"If things continue like this, the resort will be left without a signature attraction."
"You're already coordinating the defense side of things with Aslin, aren't you? I don't see any reason for me to stick my nose in. Unless, of course, there’s some sort of trouble? Is there?"
"None to speak of. But regarding the fishing port..."
"I’ve already explained it to Sisua and Sona, but as it stands, we haven't been able to gather any people. And, naturally, we have no one with any actual experience."
"That’s to be expected. I’ve looked into the maritime consciousness of the people from the Rogari Continent myself, and it’s about as abysmal as it gets. Given the reality of the situation, you can’t exactly call their apprehension a mistake."
As Dressa-sama rightly pointed out, to the people of the Rogari Continent, the sea is an object of pure terror. When I first heard in Weed that small nations actually maintained port towns, I genuinely questioned their sanity. Upon investigating, I found that the monsters appearing near the coast were of such high levels that, had I encountered them before coming to Weed, I would have been killed in an instant.
"Exactly. So, as it stands, we’d be forced to operate a resort without the very seafood that’s supposed to be its main draw."
"That simply won't do."
It truly won't. What is a resort without a signature attraction?
"Right? That’s why, to solve that—or rather, to provide a precedent, a model—I want to borrow some of your military personnel who are experienced in hunting and fishing at sea."
"I see. That makes sense. I suppose you could call monster subjugation a form of fishing, in a way, and they do catch fish as well. You want them to teach the newcomers who will be arriving, correct?"
"Precisely. Since everyone from Rogari knows absolutely nothing about it. Can you manage that?"
"Can we? Yes. It’s just an extension of our standard duties. Though, I suppose teaching civilians might be a slightly different beast."
Indeed, if they used military-style training, I’m certain the townspeople would quit immediately.
"Ah, you're right. Military methods would be a problem. We can't exactly expect them to mimic monster soldiers."
"I’m not that foolish. Perhaps a mix of personnel and monsters would be best?"
"That sounds reasonable. How many can you dispatch?"
"What kind of timeframe are you looking at?"
"Three months at the shortest, maybe a year at the longest?"
"Hmm. Considering the time needed to master the skills, a year feels a bit short, but perhaps that’s appropriate?"
"Likely. I’d prefer longer, but time doesn't always equate to mastery. Plus, we’ll be optimizing things on our end as well."
"Yes. I imagine the civilians and the fishermen at the port will find methods that suit them best as they go."
We cannot remain under someone else's wing forever; we must shed our dependence. In that sense, while we are currently supported by Yuki-sama, the reality is that our training has been quite rigorous. Ever since Yuki-sama acquired us, we were immediately taken by Tori-sama and the others to make rounds to meet the dignitaries, drilled in various tasks by Kirika-sama and Kirue-sama, and hammered with the intricacies of diplomacy by Shera-sama and Samantha-sama. It has been surprisingly intense.
"Well, that’s true. A period that is neither too long nor too short should keep them focused. After all, this is a matter where one could easily lose their life. If we’re looking at a year, it would be better to dispatch them as a dedicated team, wouldn't it?"
"True. If the personnel keep changing, it’ll only confuse both the teachers and the students."
"Then, accounting for leave and rotations, four people should suffice."
"That sounds reasonable."
"And what about information regarding the vessels?"
"Ah, here is the manual. I have the actual ships."
"When will the instruction begin? Unless they are like Yayui, it’s impossible for them to pilot a ship they’ve never seen before."
"Right. I’ll have them ready for practice within a few days. I’m also planning to hire some people from Aurelia Port who are well-versed in fishing."
"So you’re gathering people for the fishing side of things as well."
"Exactly. So, please handle the selection. I’m heading to Aurelia Port now."
"Understood. Take care. Yayui, choosing the right people is a good learning experience for you as well."
"Yes. I will do my best."
Still, I am but an amateur when it comes to fishing; I hardly know what makes a person 'good' or 'bad' at it. With that thought, we left the naval port and headed toward Aurelia Port. If we are to be taught, it is best to learn from the experts. Though, whether they have the aptitude to teach is another matter entirely.
