Chapter 1275: Assessing the State of Weed
Side: Yuki
Today, I’m not in my usual office. Instead, I’m standing before a whiteboard in the General Government Building’s conference room.
The room is filled with my usual guard detail—Ria, Jessica, Cleena, and Samantha—along with my adjutants: Fiora, Orelia, Hovis, and Yayui. On top of that, Seraria, Quar, Kagura, Comet, and Agil are present, which is why we’re using this larger space.
The rest of the staff are busy tending to their regular duties.
"Alright, everyone has their tea, so let's get started. Simply put, today is about summarizing our current situation."
"A summary?"
"Yeah, or maybe a reorganization? With the launch of the exchange student program and everything else we’ve been handling, things have gotten a bit muddled. The goal is to sort out our ongoing projects and operational tasks. That’s why I’ve asked for at least one representative from each continent to be here. That said, pulling everyone away would stall our work, so the plan is to consolidate the information here and disseminate it to everyone later."
"I see. Well, it is true that some tasks are split across various departments, and the lines between what we do as the nation of Weed and what you do in your personal capacity have become a bit blurred. It’s definitely time to organize things," Seraria says, speaking for the group.
She’s right. We have so many irons in the fire that things are becoming chaotic. While some of this is unavoidable, we need to straighten things out before we lose track of what we’re actually doing.
Furthermore, while each department is handling its assigned tasks, we often swoop in to dump new work on them or pull their personnel away, leading to situations where the workload remains the same even though the staff has vanished. We need to keep a firm grasp on that.
Above all, if the staff feels like they’re being given "endless, thankless tasks," their efficiency will plummet.
With that in mind, I start writing on the whiteboard. First, I outline the general scope of "What We Do in Weed." Since Weed exists to fulfill "my mission"—a task that’s a total pain in the ass—I include that as well.
* Administration of Weed
* Diplomacy with other nations
* Investigation of the magical power depletion phenomenon
"It’s a broad overview, but we operate based on these three pillars. Everyone on board with this? Anything else to add?"
I check the room, but at this level, no one has any objections. Of course, we can’t really discuss anything without getting into the details, so I start filling in the blanks.
* Administration of Weed: What does it entail?
* Public Safety: Police and neighborhood associations. Status: Going well. (Primary leads: Tori, Riel, Kaya)
* Supplies for Residents: Clothing, food, entertainment. Status: Smooth, with good reserves. (Primary lead: Ratz)
* Assets/Resources: DP supply and trade. Status: Abundant. (Primary leads: Eris, Ratz)
* Finances: Managing resources and DP effectively. (Lead: Eris)
* Military: Seraria’s Royal Guard + Monster Army. Status: Well-equipped. (Primary leads: Seraria, Myself, Dressa)
* Tourism: Boosting Weed’s reputation and bringing in revenue from visitors. (Primary lead: Ratz)
"This is my rough breakdown of Weed’s operations. Anything else?"
"What about the facilities and buildings?"
"I categorize those under Assets and Resources. The land within the dungeon is DP-based, and the buildings—aside from the ones summoned directly via DP—are a mix of materials and labor."
"I see, that’s how you view it. So, what’s your take on the current state of Weed’s administration?"
"Personally, I think it’s running smoothly. We might be short-handed in some areas, but that can be solved by hiring new personnel. Sure, there are secrets we can’t make public, but I think we’ve reached a point where we can leave things to them."
"That’s true. With the start of the exchange student program, Eris and Ratz are stepping down from their roles in accounting and commerce, so we’ll be handing those over to their successors."
Exactly. Weed’s administration is becoming largely self-sufficient. It’s proof that the citizens of Weed are growing. We’ll still need to keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t go off the rails, but that’s part of Seraria’s job as Queen.
However, it’s not without its problems.
"That said, there are some things we can’t hand over yet."
"Oh? Which roles are those?"
Ria and the others tilt their heads, clearly unsure.
"Milly, who represents the Adventurer’s Guild; Labyris, who is acting as the Dungeon Master; and myself, who oversees the Monster Army."
"Ahhh..."
They nod in unison, finally understanding.
"The Adventurer’s Guild representative needs to bridge the gap between the guild and Weed, requiring someone who understands both. And as for the 'Dungeon Master' position, that’s not something we can just hand off easily."
"Indeed. The Adventurer’s Guild is an organization separate from Weed, spanning far beyond a single nation. It would be difficult to entrust that connection to someone outside our inner circle. And as for the Dungeon Master, which dictates the very existence of Weed, isn't it safer to keep that within the family?"
Jessica is right. We can’t just hand over those seats to any citizen, regardless of their capability. It’s a matter of trust and reliability; if things go wrong, Weed itself could be destroyed.
It might sound harsh, but Weed’s finances, supplies, and public safety can be managed through dungeon skills. Even if successors like Tepha, Non, or Poni were to fail, we could still recover. But the relationship with the Adventurer’s Guild and the management of the dungeon itself? If something goes wrong there, repairs are a nightmare—or worse, fatal. It takes a lot of courage to delegate those.
"Jessica is right. It’s safer to keep it in the family... but the question is, who could replace Milly?"
"Hmm, the Adventurer’s Guild is certainly a headache. Say, why don't some of us become adventurers?"
