Chapter 1701: Let's Begin and Measure Our Physical Strength

Side: Agil

Unusually, I found myself with Yuki, Holy, Vilia, and for some reason, Hiren, who had tagged along.

“Well, we’ll mostly be discussing our upcoming plans. And Agil will explain everything about the mechanical systems.”

“Right. I’m Agil, as introduced. Holy, we’ve only met briefly, haven’t we? We haven’t really talked in detail. I’m one of Yuki’s wives, and I’m primarily in charge of this kind of technological development.”

I’d heard about Holy too, but honestly, it didn’t concern me much. After all, Holy’s past was what it was. I was interested in the monster rampages, but I’d been getting information on that through Lilishe and Hiren. Since she was a former goddess, I paid close attention to those matters.

“Yuki’s… that technology?”

“Ah, well, not all of it, exactly.”

Or rather, most of it was borrowed, or just customized from existing foundations to be easier to use. Honestly, Earth’s technology is incredible. I’m still struggling just to keep up; creating something truly original is quite difficult.

“Now, Agil’s lecture on machinery can wait. These plans take priority right now.”

“That’s true. So, what should we do?”

“Are we going to check on Sister Nina?”

“Indeed. Vilia isn’t wrong. Our movements will change depending on Nina’s progress. But before that, we need to focus on things like coordination training for the two of you.”

“Coordination?”

“Yes.”

Holy tilted her head, but Vilia seemed to understand immediately.

“The two of you might have to work together to infiltrate enemy territory. If you don’t understand what each other can do, you might hinder one another. Conversely, if you have a firm grasp, your capabilities will greatly expand. Am I wrong?”

As Yuki said, a team that doesn’t practice coordination, or doesn’t understand what its members can and cannot do, is bound to hold itself back. Considering that, adventurer teams must be quite demanding. After all, they sometimes form teams on the fly.

“...I see. I understand what you’re saying. But can she fight?”

Oh, so that’s where we’re starting. Does Holy not know Vilia’s capabilities? No, at first glance, she looks like a refined young lady from some noble house. But inside, she’s the type who reveres Yuki even more than I do. About as much as Milly. Well, I understand the feeling. Especially Vilia. Anyway, moving on from that.

“She can fight, but you also need to know about Vilia’s other skills.”

“Yes, Vilia has studied and practiced a lot to be capable of many things.”

“Yes. I don’t know if I can be of much help to Holy-san, but I’ve learned a lot from my elder brothers. I believe I can manage enough combat to at least defend myself.”

“Is that so? Well, combat aside, there’s no harm in knowing what else she can do.”

Holy listened to Yuki, Vilia, and me, and nodded, so we decided to change locations to discuss coordination. Normally, I’d think, ‘How is this coordination if Yuki and I are also present?’ But Holy was originally a Demon Lord and a goddess, and her past is a complicated one. It’s questionable whether she even understands the meaning of coordination. So, we need to provide some support there. And Vilia is important to Yuki, and a good friend to me. Holy probably wouldn’t intend to treat her as disposable either.

Lost in such thoughts, we arrived at Weed’s military facility. A garrison, you could say. It wouldn’t be strange to see training here, and there are also places for meetings.

“This is a military facility?”

“Yes, Weed’s army trains and prepares here. Or rather, do you know about it?”

“‘Know’ isn’t quite right. It’s more like I saw something similar long ago. But I think that one also served as a fortress.”

Ah, indeed, military facilities outside of Weed often double as fortresses. On Earth, those walls are practically meaningless. No, it seems they do build fortress-like structures in some places, but it’s probably a matter of cost-effectiveness. A prominent base just makes it a bigger target. Yes, thinking about it again, Earth’s tactics are logical and efficient. They’re truly thorough.

“Well, this is a training ground. Rather than building a large fortress here, we protect the outer perimeter.”

“Indeed.”

“I used to train here too.”

“Vilia did?”

“Yes. I would run laps on that track over there to build stamina, and then practice sparring just like those soldiers.”

Where Vilia looked, soldiers were running laps on the track and sparring. That’s mostly all they do here. Magic and gunfire training are done elsewhere. Accidental discharges are too dangerous. This is strictly a place for basic training. Holy seemed to realize this too, and watched them.

“What’s wrong? Want to run? It’s probably been a while since you’ve really moved your body, hasn’t it?”

Yuki saw her expression and made the suggestion. Is he planning to show Vilia’s strength before they even talk? Or perhaps he wants to gauge Holy’s physical condition?

“Now that you mention it, yes. Is it alright if I transform?”

“Transform? You mean that thing where you become half-monster?”

“Yes.”

Ah, that monster transformation, or rather, donning something… yes, Holy’s description of ‘transform’ might be accurate. Like a Super Sentai hero, or a grasshopper hero.

“That can wait. First, why don’t you try moving properly in your natural form? If you suddenly transform over there, you might be identified as an enemy.”

“Ah, that’s certainly true.”

Indeed, if you become half-monster, and the other party is human, things could get very complicated. Even I would be wary. So, it’s important to see how well you can move in your current state.

“Alright, let’s get to it then. Orelia, please check with the office about the track’s availability, just in case. We’ll stop immediately if there’s any issue.”

“Yes, I’ll go now.”

Orelia took Yuki’s instructions and headed towards the building. We continued walking towards the track. The soldiers were a diverse group: female Royal Guards, regular army soldiers, and even monster troops. It might actually be quite amusing to see all of them huffing and puffing as they ran laps on the track. Though, in reality, it’s the kind of running that would make even us gasp for breath.

“Well, then, shall we run a bit too?”

“Eh?”
