Before coming to this dungeon, I was a slave. And before I was a slave, I was an adventurer.
To an adventurer, a dungeon is like a treasure chest filled with the dream of striking it rich. I, too, used to delve into dungeons on a small scale, hoping for that big payday. It’s strange to think that now, I’ve ended up on the side of those who create them.
Right now, Rock, the Adventurer Guild Master, is explaining how this dungeon will be handled.
"So, to reiterate. While you representatives refer to the areas within this dungeon as 'small dungeons,' from our assessment, each one of those clusters is equivalent to a medium-sized dungeon. This dungeon itself is the largest in history, unparalleled by anything in the past."
Yeah, I suppose that’s true. The idea that about ten thousand people can live inside a dungeon is a scale that’s hard to fathom.
"Furthermore, based on the current situation, the Adventurer Guild has determined that the safety of this dungeon is unprecedented. Right before our eyes, monsters are generated, yet they do not harm us and instead assist in maintaining the peace within this dungeon."
It’s rare to find a dungeon deemed "safe," isn't it? No, it might be a world first.
"On top of that, the incredible fact that this dungeon can be controlled has led the Adventurer Guild to decide to provide our full support. Consequently, I apologize for the intrusion, but we would like to have a say in the management of the dungeon."
"Oh? You’ve got some nerve."
Seraria-sama narrows her eyes and glares at Rock. It’s scary.
"No, please, I don't want there to be any misunderstandings. I am not talking about the operation of the dungeon itself, but rather regarding the areas you call 'small dungeons'."
"…What do you mean by that?"
"Simply put, it would be problematic if you were to create monsters and produce drop items at your own whim. It would throw the market into total chaos."
"Ah, that makes sense."
"What do you mean by that?"
I tilt my head, not quite understanding.
"Well, Tori. You know that monsters defeated in a dungeon leave behind drop items, and there’s no need to dismantle them, right?"
"Yes. And sometimes they drop items that are otherwise impossible to obtain, right?"
"That is the problem. We can generate monsters freely and fight them until we get the rare items we want."
"Ah."
I see. If we did that, we could get whatever items we wanted. If that happened, the prices of goods made from those materials would be thrown into complete disarray.
"Yes, as Eris-sama says. If you were to do that carelessly, it would cause chaos for the adventurers, merchants, blacksmiths, apothecaries, and countless others who earn their daily bread from those goods. We would like you to refrain from that."
"That stands to reason. Our goal isn't to cause chaos for those around us. However, could we not offer them as quests? Keeping a certain amount in stock should be fine, shouldn't it?"
"Yes, that would be ideal. The headquarters would also be grateful if you could keep a specified number of valuable items in storage. This place is perfect for protecting valuables, after all."
"I see. Would the back of the Guild Master's room be a good place for the storage?"
"Yes, please do that."
"Is that all you wanted to have a say in?"
"No, I would also like you to teach us about the types of monsters and how to deal with them, as much as possible."
I see, that’s important. If we can gather advance information on monsters that would normally cause many deaths when encountered by chance, it could be put to good use in the future.
"That, too, is understandable. Should we prepare an experimental area?"
"If you could, I would appreciate it."
"…Um, Seraria-sama. I have a good idea for that."
"What is it? Tell me, Tori."
"Couldn't we conduct monster experiments at the arena in the entertainment district that we were proposing earlier? Only adventurers really use the arena anyway."
"That’s a good idea. We were struggling with how to set it up since it isn't used that often, weren't we?"
"Yes, and the maintenance costs are no joke. But if we use it for experiments, having permanent guards stationed there wouldn't be a waste. And if we make sure that we are always present when monsters are generated, there shouldn't be any problems. I am, however, against keeping the summoned monsters in the arena."
"Heh, that way we can see all sorts of monsters, and we might find ones that are useful for the dungeon!"
When Riel says that, everyone looks surprised.
"Riel is right. Up until now, Goblins and Slimes were so powerful that we only summoned other monsters for fun, but as Riel says, there might be monsters that are effective depending on how they are used. We absolutely must build this."
"In that case, shall we create a specialized department? Thinking about our current conversation, we will need personnel to properly compile and manage the information."
"Yes, creating a new department would be best. …However, I wonder who should be in charge?"
"Seraria, wait, wait. We’re still in the middle of listening to Rock. Let's make a note of things like that and summarize them properly later. It’s not something we can decide on the spot."
"Oh, I'm sorry. It’s just so interesting."
Seraria-sama says this and smiles at Yuki-san.

"Yes, I am grateful to Yuki-dono. It is far too convenient when combined with the files."
Yuki-san and Rock are laughing together. Is there something that men just understand between each other?
