Grandfather ×2 VS Ogre
I'll show you more.
Changed disciple one to disciple two from the previous chapter.
Disciple one is Julius among the elders.
"Follow the procedure as instructed, disciple two."
"Seriously, am I really doing this? Ah, if I mess up, I'm not responsible!"
Disciple two begins constructing the spell.
Mmm.
Too slow.
Ah, the construction there was taught last time, wasn't it?
Ah, again adding unnecessary thickness and wasting mana.
You don't get it.
Time passes as disciple two completes the spell.
A mass of air strikes the ground from above.
Storm Magic: "Airfall."
Originally intended not for killing, but to immobilize large enemy forces. With amplified power, it can also crush opponents—broad-area magic.
The spell detonates the magic sword buried in the ground, as intended.
How deeply are you burying them, anyway?
The entire area around us has been blown apart.
Had we charged blindly, we'd have been annihilated.
"Can't... go on..."
Apprentice Two collapses, drained of magic.
Still, not bad for a beginner.
"Now is the moment! Full charge!"
Nyodzu's command triggers the knights' advance.
Huh?
Something's flying in.
Is that a sword?
Multiple swords are seen flying through the air, piercing the ground.
"Explosion imminent! Stay back!"
Nyodzu warns, but I do not perceive these as explosive blades.
The distance between the knights and the projectiles is too great.
The thrown swords have struck the ground far to the side of the knights.
All swords were thrown to avoid the knights entirely.
The explosion should not cause damage this far away.
This is not a simple attack. There must be another intent.
What is the target?
As if answering my question, another sword flies in.
This time aimed at the center of the knights.
Immediately afterward, a purple lightning bolt detonates.
Lightning spreads outward in all directions, ravaging the knights.
Then, one after another, swords fly in, each triggering a thunderclap.
"Oh ho! Look! Is this not magnificent!"
I exclaim, exhilarated.
Magnificent!
This is not merely detonating the lightning blade.
The first blade, driven into the ground— it absorbs the lightning.
Arranged around the knights, these blades.
The blades likely possess the ability to absorb and concentrate lightning.
Lightning, normally confined to a minuscule area, is drawn toward the magical blade and dispersed.
As if deliberately traversing the space within the blade’s range.
Was the blade positioned with this effect in mind?
Executing it perfectly.
“Such a use for that blade! Unbelievable! Simply incredible! Hahaha!”
“S- sir, this isn’t really… a laughing matter…”
“Precisely! It’s moving! Do something—deal with the blade embedded in the ground!”
Ah, stop it!
My mental protest is futile. One of the relatively unharmed knights pulls a single blade from the earth.
The blade detonates immediately. Lightning sears the knight’s body to ash.
“A trap this intricate wouldn’t lack countermeasures for a blade being withdrawn.”
A new blade pierces the ground just beside the fallen knight.
A most tempting prospect, but continuing thus will result in total annihilation. No choice. Slight increase in effort, then.
The ogre’s ability and its deployment are remarkable, but this state of affairs favors the enemy too greatly.
A most regrettable necessity. I shall now engage with genuine intent.
“Then, go—Nyudzu.”
“Huh!?!”
Confirm the ogre’s position via long-range vision.
Activate teleportation magic.
Nyudzu appears directly before the ogre.
The ogre’s eyes widen in shock.
Nyudzu appears startled as well, yet—remarkable—recovers with remarkable speed.
Nyudzu’s blade presses forward. The ogre parries with the magic sword at its waist.
Stalemate. Both recoil simultaneously.
Then, the clash of blades begins between Nyudzu and the ogre.
Identification impossible without visual aid, but by sight alone, Nyudzu appears nearly evenly matched.
Nyudzu is called a Sword Saint, though one might question that title.
Among humans, he is undeniably the highest-level swordsman. Yet, even so, he is matched.
In my estimation, Nyudzu holds the superior technique in swordplay.
In raw strength alone, the ogre would prevail.
Yet, the report of sudden power increase is concerning.
Should Nyudzu be overwhelmed, a genuine defeat is possible.
Though Nyudzu abhors unnecessary purity, we shall lend support.
Fire and lightning are attributes the ogre also wields—thus, they will be difficult to penetrate.
That leaves only one other attribute excelling at range: light.
Initiate magic construction.
Execute ranged attack.
The advantage of light magic lies in near-simultaneous release and impact, allowing precise targeting.
As a result, the magic strikes only the ogre, avoiding the frantic movements of the Nudz.
Light magic hits the ogre’s leg precisely.
"Still not human-level, huh."
The second disciple mutters, but such precision is necessary going forward.
The ogre’s movement slows after taking the direct hit.
The Nudz seizes the opening and charges forward boldly.
The ogre swings the sword in its right hand—flames erupt from the tip.
The flames, however, do not reach the Nudz.
The Nudz wields a wind-infused magical blade.
Gusting wind deflects and disperses the flames.
Instead, the Nudz cuts straight through the flames toward the ogre.
The ogre blocks with the magical sword in its left hand.
Lightning erupts from the blade.
The Nudz is thrown backward.
But this is not enough to kill it.
The ogre seizes the brief opening created by pushing aside the Nudz and is struck again by my magic.
This time, the spell carries greater force.
The ogre's head is shattered.
Even it cannot survive such a wound to the skull.
The ogre sways, staggering.
As it falls, it hurls the sword it holds.
Last-ditch effort. The lightning-infused blade strikes the knight directly, ending its life.
Unfortunate knight.
But this is the end.
Yet, the ogre immediately glows and rises again.
The wound I shot through its head has vanished.
What is this!
I have heard of complete regeneration, but can it truly heal even fatal wounds?
Trouble.
Now I face a creature that cannot die.
If even a headshot can be recovered in time, then destroying the body to splinters before regeneration completes might be the only way to defeat it.
Just as I began to consider inevitable defeat, the ogre turned and fled.
Its speed was astonishing. Likely used the power-up ability, spoken of in tales, for escape.
Why flee after recovery?
Recovery must have conditions. Not something that can be used freely.
Unknown.
Unknown, but perhaps I narrowly avoided death.
