第1225堀:魔術実演の理由 (Part1)
Chapter 1225: The Reason for the Magic Demonstration
Side: Cleena
Yuki is performing this magic demonstration with the casual air of someone doing something mundane, but the content is truly malicious.
Admittedly, the magic he is showing right now consists entirely of what is considered "basic" in every country on every continent. What makes this a "demonstration" is simply the fact that he has increased the output to expand the power and range.
However, such a feat is impossible without extraordinary magic control and a vast, bottomless reservoir of mana. In other words, it is essentially something that only "we" can do. Well, perhaps someone with truly rare, exceptional talent might manage it, but that’s the level we’re talking about.
He is showing off Weed’s true strength by nonchalantly executing ordinary magic at such an absurd level. We don’t know what Yuki’s magic looks like when he’s actually serious, but I know it must go far beyond anything we could imagine.
Ignoring my thoughts, Yuki keeps his practiced sales smile plastered on his face as he continues the demonstration for the Viscount and Fusora. When Viscount Aoku sees the sheer scale of the water Yuki is wielding, his expression turns dead serious. Knowing the "real" Yuki, that sales smile of his makes me pity the Viscount. It is a blatant sign that he doesn't trust the person he’s dealing with. If that smile were ever directed at me, it would be enough to kill me. The Viscount seems to sense it, too, albeit vaguely.
"Now, since we’ve finished preparing for fire suppression, let’s move on. Fusora-san, please drink this."
"Eh? Is this a magic potion?"
"Yes. You can’t cast magic if your mana is empty, after all."
Yuki hands a magic potion to Fusora, whose mana was completely drained by the previous water spell. We have magic potions here too, and their basic effects are mostly the same. The only difference is the variation in quality depending on the creator.
*That* creator.
Normally, it would be unthinkable for a noble to drink something given by a stranger without hesitation, but perhaps due to her trust in Yuki, Fusora drinks it without a second thought. Of course, he wouldn't do something as stupid as poisoning her.
"Oh, it’s delicious. It tastes like orange."
"Indeed. Magic potions are usually bitter, so I’m glad it suits your palate. Now, has your mana recovered?"
"Um, yes."
Fusora checks her status and seems to confirm that her mana has indeed returned. Well, I can see that much myself. But it’s not just that—the potion is temporarily applying various boosts to her mana. Increased mana capacity, reduced mana consumption, increased auto-recovery... yes, it’s an impossible potion, no matter how many times I see it. Hmm, with this, she can practice a lot.
"Alright, then, next."
Yuki declares this and begins a demonstration of Fireball. Just like with the water, he starts with a standard Fireball and gradually increases the mana output, eventually expanding the number of projectiles and the range.
*Sizzle, sizzle...*
As a result, the wasteland is rapidly being scorched. That said, there is no issue, as he is using the reservoir he prepared beforehand to prevent the fire from spreading uncontrollably.
"As you can see, it is all about how you utilize even the most basic magic. The same applies to narrowing the focus to increase firepower instead. Of course, increasing both scale and power simultaneously causes mana consumption to skyrocket."
"Amazing! Yuki-sama is amazing! Mikos-sama is amazing too!"
"I’m glad you’re pleased. Right, Mikos, Agil?"
"Yes."
"Indeed. It’s a good thing to take an interest in magic."
*Hmm.*
The only supporters this time are Mikos and Agil. I was a student at the Magic Academy, so I could have been a supporter too, but I suppose I shouldn't be greedy since I’m currently on guard duty.
"What other kinds of magic are there besides the basics?"
"Well, that’s also a matter of perspective..."
As he says this, Yuki uses his mana to make the earth bulge upward.
"This is the earth magic you know: an earth wall. Now, magic often involves using the same spell with different attributes. What do you think would happen if you recreated this wall made of earth using water or fire?"
"...It seems straightforward, but would it be a Fire Wall or a Water Wall?"
"Yes, exactly. And whether it’s earth, fire, or water, there is no difference in the function of obstructing an opponent’s advance. Now then, out of these three, which do you think consumes the least amount of mana?"
"Mana consumption?"
For Yuki, he is explaining things in unusual detail. Instead of the ridiculous explanation that "you can do it because you can do it," he is trying to explain the underlying logic. To me, it’s a simple question, but for Fusora, it seems to be something she has never considered before. She thinks for a moment, then...
"Is it the earth wall?"
"And why is that?"
"Um, that is..."
As she speaks, Fusora creates an earth wall on the spot—not on the scale of Yuki’s, but appropriate for her own mana capacity. Oh, so she can use the earth attribute too. Just as I think that, she manifests walls of fire and water...
"Once the earth wall is created, it doesn't require much mana afterward, but the fire and water walls are still consuming mana to maintain their shape."
"Correct. Therefore, if you only need to provide a wall against an enemy, using earth is the most mana-efficient choice. Besides, it would be troublesome if the places where Viscount Kinao and the others are sitting were made of water or fire, wouldn't it?"
"Yes. That would leave them charred or drowned. Is this what you meant by 'perspective,' Yuki-sama?"
"Exactly. Well, there are various combinations and the construction of new theories, but those are things to look forward to after you go to the Haiden Magic Academy."
With that, Yuki’s magic demonstration came to an end. It was a bit of a shame that he didn't turn the entire wasteland into a scorched field, even though it was a wasteland to begin with. It’s not good for the Viscount to fully grasp Yuki’s true power, but I do want him to know that Yuki is the greatest husband in the world.
By the way, it was decided that the tiered seating and desks Yuki created would be left as they are, since they were already built. The Viscount expressed a desire to keep them, thinking they could be used for gatherings or events.
Hmm, now something that demonstrates Yuki’s power remains in this town of Aoku. The Zufuia Kingdom will "properly" learn about Yuki and Weed. Yes, to gain a proper understanding, some form of information is necessary. This is essential for our future activities in the Zufuia Kingdom. It might be an exaggeration, but this level is just right.
And then...
I approach Agil.
"How is it?"
I ask that one simple, pointed question.
"Oh, Cleena. Is it alright for you to be over here?"
"Hmm. Ria and Fiora are handling Yuki’s guard duty. I came here as a technician."
