第1834堀:ウィードに残っている者たち (Part2)
"It is dangerous, certainly, but there is no turning back for them now. Their intention is to chip away at the influence and authority of the Clearstream Church, after all."
Indeed.
Baron Siana and the others were forced to mobilize under the Church's unreasonable demands. Even if they were to realize now that this is a trap—a campaign predicated on their total annihilation—their course of action would remain unchanged.
No, they would likely move with even greater fervor to expose the truth, denounce the Clearstream Church, or dismantle it entirely.
I would do the same.
"If we tell them... might it not simply inflame their will to fight even further?"
"I believe so. Regarding this matter, would it not be best to speak with Yuki-sama and seek his counsel? After all, the command of the New Continent rests with him."
"You're right. Besides, our primary focus must remain on the Intercontinental Exchange Alliance, centered here in Weed."
"Yes. While the completion party at Glass Port Town has concluded and Sona and Sisua are managing the town smoothly, that does not mean we can afford to rest. Beyond our diplomatic duties, the incident at Sulus exposed the vulnerability of Weed’s military capabilities, and reinforcing that has become our most urgent priority."
At Quar’s words, I felt the atmosphere shift.
Thinking about the New Continent is a heavy, melancholic affair.
I will leave that side to Yuki. As for us, we must ensure Weed remains steadfast, just as Quar suggests. That is the greatest support we can offer to Yuki and the others currently stationed on the New Continent.
"Understood. Let us reorganize our current status in Weed. I will leave the New Continent to Yuki."
"Very well. To recap: the Glass Port Town completion party is over, and we have revealed the existence of the New Continent to the major powers. We have also informed them regarding the mobilization of troops. We are currently awaiting their responses, but as for their enthusiasm..."
"The response was more than sufficient. They will surely mobilize. After all, they can secure new territory without having to wage a war for it."
Indeed.
Even the Zilba Empire, my motherland, was not just willing—they were eager.
Nevertheless...
"It will not be as simple as just sending troops. There is our preparation to consider, but there is also the preparation on the other side. Above all, they will not move until they have sufficient intelligence on the land itself."
"It feels like a New Continent issue, but it’s a massive undertaking that involves us as well. I suppose I must be the one to act as the point of contact and coordinate it all."
"That is correct. Yuki will handle the intelligence of the New Continent, while we handle the explanations and correspondence for the Intercontinental Exchange Alliance. In fact, if we do not divide the labor to this extent, Yuki will collapse."
"True enough."
"Indeed. That man only ever finds more work for himself."
Both of them nodded at my words.
Yuki truly does attract trouble, or rather, he moves in a way that creates more work for himself in his attempt to ensure a win-win-win for everyone. To say he is the one who loses out most might be inaccurate, but he is certainly the one who bears the greatest burden.
"Even though we put Orelia and the others by his side, the work just keeps piling up, doesn't it?"
"To be fair, Orelia and the others are working quite hard, and it feels as though we’ve simply filled that extra capacity with more tasks."
"Well, the New Continent matter, as well as the incident at Sulus, were both sudden, unforeseen events."
If anything, it was fortunate that Orelia and her group were already in place at that time. The troubles that followed Sulus would have occurred regardless of their presence, and there is no doubt they helped alleviate the strain on Yuki.
"Indeed. And that incident laid bare the limits of Weed’s operational capacity."
"Let us take that as a sign that our weaknesses have been identified, which is a positive. We are already moving to improve them."
"Yes. It would be a blessing if we could find more individuals as adept at command and administration as Sisua and Sona..."
"Those kinds of people don't just appear so easily, do they? How are things on your end, Quar? Anyone capable of following in Sisua and Sona’s footsteps?"
"It is not that there are none, but we are currently in the midst of filling the void left by Sisua and Sona."
"If we are looking for promotions, the Royal Guard would be the most suitable, but that would lead to a decline in our frontline strength. But then, what of the work we would assign to those we promote?"
"That would be for a mobile unit—a new assignment for the recruits we are currently training. I am not yet sure how they will be classified, but I think it would be good to have a military that follows the main Weed army, the monster army, the navy, and a small air force."
Indeed, what we need in our current situation is a force that can be deployed at a moment's notice.
Though, unless there is trouble, they would likely remain a reserve force, but that is a matter for further consultation.
Seraria and the rest of us who remained behind are by no means having an easy time of it.
A military cannot be built overnight, but once created, it cannot simply be left to stagnate. The maintenance costs alone are astronomical.
If there is work to be done, then all is well.
Well, Weed is never short on battles, after all.
