Chapter 311: Graffiti
Not even half an hour later, the destination was found.
Japan's premier large-scale complex—the Tokyo Big Mall.
The building formed an enormous "V" shape, with three multi-level parking structures surrounding it. Near the entrance, a small amusement park-like attraction was attached, and a row of mobile vendor carts selling melon bread, soup, and mixed juices lined up neatly.
"…………"
"…………"
"…………"
"…………"
Of course, more than anything else, what captured our attention was—
"Guess it's true—these 'zombies' from around here, they've all gathered here..."
The terrifying number of "zombies" before us.
Even counting my memories from my previous life, I've never seen a crowd this large.
The number was beyond human comprehension—there was no way to grasp exactly how many "zombies" had gathered, but even Japan's most popular musician couldn't summon a crowd this large (?).
The streets around Akasaka Mitsuke and Nagatacho are already completely packed with "zombies," jammed shoulder to shoulder. Though I can't see clearly from here, the National Diet Building is likely in the same state. Judging by the number of "zombies" gathered nearby, there are probably at least two million, and possibly even many more.
The groans of the "zombies" had grown into a deafening roar, their restless murmurs reaching us even from afar.
We were now on top of a skyscraper along the road, observing the scene from about a kilometer away.
From this vantage point, we could just see the rooftop of Tokyo Big Mall, though at present, there was no sign of human life.
Yet on the rooftop of the building, scattered in red spray paint, were crude and tasteless graffiti that read:
『HELP!』
『Please, someone save me』
『God』
『Please send help』
『Woman』
『FUCK』
『Breasts』
『(A poorly drawn image likely depicting a naked woman)』
and other similarly undignified messages.
"It seems clear, at least, that they're pleading for rescue..."
"That's one thing, but... hehehe. What now? How do you plan to rescue them? It's impossible to fight that many, even for us."
"Indeed, it's clear they'll all be wiped out from magical exhaustion..."
"Still, getting inside isn't impossible, if we're clever."
"What do you mean?"
"Cover ourselves in zombie corpses and mimic them."
"That... let's not even think about it."
It's filthy and stinks.
Besides, if our mimicry were to be exposed right in the middle of them, the risk would be too high.
"By the way, how many of us here can actually fly?"
When I asked, the other three all made awkward expressions.
"It's not that simple. That's tough."
Ah, yeah, probably impossible then.
"We could always bring Hakuha along."
"Ugh... no way. If she gets angry, who knows what she'll do."
"I think they'll listen if I speak to them."
"Even so... the 'door' connecting to this side—dragons probably won't pass through."
That's true.
"Then I'll have to fly back and forth across the sky. Since we don't know what's happening on the other side, let's leave right away."
Good thing I brought lots of chocolate bars.
Thanks for the advice, Tōru.
"Still... you're not going to crash or anything, are you?"
"I'm fine—though moving around with such heavy gear... it's not great for conserving magical energy..."
She glanced briefly at Nanami's heavy equipment.
She frowned for a moment, then sighed.
"Aahh, okay, okay! I get it—just make it lighter, right?"
And with that, she started tossing everything—helmet, armor, and all—off one by one.
As a result, Nanami and Mai were once again nearly identical in appearance.
"But everyone, just in case, keep the suicide pistol with you, okay?"
"Got it."
"And um... the order of who jumps first..."
At that moment, Mayi interjected.
"Hey, 'Nameless' girl....Could you please go after me? If I let some idiot go first, they'll probably come up with something bad again."
"Hehehe. Who exactly is the idiot here?"
"Who knows? Try guessing?"
Something feels off in the air...
I thought about applying moxibustion again if necessary... but well, I don't think we'll need to go that far yet.
"Understood. We'll carry them over in this order: Mayumi-san, Ran-chan, and finally Nanami-san....That's fine, right?"
"Eh? I'm last?!?"
"Please bear with it."
"Cheee. Well, okay, I guess."
Nanami pouts slightly, but she's always so understanding.
The reason for this order was simply to avoid having you and Mayi be alone together.
"By the way, there's something that's been bothering me."
"What is it?"
"About the graffiti drawn over there— it doesn't seem to be written in mirror writing, somehow."
"Oh… now that you mention it…"
"I'm really confused. I thought that if I were a person from the 'Land of Mirrors,' I'd naturally write in mirror script."
"Who knows?"
Nanami replied with an indifferent shrug.
"Instead of thinking about it here, wouldn't it be fastest to just meet face to face?"
Well, yeah, that makes sense too.
