第1203堀:告げるという責任 (Part2)

"It seems so. ...Sigh. Now I understand why Seraria insisted that I provide support. I had no idea he had such a difficult personality."

"I don't really see it that way, though. Besides, you know better than anyone how much Yuki cherishes his wives, don't you? And the same goes for Fiora. He wouldn't bring her along just to shift the responsibility onto her."

I understand perfectly well that Yuki-sama is keeping his promise to cherish me, but that alone will not suffice. This must be what Seraria meant when she asked me to "please" handle this.

"Yuki-sama, please do not concern yourself. Your feelings have been conveyed to me quite clearly. However, even so, I must fulfill my promise to Popuri-dono and reveal the truth to Havia-dono."

Yes, I state it clearly: I have no intention of backing down. If I do not do this, the kind-hearted Yuki-sama will never even allow me to fulfill my role. And if that were the case, there would be no point in me being here at all.

I have resolved to be a wife to Yuki-sama, to whom I owe so much, and to support him by his side. If I cannot prove that I am more than just a weak woman seeking help, I would be a laughingstock to the other wives, starting with Seraria.

No, that is wrong. They would never do such a thing. I understood that well enough during our recent social gathering. They are not the type of people who find joy in belittling their companions. If they were, they would surely be the first to worry and offer their support. It is for the sake of such kind friends that I must do this.

As I stare intently at Yuki-sama, pouring all those feelings into my gaze...

"...Sigh. Fine, I understand. I will leave it to Fiora to tell Havia the truth. But not right this second. We need to secure the surroundings first."

"Understood. When do you anticipate that will be?"

"I need to set a schedule where Popuri and Lara can properly oversee it. Well, I'll talk to them today, so probably tomorrow or the day after."

"Oh, that is surprisingly soon. I thought you would take more time. After all, she is an important student, isn't she?"

"Even so, I know that wasting time won't solve anything. That’s why Popuri entrusted this to Fiora, knowing full well what it entails. I won't let anyone complain about it. Besides, Fiora has her own duties to attend to as well."

"Thank you."

Yuki-sama says it with such finality. He has promised me that he will not let anyone object to my actions. ...Yes. He is truly kind, to a degree that makes me worry. Now, looking back, I realize how incredibly reluctant he must have been when he declared to my father—even if only as a formality—that he would "treat me roughly."

"Next, we need the opinions of the experts. Souta-san, Sui, and the rest of the monitoring team—what do you think?"

Yuki-sama directs his question to the members in the monitoring room.

"Agreed. As noted in the report, she is stable for now. So, basically, anytime is fine, but it would be best to confirm her state of mind right before we proceed."

"Souta is right. The human heart is easily swayed. Just because she is fine now doesn't mean she won't be in turmoil when the time comes. Therefore, you should perform a final check with us when you go to speak with that girl. Also, I think we need the input of Comet and Agil, who handle the data, as well as Kagura and the others who are her schoolmates."

That is certainly true. It would be problematic if Noriko and I were to approach her just when she happened to be in a foul mood. And I agree that it is only right to seek the opinions of Kagura and the others who have been close to her.

"Alright. Then, let's have a meal tonight, which will also serve as an explanation for Popuri and the others. We can discuss the plan then."

Both Noriko and I nod at Yuki-sama’s words. I turn my gaze to Havia, who is reflected on the monitor; there, I see only a young girl, innocently and happily reading her book.

When we tell that girl the "cruel truth" of death... what will happen?

Revealing the truth is quite a heavy burden, isn't it? If it were good news, it would be easy, but bad news is frightening in so many ways. Like finding out you got a zero on a test!
