第1193堀:二回戦その2 (Part2)

第1193堀:二回戦その2 (Part2)

If this were a game, crawling would be the only option, but here, it’s arguably the best way to stay hidden—especially for someone of my stature. Still, it’s not all convenience.

"But if our movement is this sluggish, we're sitting ducks if we get sniped," Steve noted.

"You're right. It’d be tough to run," I replied.

"Our movement speed is dropping quite a bit, after all," Mino-chan added.

It’s true—plowing through grass and wheat takes a surprising amount of time. Unlike a game character who can stroll through such terrain as if it were an empty field, we don't have that luxury. It’s not just a place to hide; it’s a hindrance.

"How’s the perimeter? I can’t see a thing from down here," I said. Being short, the grass was blocking my entire field of vision.

"No signs of enemies on this side," Steve said.

"Same here. Besides, I’ve been hunched over the whole time, so it’s getting a bit rough," Mino-chan grumbled.

Ah, right. Mino-chan is tall, so he’s been walking bent at the waist this entire time.

"Well, at least there’s no immediate danger, which is a relief. Just hang in there a little longer, Mino-chan."

"Understood."

"This confirms that moving through grasslands or fields is a disadvantage for us. We’ll need to rethink our routes for the future."

While we were talking, we finally cleared the field and reached the road.

"This is easier to walk on, but..."

"It’s no good—there’s nowhere to hide."

"Oh, look at that, you two."

Mino-chan, sharp-eyed as ever, pointed something out. I looked in the direction he indicated...

"Oh, a car."

"Is it operational?"

"We’ve got time, let’s check it out."

"Good idea. Having wheels is always a plus."

"Especially for us."

"And it’ll serve as cover, too," Mino-chan added.

He was right. Given our current situation, having a vehicle for transport would be a godsend. We approached the car, keeping a wary eye out for traps, and began our inspection.

"Oh, the keys are still in the ignition."

"Does it start?"

"Hold on a second..." John turned the key.

*Vroom...*

The engine roared to life.

"Oh, she’s still kicking."

"Alright, let’s move out. Steve, take the passenger seat. Mino-chan, you’re in the back."

"Understood."

With the car secured, we reached the vicinity of the two houses we were targeting in no time, but...

"You two, I’m going to circle the perimeter. Keep your eyes peeled."

"Leave it to me."

"Consider it done."

Since we were in a car, the engine noise would give away our approach. We drove around the two houses, scanning for any signs of life.

"Doors and windows are all shut," Mino-chan reported.

"Yeah, no silhouettes inside either."

"So, the odds of someone being here are low. They haven't taken a single shot at us."

"You never know. They might start firing the moment we stop."

"In that case, we should park in a spot with minimal lines of sight," Steve suggested.

"That would be the house on the grassland side," John said, slowly steering the car toward the side of the house with the fewest windows.

If the enemy were to open fire, their positions would be limited—it was the perfect opportunity. We stayed low, ready to return fire, while John kept the car ready to accelerate. If we were caught in a dead stop, it would take too long to get moving again.

As it turned out, our caution was unnecessary; there was no incoming fire.

"Looks like there were no enemies."

"That’s a relief. The map is going to shrink soon, so let’s get what we need and get out of here."

"Agreed."

"Alright, let’s start scavenging. John, you watch the house from the car. Mino-chan and I will head to the house in the back."

"Understood."

We were hoping to use this place as a base, but things rarely go according to plan in these situations. I was thinking pessimistically as we stepped inside, when...

"No way."

"Whoa. What do we do now?"

*What is it? Did something happen?*

"Oh, nothing—it’s just that our luck is almost too good."

"Yeah. We found a sniper rifle."

*Oh, nice. We can pick them off from a distance now. I guess we’ve got the gear we need. Oh, and I found a suppressor for the sniper rifle over here, too.*

Ah, this is a total death flag, isn't it?

Well, let’s see if we can actually pull off a win.

Trying this in reality, you realize just how difficult grasslands and wheat fields really are. It really goes to show that PUBG’s convenience is purely a product of it being a third-person shooter.
