### Pitfall 147: Summer Ghost Story Revival - Monitoring Room
**Side: Ratz**
"Well, I'm stuffed. Shall we go explore the area?"
"Indeed. As much as I’d love to hole up here and play games, it would be a waste of a trip, and frankly, a bit socially oblivious."
"True. We didn't come all this way just to stay inside. Let’s get our gear ready for tonight and head out."
The guys were chatting away, looking quite happy as they prepared their gaming equipment.
"……What are they doing?"
"Master……"
Seraria and Rurua wore somewhat complicated expressions as they watched the feed. I suppose it is a bit questionable to travel all the way to a traditional inn only to spend the time gaming. Still…
"Ahaha, the guys just really love their games, don't they?"
That’s right. They love gaming so much that whenever a new title drops, they’ll force themselves to take time off just to play it.
"Indeed. They’re always training with FPS and TPS titles."
"No, that’s just Eris. And honestly, can we stop with the ten-match-a-day quota? It’s incredibly draining on the spirit."
"……I’d prefer you stop when I’m tired."
Eris, despite her appearance, is completely hooked on the 100-player battle royale game the guys recommended. I’ve been playing along too, but ten matches in a four-person squad is a bit much; I’d really like to scale that back.
While we were talking, the guys finished their preparations and headed out of the room.
"So, Yuki and the others have left the room. Are we going to set the trap now? Should I help? Leave it to me!"
Hairen, ever eager, started to stand up, but—
"Lady Hairen, please sit down."
"We’re dealing with Master Yuki and his friends. Any clumsy interference will be spotted immediately, so please wait."
Kagura and Mikos immediately pinned her down and guided her back into her chair. It’s obvious that if we left it to Hairen, the guys would catch on in a heartbeat.
"So, what’s the next move?"
I asked Deryu, the mastermind behind this operation, for instructions.
"We wait and observe for now. It’s broad daylight, and we aren't in a crowded area. If it were just Taiki, maybe, but if we accidentally get caught by Taizo or Yuki, it’s game over."
"True. And it’s only the first day. No need to rush."
Seraria agreed with Deryu’s assessment. She’s right; trying to force a trap today would be reckless.
"But Deryu, if we’re going to trap Yuki, isn't now the best time while they’re all out of the inn? Not that I should be saying this as his guard."
"Right? I feel like they’d be more prone to letting their guard down in a new location. Besides, they’re heading to the waterfall near the inn, aren't they? Again, I’m a guard, so I shouldn't be saying this, but..."
Jessica and Ria, our resident guard duo, chimed in with their professional opinion. They have a point. And as Ria noted, they were likely heading to the inn’s famous waterfall. The sound of the water and the scenery would be a perfect distraction to exploit, but—
"I understand your reasoning, but we wait. As I said, I’ve already set some things up for Taiki, so he’s likely on high alert. No need to rush. We wait for nightfall. Hairen, you understand?"
"Fine, fine. I suppose you’re right; they’d notice something fishy immediately."
Hairen seemed to accept it. If she tried to move on her own, we’d have no choice but to roll her up in a mat.
"I understand what Jessica and Ria are saying, but we are holding off. Is that clear?"
"Yes. I agree with Deryu. Besides, it’s incredibly difficult to do anything without Yuki noticing."
"Exactly. They just arrived at the inn, and they’ve already memorized the placement of all the security cameras."
Indeed. At the very least, Yuki knows we’re watching. Any trap set now would be a waste.
"If we only had one chance to scare them, then Jessica and Ria would be right about the waterfall. But our goal is to spook them with supernatural phenomena. We need to play the long game. We observe for today."
Everyone nodded at Deryu’s words. Besides, it’s genuinely fun to watch the guys enjoying their time together. As we talked, they arrived at the waterfall.
『So this is the waterfall Kirue mentioned.』
『It’s surprisingly grand. I thought it would be a smaller one.』
『Hmm. It’s a good ten meters high, and there’s a path behind the falls. It’s designed to look perfectly natural. Impressive. I wonder what they used as a reference.』
『Who knows? Japan has plenty of waterfalls. Still, it’s nice and cool here, even in summer.』
『The mist is refreshing. And there’s a little cove where the water lands—perfect for playing around.』
『Come to think of it, I haven't checked the water quality. I wonder if there are any fish?』
They seemed to be enjoying themselves. We couldn't just keep watching them forever, though.
"I’ll leave the monitoring to you, Deryu. I have work to attend to."
"Sigh... I want to keep watching Yuki."
"Same. If only I had some drinks and snacks, I could watch them all day..."
As I stood up, Eris and Milly followed suit with reluctant sighs.
"Leave it to me. The real show starts at night anyway. You all go and do your duties."
"Make sure to record everything."
"Give us the data later."
"I’ll bring some drinks tonight."
With that, we left the monitoring room. Even if the guys are on vacation, we certainly aren't.
*Sigh.*
Well, if we were on vacation, we’d probably be there with them, so we wouldn't be able to scare them anyway.
