"Indeed. For this test run, we’ve hand-picked students who are not only exceptional but also possess a degree of understanding. I wouldn't count on the same for the actual event. If anything, the quality will likely dip. This time, we drew from the Magic Kingdom, the Lancer Magic Academy, the Hayden Magic Institute, and the Zurabul School for Mage Training—all institutions with which we share a history. But the real event will bring together students selected by various nations. Their priorities will take precedence over ours. They’ll be cautious, of course, but they will undoubtedly instruct their children to uphold the pride of their respective homelands."
Ah, she is absolutely right.
This test had been limited to selections from renowned magic schools across the continents, all of which had at least some direct interaction with Weed. But the students arriving for the main event will be from major powers that have had no direct contact with us. While they will be educated, the primary objectives will be to foster an understanding of this new international landscape, expand relations, and broaden their knowledge.
And with that comes the reality that no nation will provide an education that diminishes its own standing. To be looked down upon is to lose national prestige. Furthermore, as we saw with the If Continent, there will inevitably be gaps in understanding, regardless of the education provided. Then, there are the conflicting interests of the noble houses and political factions that sent them here.
...It is a daunting challenge.
"Well, that’s a problem for the future. Ratz, Eris, I’m counting on you. We’ll be participating in the school meetings as well."
"Understood. We look forward to your support when the time comes."
"Understood. I shall begin the preparations."
"Vilia, Hiiro, thank you for the report. Keep a close eye on the school’s atmosphere moving forward. That goes for everyone else attending as well."
As Brother said this, everyone attending the school, myself included, gave a firm nod.
"Now, let’s move on to school security. Tori, are you ready?"
"Yes."
With that, Sister Tori began her report.
Sister Tori and her team are seconded from the police force, specializing in the security of the school and the residences of those affiliated with it. Thanks to them, we are able to meet within the school grounds, and I am delighted that we have more opportunities to talk than before.
"Regarding the security of the school and the residences of its affiliates, there have been no major incidents. However, minor troubles do persist—primarily disagreements between individuals stemming from cultural differences. To address this, the police and the Resident Affairs Department have been providing consultation and hosting regular social gatherings to bridge these gaps. Additionally, Riel has been embedding herself among the residents to investigate any underlying issues."
"Yup. It’s still early days, but I’m already making friends~"
"...The patrolling officers are being properly recognized. The military presence is as well."
"That’s good to hear. It makes the effort I put into it worthwhile. Please, continue with the security."
"Yes!"
I realized that Sister Tori and the others are juggling duties outside the school as well. I had understood that in theory, but hearing the report firsthand makes it feel quite different. It is only natural that those not attending the school would also be bewildered by these cultural differences, and such vigilance is indeed necessary.
Perhaps we students should also keep an eye on our servants and those who accompanied us, to assist Sister Tori and her team. Though, we must discuss this thoroughly beforehand to avoid creating further trouble. We should handle that with care.
"Right. That leaves the military personnel participating in security... I haven't forgotten anyone else, have I?"
I thought about it when Brother asked, but as far as the school-related departments we are responsible for, it is only the military... yes.
"Seems we're clear. Alright then, Steve, please proceed with your report, including the school-related matters."
"You got it. Time for the report from the military."
And so, General Steve began his report from the military side.
On the surface, the school appears peaceful, but it seems to be harboring a great deal beneath the calm. I suppose that is the nature of gathering students from all over the world; it inevitably brings with it a tangled web of agendas.
