第1629堀: 医療と軍 (Part2)

第1629堀: 医療と軍 (Part2)

"I haven't been told to leave, and besides, it’s probably better if I hear this, right?"

"Um, would it be alright if I listened in, too? Even if it is a bit late to ask."

"That is perfectly fine. Now, regarding the matter I wish to consult you on: the representatives for the new hospital—well, the representatives will be myself and Lady Elju—but I am struggling to select someone to serve as the hospital director. Furthermore, there is the issue of determining the severity of cases we will be equipped to treat."

"Ah..."

The Boss and I let out the same sound simultaneously. It really is a pressing issue, isn't it?

"...Rurua. Is there no one in the hospital with the talent for that kind of command and the ability to win over people's hearts?"

"To be perfectly honest, I do not know. While there are individuals who demonstrate strong leadership when surgery is required, however..."

"Ah, so they’re strictly field commanders, and when it comes to managing the entire hospital, it’s a different story."

"That is exactly it."

"I see. It’s true that asking a doctor, whose primary goal is to heal the sick, to also possess the skills to run a medical facility feels a bit off."

"That’s for sure. Even if they tried to go independent, that’d just be at the level of a private clinic, right? A hospital on the scale of Weed requires organizational management. You need knowledge of administration, separate from medicine. Oh, and the goal is just command, right? You aren't asking them to handle the finances and profitability as well, are you?"

I double-checked to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I highly doubted they’d hand over the reins of the budget and funding entirely, but if they did, the pool of candidates would shrink to almost nothing.

"No, I haven't gone that far in my considerations."

"That's good. I think that's for the best."

"I agree with the Boss on that one."

Even from just listening to the conversation, it’s clear that Rurua doesn't have anyone who possesses both organizational management skills and a sharp sense for finances. Then again, people who can do both are practically non-existent.

"In other words, you’re asking if we have any leads on personnel capable of management?"

"Precisely. If we can secure a top-tier doctor, the medical side isn't much of a problem. As I mentioned, the teamwork between doctors and their nursing assistants is already well-established, and we discuss those assignments thoroughly. But when it comes to administration, there are few doctors besides myself with experience, and those who do are from other nations."

"There are some in other countries? Can’t you poach them?"

Yeah, just like the Boss said, this is the first I’ve heard of such talented people. I’d love to get my hands on someone like that. I waited with bated breath for Rurua’s answer.

"It is Shou."

"Huh?"

"I said Shou, the Great Imperial Hope currently training from Zurable. Her track record is impeccable. She is still studying medicine, but that isn't strictly necessary for an administrative head, and her recovery magic is quite formidable in a pinch."

"No, no, no..."

I knew immediately that was impossible. She’s one of the absolute heavyweights of the Zurable Empire. There’s no way we could poach her.

"I suppose you are right. In that case, do you or Steve have anyone in mind?"

And so, we arrived at the heart of the matter. But...

"Hmm, among my subordinates, the only ones who could potentially handle that are Fiora and Prof..."

"I apologize, but I have my diplomatic duties, so that is impossible. Above all, I lack any medical knowledge."

Fiora rejected the idea immediately. Well, of course she would. That left Prof.

"I also have my hands full with the Resident Division, the Information Division, and assisting Lord Yuki, so unless you are telling me to die..."

"No, no, I’m not saying that at all."

"It is quite alright, Prof. Please continue to focus on assisting the Master."

Man, that was scary. Her eyes had completely lost their light.

"That brings us to you, Steve..."

"Ah, well, my subordinates are monsters, so that’s a no-go. Wait."

"Wait, what?"

"I just had an idea. My troops might be out, but there are medical teams in the human units, right?"

"Ah..."

It seemed they understood what I was getting at; everyone looked at each other.

"Let's head over to Seraria's place for now."

"Agreed. We need her permission regardless."

"Ah, what should I do?"

"Come along. If you explain it from your perspective, Steve, she’ll be convinced."

True enough. And so, we set off to find Seraria. Finding the truly necessary talent is such a difficult task. That is precisely why, sometimes, you end up pulling people from places that seem entirely unrelated.
