Chapter 1658: Now, What Kind of Lesson Shall We Have?

Side: Yuki

As I thought, a preliminary inspection was necessary.

The only regret is that it was only for half a day.

If I had a few more days, or even just more time, I could have thought of so much more, but there’s no use crying over spilled milk.

For now, I have no choice but to construct the lesson plan with the material I have on hand.

And so, we decide to use our preparation time to brainstorm the curriculum for tomorrow’s class together.

"For starters, regarding the purpose of establishing this International Exchange School—which Eupia requested—we’ll tweak the explanation I gave to the various nations before... Comet."

"What is it?"

"I’d like you to handle the basics, or rather, the common sense of Weed that you provided, specifically regarding the handling of electricity. You’re renovating a room right now, aren't you?"

"Renovating? I just put in a generator and hooked up some outlets, you know?"

"Well, just add a bit more to make it look like a room in Weed and explain it."

"Ah, well, alright. As for the lesson flow..."

"Please draft it."

For things like this, you need details on exactly how to teach it.

If we don't standardize this, there will be discrepancies in what’s taught in each classroom, which would be unfair.

"Next, Rushi, I’d like you to handle the medical side of things."

"H-huh? Um, I have absolutely no idea what I should be teaching."

"I have a letter entrusted to me by Rurua; you can select the topics from there."

I handed her the letter from Rurua, and Rushi read through it immediately...

"Ah, starting from such basic things... even hygiene management like handwashing?"

"Surprisingly, there are many people who don't know those things. Even if they do know, it’s a good way to review the fundamentals."

"I see. Alright, I’ll get started on that."

With that reply, Rushi began her work.

"And what should Stasia and Tori do? Prof and Orelia are supporting you, Yuki-sama, right?"

"Yes. I am here to assist Yuki-sama."

"Yes, that is correct."

"Honestly, Prof and Orelia seem like they’d be great at teaching, too."

After all, they are the heads of the Resident Division and the Information Division.

Being in positions where they manage subordinates, they should be skilled at nurturing others.

And Orelia has been working by my side for a long time now.

I’m sure she’s capable of explaining things to others.

"I am honored by your praise, but as I am Yuki-sama’s guard..."

"I, too, prioritize helping Yuki-sama over teaching others."

They turned me down flat.

Well, I knew that would happen, but still.

So, that leaves Stasia and Tori.

"The two of you will be teaching physical arts, martial arts, and combat techniques using weapons."

"Um, we talked about this earlier, but isn't that for the future?"

"That’s right. Aren't we gathering mages for now?"

"Exactly why. I’m going to tell them that mages need at least some martial prowess, too. The goal is for them to be proficient in both."

"I see. So we’re the ones who will drill it into them."

"That’s the idea. It should be fine to have you slip past the students' and teachers' magic to hold a weapon to them."

" "Understood." "

Both of them nodded, clearly able to visualize the scenario.

"Of course, I want you two to use magic as well. There’s no doubt that both are important. Comet and I will handle the formal magic instruction, so please choose techniques that can be utilized in close-quarters combat."

"Magic for close-quarters combat..."

"In that case, body reinforcement?"

"No, that’s hard to see. Let’s go with something easy to understand, like projectile-based magic."

"Projectiles... I suppose we should keep it to a level of mere suppression."

"What about using an explosion for a smokescreen?"

"Ah, the observers wouldn't be able to see that, so let’s save that for the very end."

While talking like that, we wrote down the content of the instruction into the documents.

That’s when I realized something...

"Come to think of it, how much time have we allocated for one subject—or is it one block? How long is a single class?"

Realizing this late in the game, I asked Show.

"Oh, I forgot to mention that. A single class is an hour and a half."

"That’s surprisingly long. In that case, can we manage?"

Our current plan was based on Weed’s standard of one hour.

"Um, Yuki-sama. If that’s the case, I think we’ll have 30 minutes left over? Besides, I’m not really used to teaching people..."

"Rushi, I’ll be there to follow up, so don't worry. And for everyone else, it’s unlikely any class will end exactly on the hour, and you’ll want time for questions, too. If you have time left over, you can talk about Weed. For example, about the delicious restaurants."

" " "I see." " "

"Show, is this alright?"

"Yes, that’s more than enough."

Improvisation is important in teaching.

It’s not wrong for a teacher to write on the blackboard while students copy it down, but because there’s no communication, it creates a gap between students who can learn that way and those who can't.

Well, if the goal is just to put what’s on the board into a test, rote memorization is the ultimate solution, and for a teacher whose only goal is to get students good test scores, that might be fine.

But our job here is to cultivate students who can thrive in the International Exchange School, and ultimately, people who can succeed in the international society of the future.

There isn't just one single answer to these things.

Of course, that doesn't mean tests aren't necessary.

Without basic knowledge—reading, writing, and arithmetic—they won't be able to handle paperwork.

However, more than that is required.

In other words, as I said at the beginning, we must foster communication so that the students can be active and successful after attending the International Exchange School.

Students who just sit there in silence won't be able to thrive in an international environment.

Well, I’ve thought about a lot of things, but those are things the teachers should be considering. Whether we need to go that far... well, we aren't exactly teachers, so it might be asking too much.

Still, we should do as much as we can.

And among us, I’m the only one who has ever stood at a podium.

I’ll have to support everyone.

"Well, I think that’s it for me. Show, please check this."

"Yes."

I handed the document containing the lesson plan to Show.

The content was concise:

・Greetings: 5 minutes

・Purpose of the International Exchange School: 10 minutes

・Q&A: 5 minutes

・Introduction of participating nations: 20 minutes

・Q&A: 5 minutes

・About classes at the school: 10 minutes

・About Weed, where the school is located: 10 minutes

・Q&A: 5 minutes

Total: 70 minutes.

The remaining 20 minutes are for casual conversation or to make up for overtime.

That’s how it looks.

Though, I have a feeling the Q&A sessions will definitely run long.
