On the ship

On the ship

"...Rou, Tarou, please wake up."

I must have fallen asleep without noticing.

Though it was a rough treatment, my strength has recovered considerably.

The sounds outside and the rocking of the ship suggest we're still in a storm zone. It's calmed down quite a bit, though.

Thanks to the passage of time, I've finally grown accustomed to this swaying.

"What's wrong? Alex."

"How are you feeling? You seem to be recovering."

"I'm much better. It's unusual for you to care about something like this."

Though it was too dark to see clearly, Alex too had a pale face.

"I'm sorry, but if possible, I'd like you to use a recovery gem. I've never heard that they work against seasickness, but I thought you might be able to do something about it."

"Strange—never thought you'd be this weak. Well, never mind. Have you ever heard of the saying 'Good medicine tastes bitter'? This is just that."

"Um... I don't understand what you mean, but I'll take your word for it."

After that, Alek was completely paralyzed.

Several hours later, we stepped out onto the ship's deck, feeling the wind on our skin.

"I can't believe I ended up making such a fool of myself—truly a lifetime regret. And that motion sickness remedy was torture. There was no pain, yet my body was numb and wouldn't move, as if I weren't even myself anymore."

"Everyone has their weak moments. Still, your paralyzed expression was kind of amusing."

I'm sorry, Alex, but I'll try adjusting the output using Alex.

I've been feeling dizzy again just being inside the ship, so even though it's cold, I stepped outside.

The sea was completely calm now, having regained its stillness. Though my body feels a bit chilly, I feel refreshed.

"How many more days do we have to keep going?"

"Already giving up? Not even close yet."

"Seriously? Sigh... is there anything worth catching in the sea? I'm getting bored with nothing to do."

As we continued with meaningless chatter,

"Master Alek and Master Taro, if you please. The young master is calling for you."

A maid with a visibly pale face called out to us.

Inside the sailing ship, there was a separate room specially prepared for nobles. Naturally, it was well-made.

A nobleman if ever there was one. Before we even entered the room, a maid stopped us.

"Please, both of you—have you brought anything to sober up? We heard you were both drunk earlier, but now you seem fine."

"No, we don't have anything like that."

Aleks responds.

"We heard you were both quite drunk when you boarded the ship, but now you're perfectly fine. We thought you might have something hidden. Are you sure you're not hiding anything?"

The maid pressed, her tone growing sharper—no, it was more like she was glaring at us.

I huffed slightly and replied.

"Isn't it obvious? I don't have it."

I submitted myself to a search.

"Indeed, you seem to truly not be carrying it. Then, how did you recover?"

I pondered for a moment.

"Why are you so fixated on this? Seasickness will pass on its own, won't it?"

The maid glanced briefly at Alex and surprisingly admitted it without hesitation.

"In truth, the young master has been unwell for quite some time now. If you have any means of restoring his health, I would be deeply grateful for your assistance."

With that, she bowed deeply. Nobles typically do not seek help from commoners—this was no different.

I met Alex’s gaze, then turned back to the maid and said:

"The request is to safely deliver the person under protection. I believe this falls within the scope of the mission."

I'll lend my assistance, but I'm not a doctor. I can only offer a patchwork of folk remedies, so I'll leave that part up to you.

When I entered the room, I found a boy with a pale face struggling visibly. He had clearly thrown up quite a bit, filling the air with a distinct odor. The noble boy looked worse than I had expected.

I checked the boy's condition. His breathing was ragged, and his limbs appeared to be trembling. When I touched him, his body temperature felt high. He seemed to have noticed me, but couldn't speak properly. Clearly, he was suffering from severe dehydration.

"Please give him water as soon as possible, and something to cool his body down."

While supporting him, I activated a healing rune. My power was too weak to fully harness the rune's effect.

Still, it should ease his condition slightly.

I tended to him desperately. Even a simple case of seasickness, nearly fatal!

I truly felt the difference from the world he came from.

While carefully giving him small sips of water to ease his suffering, I continued using the healing stone. After about half a day, he seemed to have stabilized.

His complexion had improved somewhat. I’d never heard that healing stones worked on seasickness... but I had no idea what they were actually effective against.

"Master, how are you feeling?" The maid asked, concern in her voice.

"I'm still feeling queasy."

He still seemed to be suffering discomfort. But could anything more be done for a child who had already drained so much of their strength?

Would the methods used on me or Alex be effective? I couldn't just try them without knowing for sure.

"I'm still feeling uneasy, but there's nothing more I can do right now. Let's keep an eye on things for a while longer. It's fine—there's no doubt they're recovering steadily."

I turned back to the maid, speaking despite the helplessness I felt.

After that, I continued to administer the recovery magic stone. By the time the headache became quite intense, the noble child was quietly breathing steadily and peacefully.

You've had a tough day. Are you sure it was okay to use that much mana energy?

I'm not okay. My head feels like it's splitting open. I can't use mana stones today.

After exchanging a few words with Alex, I lay down and fell asleep as if unconscious.

The next day, the sea remained calm, and as I stood idly on deck, I sensed a shadow behind me.

You seem to like standing behind people, surprisingly enough.

I turned around, saying that aloud, and there stood Alek, looking remarkably lively and like a nobleman once again.
