Chapter 94 Noah Schmidt
I was led by the Sister to the classroom where the high-ability students were. There were seven kids here, scattered in age from ten to sixteen—seems like they’d gathered a real mix.
“This is it.”
The Sister stopped in front of the classroom door. Didn’t look like she was stepping inside. “I’ll leave the rest to you,” she said, then turned and walked away.
“Well… what kind of kids are in here…?”
I pushed the door open and stepped in. Seven desks, spaced apart, sat in the wide classroom. The students were quietly seated, calm as could be.
“Hello.”
I stood in front of the teacher’s desk and greeted them in English. The Sister said they could speak English, so I figured it’d be fine… but still.
“Hello, Teacher.”
The silver-haired boy in the front row greeted me back. I checked the attendance roster on my tablet. His name was listed as Noah… or Noah Schmidt.
“So you’re Noah.”
“Yes, I’m really happy a new Teacher came.”
The other students, starting with Noah, all smiled warmly at me. I’d expected something more chaotic, wild even—but this was nothing like that.
“From today, I’m going to teach you all how to use your… ‘powers.’ I’m Gojo. Nice to meet you. By the way, I’m from Japan. Anybody know where that is?”
“Yeah, I know Japan. I’ve seen manga and anime before.”
The big guy in the back answered. Arthur, right? I didn’t need the roster to remember his face—had already memorized the names and looks. Shouldn’t mess that up…
“What kind of things are you gonna teach us, Teacher?”
“Huh… well, first off, I can’t teach you anything unless I know what your abilities are. So, how about you all show me what you can do?”
“Got it. I’ll show you my ability as a kind of introduction.”
Noah smiled back.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
"Noah"
"I got it."
I gave Arthur a quick nod. He caught on immediately and nodded back.
"Teacher! I'm proud of my strength. Let's have a arm-wrestling match!"
"Arm-wrestling?... Yeah, sure! Let's do it."
The Teacher who introduced himself as Gojo clasped hands with Arthur on the desk. Arthur had the unique skill 【Iron Arm】. Even among adult sorcerers, having a unique skill is rare. Some teachers have had their bones broken in this very match. Is Gojo Teacher gonna be okay?
"Ready, go!"
"Uuuugh!"
"Whoa, strong! Amazing, isn't it!"
Wait—Arthur's face was red, muscles straining, but Gojo’s arm didn’t budge... not even a twitch. In fact, he was smiling coolly.
"Alright, game over!"
He easily pinned Arthur’s arm flat on the desk. I’ve never seen Arthur lose before. Fighter-type sorcerer...? He’s seriously strong. Then...?
"Victor!"
Victor gave a light nod in reply.
"Hey, Teacher, now you gotta see my stuff. I can do magic. I wanna know if I’m handling it right."
"Ooh, magic? Cool—show me!"
Victor summoned flames around himself, gathering the roaring fire into his right hand into a blazing fireball. Victor had the unique skill 【Gift of Flame】. No one outmatches him with fire magic.
"Here I go, Teacher!"
The fireball shot straight toward Gojo. Victor’s flames were explosive—burning across the entire body. Even if it spread, Sal’s water magic could put it out. But it was still a damn good threat.
The flames exploded right in front of Gojo, erupting into a roaring blaze. But—
"What...? What the hell?"
Sara stood frozen, eyes wide. The flames spread out in front of Gojo—like some kind of round barrier, they didn’t touch him at all.
“Damn… incredible. If you can control magic this well, you wouldn’t need to teach anything…?”
Gojo spoke, gathering the scattered flames into his hands, then amplifying them into an even larger blaze.
“But if you get even better… you could do something like this.”
The fire leapt from his hands, spiraling violently—then reshaping into the form of a dragon.
“Fire Dragon!”
The beast charged toward us, swallowing all seven of us whole. I braced for the searing heat—burning alive…! But—nothing. Not even warm. What the hell?
“Interesting, huh? When you master fire completely, you can choose exactly what burns… and what doesn’t.”
Gojo extinguished the flames with a flick. He can control magic too!? If he’s this strong and can use magic… he’s definitely a “Magic Warrior.” The first high-tier human we’ve ever seen…
But that’s not who we’re waiting for!
“Noah… what now?”
Arthur whispered, voice shaky. No way we’re backing down.
“Teacher, show us Croe’s ability too. She can do something… unusual. Croe, show him.”
“Eh… y-yeah…”
“Of course I’ll check everyone’s powers. Go ahead—try it.”
Getting cocky, huh? But with Croe around, strength and magic mean nothing. Time to show her what real power is.
“Here we go—SUMMONING!!”
A glowing magic circle etched into the floor. From within the light, a monster emerged.
“—Ogre!!”
A red demon, at least two meters tall, materializes with powerful magic energy. Normal summoning spells produce random monsters, but Chloe can summon this demon—this ogre—whenever she wants.
This thing? Fighting it would leave you seriously hurt. Teacher!
“Huh… so you can summon something like this with summoning magic… impressive for your age.”
Huh? You’re not even fazed. Not scared at all?
“Yeah, I can summon magic too. Watch me.”
““Huh!?!””
“Summon!! — Sprigan!!”
From the magic circle on the floor, an absurd surge of energy erupts. From within the light, a single “demon” emerges. Chloe’s summoned ogre looks tiny—like a child compared to this one.
The classroom has a high ceiling, but this “demon’s” head is almost touching it.
“VOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”
The demon roars. Cracks spiderweb across the walls. All the windows shatter. The shockwave knocks us back, hands flying to our ears.
The ogre that took the full blast straight-on disintegrates into light particles, vanishing completely.
“Ah crap—bad move.”
Gojo says that, then waves a hand toward the broken glass. The shattered panes begin to glow. Scattered glass on the floor starts snapping back into place—like time rewinding.
“—Generate—!”
What…!? That’s… I’ve seen that before. The blacksmith’s职业 skill—“Generate.” The final shard clicks into place. Perfect. Just like it was before.
This guy… how many abilities does he even have?
“Alright, that’ll do… now, let’s check out the others’ powers, shall we?”
