第1545堀:待っている人たち (Part2)

Because of that, work isn't strictly a morning-to-evening affair; people are often kept busy until late afternoon. In fact, some assignments involve overnight stays or several days away. Since some of the tasks in Weed carry a risk to one’s life, they aren’t exactly the most popular positions.

Of course, since the city acts as a hub for job placement, there is plenty of demand for safe labor. However, I can’t help but feel that "real" adventuring is something else entirely. Some seasoned adventurers, seeing the kind of work the women, children, and elderly of Weed handle, tend to look down on those tasks.

But putting that aside, Ovik and his group are supposed to be top-tier adventurers. They shouldn't be the type to be lounging around since noon...

"Ah, this is part of the job. See, Yuki and the others are away, right? We were commissioned to handle Weed’s security in the meantime."

"""Ah..."""

Come to think of it, that was the case. Ever since the incident in Suurus, we had requested the Adventurer Guild’s cooperation to tighten our security. Ovik, much like Mauve, is a dedicated exclusive for Weed, making him the kind of person who always takes these jobs and leads from the front.

"Speaking of which, isn't Lord Yuki currently in Hinsua searching for a secret treasure? That’s where they headed, right?"

"You knew about that?"

I was surprised to hear those words come from Fusora. It wasn't exactly a state secret, but I didn't think Fusora paid attention to such things.

"I do! Searching for a secret treasure sounds so exciting!"

Fusora’s eyes sparkled as she spoke. Ah, so that’s why she’s interested. I suppose it would be more surprising if she actually understood that they were there to settle things with the Dark Guild.

"Ahaha, I figured you’d be interested in that kind of thing."

"Yes! Oh, but is it dangerous?"

"Well, yeah. It’s rarer for it *not* to be dangerous. Especially with something called a 'secret treasure'—there are bound to be all sorts of things protecting it. Traps, powerful monsters, you name it."

Lari answered Fusora’s question casually while sipping her iced coffee. The Adventurer Guild does actually maintain a level of interaction with the students here. They teach them about the profession and show them how to fight monsters.

In the Hyden region of the If Continent, the monster population is particularly low, so many children have never even seen one. Since they don't know the threat monsters pose, learning about them through adventurers is quite popular. And, consequently, so is the idea of becoming an adventurer. Well, at least while they’re here in Weed.

"...Do you think Lord Yuki and the others will be okay?"

Fusora asked Filia and the others, looking worried after hearing Lari’s explanation. But before Filia could answer...

"Big Brother would never go somewhere truly dangerous," Hiiro stated matter-of-factly while drinking her melon soda.

"Yeah, that’s right. Whenever Big Brother goes out, he makes sure the area is safe first. Kirika-chan and Steve go with him and do all the hard work."

"That’s right. We can’t have Lord Brother putting himself in harm's way. Absolutely not."

"Is that how it works?"

"Well, Yuki is so easygoing that it’s easy to forget, but he is the Queen’s husband. He’s the Prince Consort. Royalty."

"Exactly. Usually, when royalty goes somewhere, you ensure the area is secure first, right?"

"Ah, that makes sense."

Fusora clapped her hands together, seemingly convinced. I certainly agree that Lord Brother doesn't act much like a king, though.

"In that case, maybe he’s already found the treasure."

As Fusora said this with a smile, Filia and the others looked at each other.

"Yeah. If it’s Big Brother, he might have."

"It *is* Big Brother, after all."

"He always does things that catch us by surprise."

Hearing this, Ovik and Lari chimed in.

"Yeah, Yuki definitely has a knack for that."

"He really does the most unimaginable things~"

After that, everyone continued their idle chatter over tea, laughing together. I wonder how Lord Brother is doing? I’ll have to check in with him later.

Filia and the others were enjoying their student lives as usual. Unfortunately, at that moment, the secret treasure had not yet been found.
