Indeed, at the end of the day, approval is required, and without the individual’s own drive, it would all be for naught.
"I’ve already looked into that. If she were to do it on her own, she could do as she pleased... though that might lack a sense of responsibility. But we’ve reached an agreement that this is a perfect opportunity."
"Since it’s a newly established town, are you suggesting she pose as a new arrival?"
"Exactly. And it’s not really 'posing'—she’ll be a genuine newcomer. Opening a bento shop."
"A bento shop, hmm? I know she loves to eat, but I wonder if she’s actually capable of working in one."
That is where my doubts lie.
Her emotions are difficult to read. They say it’s the result of her upbringing, but thanks to that, one can never tell what she is thinking. That extends to her enthusiasm and motivation as well. While such a trait might be an asset in the diplomatic arena, it certainly won’t work in her favor for a job like this. It’s exhausting for those working alongside someone whose drive is invisible. Above all, life as a commoner is worlds apart from the life of a diplomat.
"Well, we won't know until we try. It’s not like letting her wander around aimlessly is a viable solution, is it?"
"True, I suppose you have a point there."
I had voiced my concerns, but if she is to break free from her current situation, this is the only path—well, there is one other, but...
"It’s impossible for her to become a sister at the Lithea Church under these circumstances, after all."
"I suppose so. It would be the safest route, but it feels like the least suitable path for Canaria."
"A church requires, quite literally, the importance of communication. Of course, if she were to climb the ranks, her education as a princess might prove useful, but there is almost no chance of her advancing in the Lithea Church. Not unless she accomplishes some truly extraordinary feat."
Vinoshia has caused enough trouble for Lithea as it is. It’s impossible to ask people not to view her through a prejudiced lens.
"And if she were at the safest option—the Lithea Church in Weed—she’d be expected to have pleasant conversations with the believers under Lady Lilishe’s guidance, wouldn't she?"
"That is the least suitable place for her."
I state it with conviction. She is not cut out to be a church sister. To converse with others requires a degree of empathy for one's neighbor, and unfortunately, she is the polar opposite of that. It isn't necessarily her fault—she was raised that way, and it isn't easy to correct at this stage. I would feel guilty imposing such a burden on Lady Lilishe or Lady Hairen. Though, knowing them, they would likely accept her with open arms.
"She hasn't said she wants to do it either, so I think she’s aware of that herself."
"I’m grateful that she at least has the capacity to judge that much. If she had actually suggested it, it would have caused another stir. But, I suppose the current situation is acceptable, isn't it?"
"Right? I don't know how the bento shop will turn out, or if it’s even feasible, but since Yuki-sensei gave his approval, I don’t think it will end in disaster."
"I hope you’re right. Micos, you’re planning a feature on this, aren't you?"
"Yep. I’m hoping it might help smooth over the negative feelings people have toward Canaria."
"Yuki is likely aiming for that as well."
"He definitely is. If she works hard here, it should lower the barriers for her to work elsewhere."
Micos and I are in complete agreement. Yuki’s decision to approve such a delicate matter is surely intended to improve Canaria’s standing. By starting a business on her own and earning recognition—without violating the conditions I mentioned earlier—a bento shop is indeed a strategic target.
"If she earns a good reputation from the town officials, it can be featured in the magazine, which will serve as a catalyst for drawing people in. Micos-chan can write an article about how hard Canaria is working, and it will be easier for Yuki-sensei to provide support. I don't know if she’ll stick with the bento shop, but it won't be a wasted effort."
"True. Let us just pray that the bentos aren't unpalatable. That aside, we still need to clear the matters regarding the church."
With that, having received word from Micos and the headquarters' directive to wait until things settled before officially expanding into the port town, I proceeded to contact Weed. It seems the religion has no desire to create enemies everywhere it goes. In this other world, polytheism is the norm, so they are likely quite broad-minded about such things.
