Chapter 1337: Respective Holiday Plans
Side: Yuki
A fleeting three-day weekend is coming to Weed tomorrow.
It’s shorter than Golden Week, and we aren’t planning any particular events.
I established this break simply to reward my subordinates, who have been pushing themselves to the limit due to the new international student exchange program and related matters.
If I were to host an event now, it would only cause them more suffering.
That would be putting the cart before the horse.
Therefore, we in the upper management don’t have any plans to make a fuss; we intend to spend it leisurely.
At most, we might head to the floor with the ocean and go for a swim.
Anything more than that, and the travel time alone would eat up the entire break.
Just as I was thinking this:
“...So, I’d like to go back to my parents’ home.”
“Is that alright?”
“Would it be okay?”
Kagura and the others came to me asking for permission to return home.
Ah, right. The Haiden region is still in a state of flux, so I suppose they’re concerned about it?
There’s no particular reason to stop them, but...
“The break is only three days, you know?”
“Yes. I’m aware of that. I’m not sure if Father will be there yet, but Kanna-ane-sama is planning to return as well.”
“Ah, come to think of it, she’s still here because the tests are over, right?”
“She has to report to and provide guidance for the newly arrived instructors. And, of course, for the students as well.”
“Then, you might as well use the opportunity to file your reports, too.”
“Yes. I imagine that’s how it will go.”
I’m sure they’ve already submitted reports via the Gate, but it’s unthinkable to operate without hearing the opinions of those on the ground.
Doing it while they’re there makes sense.
“And Micos, you’re heading to the Jarna Barony, right?”
“Yeah. I’m going to go see Dad and the others. I’ve kind of left them alone ever since we built the airfield.”
“Ah, that’s true.”
Originally, that was built for defense because the Kingdom of Seasypho had brought their military forces over.
That said, although there were some minor troubles with the Kingdom of Seasypho, things have stabilized now, and that place has just become a flight testing ground.
You can’t fly airplanes inside the dungeon, after all.
We’ve been keeping the aircraft there—the ones that can’t take off or land on the carrier I received from Luna, which we’ve been forcing them onto anyway.
I’ve explained the situation to the people in the Barony, but I haven’t heard much since.
I asked them to produce things like strawberries, but I haven’t heard much about the progress on that, either.
“Then, while you’re at it, Micos, please check on the status of the strawberries and other crops. I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can go with you. If I go to Micos’s place, it won’t just end there.”
“It’s okay. Yuki-sensei, you should take it easy. I’ll make sure to ask about everything.”
Since the Baron holds a lower rank, whenever I ask, they just reply that everything is going well.
I’ve been gathering information through Kirika’s intelligence unit, but it’s necessary to hear it directly from Micos as well.
“Enora... where is your hometown, exactly?”
I saved Enora for last because of this question.
Enora is a Bishop of the Haile Church, the largest sect in the Haiden region.
Where is the hometown of someone in such a religious position?
Is it the grand headquarters? As I was wondering that...
“Actually, I was thinking of accompanying Kagura.”
“To Kagura’s?”
“Yes. I’d like to take Sota-sama and Enoru-sama back to their homeland during the break. You see, those two are quite reserved.”
“Well, they are famous figures, after all.”
Those two are legendary figures in the Haiden region.
Because of that, if they were to step onto the public stage, chaos in the various countries would be inevitable.
The Haiden Kingdom, in particular, could turn into a major problem.
That’s why they’re living their new lives as the deceased here in Weed, but...
“If it’s just returning to Kagura’s parents’ home, it should be fine. Just make sure to notify the relevant parties beforehand.”
“I’ll handle that properly, so don’t worry. And while I’m glad you gave us permission, Yuki, don’t you have any plans? Weren’t you thinking of doing something?”
Enora asks this with a slightly apologetic look.
Perhaps she thinks that if I had plans, this conversation would mean rejecting them.
However...
“No, there’s a limit to what you can do in three days. At most, it’ll be dining or swimming in the resort district. Well, we do have a plan to gather on the night of the second day for a luxurious meal.”
“Then, we can just return by then.”
“No, if you do that, you’ll effectively only have one day there. Isn’t a one-night, two-day trip too short?”
“I think it’s fine. It gives us a reason to return.”
“That’s true. It’s better to have a reason to return early. If we push the dinner to the third day, we won’t be able to drink since we have work the next day, so I think that’s perfect.”
It seems a dinner party on the night of the second day is convenient for the three of them.
Well, they’ll likely get tangled up in various things, so having a reason to leave quickly might help them avoid that...
“Come to think of it, what about Solo?”
“Solo is returning home with Micos.”
“With Micos?”
“Huh? Didn’t I tell you? Yuki-sensei, Solo’s family moved to Dad’s territory to ensure their safety.”
“Ah, I think I remember hearing something like that...”
Unlike Kagura and Micos, Solo is a commoner, not a noble.
If he had joined a regular mage corps, his family wouldn’t have been in danger, but now he’s a diplomat stationed in Weed in place of Kagura and Micos.
There’s a possibility he’s drawing quite a bit of jealousy in Haiden.
So, it was decided they would move to Micos’s territory for protection.
There was talk of the Kamishiro family, but since the Duke of Kamishiro protecting them would blatantly invite jealousy, it was decided that a Baron-level territory would be better.
...Yeah, politics is such a pain.
“Well, all three of you will be taking guards with you, right?”
“That goes without saying, we’ll be fine.”
“To think Micos-chan is now in a position to be targeted...”
“Of course. Micos is now in a department that gathers a wide range of information about Weed, so she’s going to have people probing her from all over.”
“In that case, I’ll just hand them our information magazine.”
“...Why do I feel like that’s not wrong?”
I feel like that’s not wrong, either.
That said, it’s not just Micos; my wives all possess vital information, so there’s no doubt that people will try to target them from various angles.
It helps that they have that kind of mindset.
“Come to think of it, am I the only one returning to my hometown?”
“Hmm. It might not be called a ‘hometown,’ but Cleena and Samantha are planning to return to the Lancer Magic Academy along with Havia, Nilua, Wazfi, and Lara. They need to report to Popuri.”
It’s been ten days since school started, so she’ll want that information.
“Ah, come to think of it, is the International Academy going on break, too?”
“Just a regular two-day break. During that time, some of the faculty will return to file reports. It’ll be tough for them, though.”
“Hmm. Won’t the students be targeted?”
“You mean the Anti-Weed Alliance? What about that? I haven’t heard anything about their progress, have you?”
