Chapter 1857: Preparing for Future Problems
Side: Hiiro
"Vili-onesama really has it rough, doesn't she?"
"She truly does. The situation in the north is incomprehensible. You never know where the landmines are buried."
Hiiro and the others were taking a break in the office at the Glass Port military harbor, discussing Vili and the others.
Recently, the flow of security for the sea and the town had finally stabilized, and things were running smoothly.
...Heh heh.
Setting up shifts is truly a pain.
It’s incredibly difficult to find that balance—the minimum number of personnel required without leaving the defense spread too thin.
On top of that, we’ve been researching the deployment of aircraft carriers and escort ships, and we’ve even begun scouting the neighboring seas with actual sorties.
Honestly, it’s a demon realm where any normal person would be gobbled up the moment they stepped foot in the water.
I can finally understand why Onii-sama says people shouldn't get too close.
"Well, now that things have settled down, if the time comes, I’ll be sending you out, Hiiro."
"Yeah, I understand. Dre-onesama can't exactly move, after all."
"That’s true. Well, you’re capable of commanding, aren't you, Hiiro? It’s not like you can't do it."
"It’s not that I *can't*, but Dre-onesama’s maneuvers are just better."
I can’t match the fleet command of someone like Dressa.
I lose more often than I win.
Besides, Hiiro’s primary job is essentially operating units under Dre-onesama’s command.
"Yes. That is a fact. However, if it comes to fleet operations over there, I’ll be the one going."
"Over there? What kind of situation would that be?"
"Who knows? But it wouldn't be strange to have to survey the seas of the New Continent, would it? Or perhaps provide combat support."
"Hmm, that’s true."
It’s not impossible.
The situation in the New Continent is truly a mystery.
Whether it’s combat support with the fleet or ultra-long-range attacks with missiles, having that capability is undeniably better.
And a survey of the seas is even more likely.
In fact, I think it will eventually come to that.
In that case, there is a high possibility that the defense of Glass Port and the operation of the survey fleet will fall to Hiiro or Vili-onesama.
Well, the reverse could also happen, so there’s a high chance I will be the one in command.
"Well, I doubt we’ll be called today or tomorrow, but once we head out to areas facing the sea, it wouldn't be strange to be summoned at any moment."
"In other words, we will eventually be acting separately?"
"That’s right. So, stop being reluctant and learn to be capable of it."
"...I understand."
If I don't become capable of handling this properly, I’ll just be a burden to Onii-sama.
That is unacceptable.
"Hah, if you only showed this kind of diligence to Vilia, she might nag you less, don't you think?"
"Vili-onesama is always going to nag. Even though she knows Hiiro is trying her best."
Vili-onesama will always be an older sister, no matter how much time passes.
"Is that how it is?"
"That’s how it is. So, shouldn't we tell Sisua and Sona about this?"
"About this? Ah, the talk about you or me heading out?"
"Yeah. It’s about the future defense of Glass Port, isn't it?"
"Ah, you’re right. It’s not like it’s a certainty, but it’s worth mentioning. We are coordinating with Glass Port, so we should probably let them know..."
"Yeah. It’s better to discuss these things in advance than to talk about them after the decision is made."
"You’re right."
With that, Hiiro and Dre-onesama headed toward the town hall where Sisua and Sona were located, and...
"Oh."
" "Ah." "
For some reason, we ran into Onii-sama, Rie-onesama, and Deryu-onesama.
"It seems like I keep running into everyone today."
"These things happen, you know."
"Yahoo, Hiiro, Dressa."
"Yahoo, Rie-onesama."
"Yes, you look well, Riel."
Hiiro said that and high-fived Rie-onesama.
Surprisingly—no, naturally—Hiiro and Rie-onesama are good friends.
We play together often.
And we see each other frequently at work, too, given the coordination between the military and the police.
"So, what are you all doing here? Since it's the town hall, are you here to talk to Sisua and Sona?"
"Yeah. Is it the same for you, Dressa?"
"Yes. If you’re going to be a while, I can come back later."
"No, it shouldn't take that long."
"I see. Then that’s perfect. Would you mind listening to what we have to say as well?"
"Did something happen with the Navy?"
"You could say that. It’s about the New Continent. There’s a possibility that one of us will have to head out, right?"
Dre-onesama stated the content of the matter quite plainly.
Well, it’s not like it’s something to hide.
"...That’s true. No, I definitely want to survey the seas, so I’ll be sending someone out for sure. And since I’ll want self-defense capabilities, it’ll be the Navy."
"If that happens, either I, Hiiro, or Vilia will be operating a separate fleet, right? In that case, we’ll have to rethink the organization of the Glass Port Navy as well, won't we?"
"Ah, if that happens, the coordination with Glass Port will change, too..."
"Exactly. Well, I don't know to what extent it will change, but even if one of us remains, a change in the chain of command is unavoidable. We just decided to explain that it’s a possibility in advance."
"I see. In that case, it’s better if I’m there. Hiiro, are you okay with that?"
"Yeah. Hiiro is a candidate for commander, after all."
"I see. Which one of us goes depends on the situation, anyway... Well, there’s no point in worrying about it now. For now, let’s go see Sisua and Sona."
Thus, Hiiro and Dre-onesama headed toward Sisua and Sona’s office along with Onii-sama and the others.
It seemed the two were in, and we were ushered into the room without waiting.
There, as always, were the two of them, battling against a mountain of paperwork.
"Oh my, it really is Yuki-sama and the others. Why such a large group?"
"Is there some kind of emergency?"
Seeing the number of people, the two stopped their work and stood up, worried that something major had occurred.
Yeah, even Hiiro would be on guard if this many people showed up at her workplace.
"It’s an emergency in a sense, but there’s almost no danger."
"Indeed. Riel and I are here regarding the public order of Glass Port as the police."
"And I am here regarding the future maritime security and defense of Glass Port."
"In other words, we were visiting for separate matters and just happened to run into each other, so we came together."
"I see. So it’s nothing serious. That’s a relief. So, who should we hear from first?"
Ah, we hadn't decided on an order.
Just as I was wondering what to do...
"Ah, it should be me, Deryu, or Riel first. Dressa and Hiiro are here regarding the movements of the Glass Port military."
Onii-sama explained the criteria for the order quite easily.
