Still, the shots missed.
"Hey, you're a terrible shot!"
"Wait for meee!"
"Like I'd ever wait for you!"
But if this kept up, I’d get hit and my second round would be over. That was the one thing I had to avoid. After all, I’d declared to Yuki that he should wash his neck and wait for me. I couldn't afford to lose in a place like this.
There were other buildings nearby, so I decided to dive into one of them and hunt for a weapon. With that resolved, I stopped looking back and threw myself into the nearest house.
*Man, I’m glad Wazfi is such a lousy shot.*
Wait, actually...
"Are you two okay? I just ran into Wazfi, what about you guys...?"
"Oh? We're fine here. And are you saying you're the only one who found Wazfi?"
"That is plausible. We haven't encountered Princess Fiora or Nilea either. Since we can choose our own individual spawn points, it's possible Wazfi came out here alone to scavenge for gear. If so, we should provide support."
"Thanks! I’ve slipped out of the house I was in and moved to another one nearby, so keep an eye out!"
Good. Wazfi didn't have any backup. If that was the case, we could corner him and—

Huh!? The sound of gunfire, and it was close!
"This is Lilishe. I found Fiora-chan and I'm laying down some suppressive fire. Turns out she was surprisingly close. Thanks to that, my position is blown, though."
"This is Kirika. I haven't encountered Nilea, but we should proceed under the assumption that she is nearby."
So, it wasn't that she was close, but that she’d just happened to wander into a different house than the one we were in. That meant there was a chance I could run into someone in the house I’d just entered, too.
But that didn't seem likely. After all, there was an assault rifle lying right there on the floor, completely untouched.
"Yes! Jackpot!"
I grabbed the assault rifle. I confirmed it had a magazine loaded and was ready to fire, then immediately took aim.
*Bang!*
"Cornered—"
*Rat-tat-tat!*
I pulled the trigger, aiming at Wazfi as he walked in while saying his line. It was easy enough when you knew exactly where he was.
"Eh?"
*Hahaha.* While that idiot Wazfi was busy being surprised that I had a gun, I pulled the trigger again.
*Tat-tan.*
I didn't want to waste too much ammo, but I had to make sure I finished him off here. With that, Wazfi’s body finally flickered and vanished. I guess my accuracy wasn't that great either.
"Phew. This is Hairen. I’ve taken down Wazfi."
"Lilishe here. Fiora-chan seems to have retreated. I wonder if it’s because Wazfi-chan got taken out?"
"That would be my guess. Since it was a chance encounter, both sides were poorly equipped. She likely judged that it was better to retreat and regroup than to force a fight with us, especially since they’ve lost a member and their combat strength has dropped. That said, Lady Hairen, please be sure not to pursue."
"I know, I know. I’ve taken some hits myself. Man, the only gear Wazfi dropped was a handgun, and it only had two rounds left..."
Well, he didn't have much time to scavenge in that situation, did he? Ugh, my energy gauge is down to about half. Why did just taking a few punches drain it that much?
"I’m going to keep scavenging for items."
"Understood. We’ll keep collecting gear on our end, too."
"Understood. However, I suggest we move as quickly as possible. There’s no telling when other teams might show up after hearing that gunfire."
She was right. I couldn't handle a string of consecutive battles like this.
"If you find any recovery items, toss one my way."
"Got it. Don't push yourself too hard, okay?"
"Yes. If we find any, we will prioritize sending them to you."
Now then, let’s pull ourselves together, collect some gear, and get back to aiming for 'Yuki’s neck'!!
Hairen and the rest of the goddess group seem to be having a great time. And since Wazfi is a "charge-in-headfirst" type, he’s quite easy to take down.
