Seeing this, I finally relaxed.
No monsters remain in the vicinity.
A considerable number of monsters should still have been within range of Abyss Magic, yet detection revealed them fleeing as if chased by a hare.
Either they fled upon seeing the Fire Dragon fall, or upon seeing Abyss Magic.
Either way, it is welcome relief now.
Status-wise, level-up restored all health. Mentally, however, fatigue remains.
As always, a precarious battle.
Victory was little short of miraculous.
One direct hit from the Fire Dragon’s attack would have been fatal.
Even a glancing blow or residual wave would have brought near-death.
A direct hit would have shattered endurance instantly—immediate death.
Had Parallel Consciousness not leveled up just before encountering the Fire Dragon, it would have been dire.
Parallel Consciousness leveled up. Now two individuals bear the burden of magic.
Thanks to that, I can now use Abyss Magic, which I couldn’t before.
That said, this was actually my first attempt.
I had a general sense that the spell’s structure implied a area-of-effect attack, but the actual destructive power exceeded expectations—quite literally shocking.
The ground within a hundred-meter radius centered on me is indented by about five meters.
The area where the darkness converged and collapsed into itself is now a deep pit.
Scanning it reveals the hole penetrates beyond the detection range.
This must have pierced through the middle layer and reached the lower layer.
Though I’m not sure whether a lower layer even exists beneath this.
Still, seeing this hole, one can’t help but think it leads straight to the Gate of Hell.
As expected of the Gate of Hell.
No wonder monsters flee at such power.
Yet, despite felling a considerable number of monsters, no level-up occurred.
A level-up at that moment would have given me more leeway.
Was it insufficient experience?
Hmm.
Still, I thought I had defeated enough monsters.
Well, whatever.
Managed to win, after all.
Ah, but my level did rise somewhat—now at nineteen.
Only one more level needed to evolve.

Thus, we retreat, heaving the fire dragon’s body.
The speed of the approaching magma was not particularly fast, but due to the delay in carrying the fire dragon, it was a narrow escape.
We nearly sank into the magma.
You’d say just abandon the fire dragon, but after all that effort to defeat it—refusing to eat it would be the real insult.
Defeat. Consume. Thank you for the meal.
All part of the same sequence.
Though, monsters swallowed by Abyss Magic vanish completely, leaving nothing behind to eat.
Phew.
Now then, time for the usual task—scaling the body.
