement."

"Do you think the general public will start saying things like that in the future?"

"Haha, that won't happen. We wouldn't allow it. Isn't that right, Shopkeeper?"

"Indeed. Yuki-sama’s affairs are a top-secret matter. If anything, even if the truth were told, few would believe it. After all, seeing you running a food stall in the park or meeting with people like us so casually, most would assume you aren't anyone of great significance."

"I see."

I’d like to say that’s a relief, but I’m sure there are those who have already arrived at the truth. No, it’s too late for that now. My existence is already known to the great powers; it’s only natural that the general public would eventually catch on, too.

"Well, that can be handled as it comes. More importantly, will you introduce me to those slaves?"

"Certainly. Here are the slaves you requested. I have brought you perfectly ordinary ones."

"Thanks. Though, when you say 'not ordinary,' do you mean injured ones or something?"

"Goodness, no. A slave in such a state would be bad for business. We have seen to their proper care and treatment."

"Fair enough. Sorry for doubting you."

"Not at all. Given what happened yesterday, your caution is only natural. Now, starting from the right..."

As Guia called their names, the slave women stepped forward, bowing with tense, nervous expressions.

*Sigh.* I’ve explained my situation, but having it all brushed aside feels sad in a different sort of way. Still, from an outsider’s perspective, I’m just a guy who keeps swapping out women.

Regardless, the introductions were made. They even expressed their own enthusiasm, declaring they would do their best. It’s only natural they’d be motivated—after all, I am the Prince Consort of this nation, and being bought by me is considered a fortunate turn of events. But honestly, it just doesn't click for me.

"Are you dissatisfied?"

The moment Guia asked, the slave girls all wore identical, crestfallen expressions. It was a bit too blatant, but to react with nothing would be a failure of character. I’m the type who prefers straightforward, soft-hearted people anyway.

"No, no, I’m not dissatisfied with them. They have the drive. I’m sure if I give them work, they’ll put in the effort. But, as I’m sure you’ve heard, what I’m looking for is someone to act as a proxy for me when dealing with the general public."

"Yes, we have been informed of that. That is precisely why we brought them."

"Wait, you’ve already discussed that part?"

"Yes!" the three of them chimed in unison.

"The work you require, Yuki-sama, seems likely to sway the fate of this nation. As a merchant guild, we could hardly present you with slaves who lacked the necessary resolve."

"When you put it that way, I suppose you’re right."

So, these girls are the 'chosen ones.' I suppose a slave trader couldn't very well bring me anyone without the proper mental fortitude once they knew my objectives.

I looked at them. While they weren't quite on the level of my wives, their features and figures were quite refined. I’m sure that was part of the selection process, too.

...Why is it that even though I came here to choose, my heart just isn't in it? Maybe I never really had a romanticized view of slavery. Or maybe it’s just because of everything that happened yesterday. Still, I can’t just stand here forever.

"Alright. 'See it done, tell them how, let them do it, and praise them, or else people will not move.' That’s the way of it."

"?"

The slave girls tilted their heads in unison, but Labyris and the others let out dry chuckles.

"My, you’ve suddenly become quite decisive. What brought that on?"

"There’s no reason to narrow it down to one. People are meant to combine their strengths. Guia has vetted these three, and they’ve steeled their resolve. So, I’ll take all of them. After all, the work is demanding. If I pick just one and she fails, that’s a waste. Let the three of them support each other."

"Ehh!?"

"I see. That is a very sensible way of thinking. Indeed, there is no way a single person could handle all of Yuki-sama’s duties alone."

"Exactly. Oh, and you don't have to worry about being my bedmates or anything. Just do your jobs and find yourselves good men. That’s perfectly fine."

"Ehh—!?"

The slaves were even more shocked than before. Honestly, that’s just how slaves in Weed are.

Well, while I’m at it, I’ve been thinking the Monster Army needs more human personnel anyway. I’ll use this as an opportunity to bolster my own workload and provide some support elsewhere, too. There’s no need to limit myself to one—I’ll just buy them all and put them to work!

Well, I suppose that’s the mindset of the wealthy. You can’t just buy every PC that catches your eye! So, everyone, don't try this at home. Make sure you vet your choices carefully.
