第1563堀:地下物資の行方 (Part2)
"It’s just ordinary paper. Though, the quality is poor. Parchment is usually reserved for important contracts, and that kind of thing is typically kept in the Guild Master’s office. Still, it’s strange that there isn't even a single scrap of regular paper to be found."
Indeed, standard request forms and reports are written on common paper. I take another look at the floor, but I don't see a single sheet, nor even a fragment. Given how thoroughly this place has been ransacked, it wouldn't be surprising to find shelves overturned and paper scattered everywhere, yet there isn't a trace of it.
"Could it have been taken somewhere else?"
"Hmm. I’m not sure why they’d bother safeguarding ordinary documents, but from a guild’s perspective, keeping them safe makes the next handover much easier. It’s possible they hid them somewhere with that in mind."
Even if they were forced to flee amidst the chaos of the civil unrest, perhaps the Guild Master and the others had done their best. Still...
"It’s not here. If that’s the case, I hope it’s upstairs..."
I mutter, clinging to that sliver of hope. I’ve already confirmed the layout of this guild building using my dungeon skills to create a 3D model, and there are no hidden rooms. If they exist, they must be somewhere on the upper floors. If they were transported to some other house, tracking them would be difficult.
"I hope so, too."
Ria and the others agree, sensing my mood.
"For now, let’s regroup with Kiyu and the others."
With that, we abandon our search of the basement and head toward the upper floors. As we do, we hear the sound of footsteps—*tap, tap, tap*—descending the stairs. Wondering if something has happened, we see Lyushi coming down.
"Oh, Covil-sama and everyone. Thank goodness. Yuki-sama says the Guild Master’s office is overflowing with documents and asked if you could help organize them. Could you come?"
Hearing this, we all exchange glances.
"I see. The Guild Master must have moved them to the office to preserve them. That’s why there was nothing in the warehouse."
"Does that mean the information is that important?"
"Who knows? Though, it might just be important to the guild itself."
Kagura answers Ria’s question. It’s true that the likelihood of it being important to us is low. However...
"Well, even if it isn't vital to us, we’ve managed to secure documents that couldn't be taken out. We can certainly earn some favor with the Adventurer’s Guild. We did have a request to recover any valuables or materials from the old Vinoshia royal capital guild, after all."
That’s right. While our official cover is acting as bodyguards for Yuki and his group, we have a secondary mission to recover items from the old capital’s guild. It’s a "do it if you can" kind of task, but fortunately, it seems the harvest will be plentiful.
"I see. That works out well, then."
"Exactly. It means the Weed Adventurer’s Guild has achieved another success."
Talking like this, we follow Lyushi’s guidance until we reach the front of the Guild Master’s office, and...
"What is this?"
There are boxes piled high in the hallway. Just as I’m thinking this, Yuki emerges from the room, carrying a box.
"Oh, you’re here. Covil, can you hold this?"
He hands me a box that is physically larger than I am, as if it were nothing.
"A-awawa!?"
It’s not that I lack the strength, but the size makes it awkward to carry. I manage to support it from the bottom to keep the contents from spilling.
"Wait, you could just carry it easily with magic manipulation."
"Oh, right."
Prompted by his words, I lift the box using magic.
"So, Yuki-san. What exactly is all this?"
"Ria, it’s like this..."
Yuki begins to explain. Apparently, the moment they opened the Guild Master’s office, they were met with a wall of boxes. Confused, they opened one and realized it was filled with guild documents. Not wanting to treat them carelessly, they decided to sort through them and clean up the room as they went.
"So, where should I put this?"
"Ah, my bad. That one contains request reports, so, let’s see..."
"Brother. Those documents go in the room three doors down. Covil, I’m counting on you."
"Yes, yes."
My husband, Kiyu, is always more reliable than Yuki. Thinking this, we begin the task of organizing the documents. It seems all the materials and papers had been hastily stored in the Guild Master’s office. The food, however, was a total loss. Well, I suppose we should just be grateful they saved the documents.
