Chapter 1680: Who Goes Next?

Side: Hovis

I’m truly happy that Yayui-chan is working so hard, but for me, I have to admit I’m a little dissatisfied. It’s not that she isn’t useful to Yuki-sama, but she just isn’t as sharp as that. Well, I suppose Yayui-chan herself hates that transformation of hers.

Orelia and I are doing our own work, and since we are professionals behind the wheel, I don’t think there’s any problem at all. The wives, and of course Yuki-sama, don’t take issue with it either. After all, we are true professionals. Even Kirika-sama and Kirue-sama, who oversee our training, have nothing to say regarding our driving. Though, I suppose everyone’s face does twitch a bit the first time they see that transformation—or rather, that metamorphosis—up close.

Well, setting that aside...

"Now that the report is finished, let’s talk about the final school visit: Nonoa’s Magic University."

Yes, with the visits to the international exchange schools in Zurabul concluded, we are moving on to the next—or rather, the final scheduled visit—to Nonoa-sama’s Magic University. Honestly, though, I don’t think there’s all that much to discuss.

"Well, I say that, but the curriculum won't be much different from Zurabul. The students are planning to discuss population control and food shortages, so that’s me. Basic Weed knowledge will be Comet, medical will be Lyushi, and magic and physical education are the concerns, right?"

"Stasia is out for this one, and I’ve already filled in for Tori’s shift once, so I think someone else should go."

"……Physical education is fine, but what about magic? Technically, neither Samantha nor I are incapable, but……"

"Honestly, in terms of sheer knowledge and specialization, we simply fall short of Comet-san."

That’s true. Even within Weed, Comet-sama possesses the greatest depth of magical knowledge. And when it comes to teaching, the two of them are just a bit different, aren't they?

"There’s no need to force anyone to volunteer. Comet has already said she’s willing to act as an instructor at Nonoa’s as well. Cleena and Samantha, could you go as assistants, or perhaps even join the student side?"

"……The student side. That’s a delicate position."

"Cleena-san, you’d be doing both, wouldn't you? Since you want to learn their techniques. In that sense, the same applies to me."

"Ah, I see. You’re right. It’s not like you’re going there to attend classes as beginners... so, observing is fine, isn't it? There’s no need to produce tangible results like Nairua and Wazfi did."

That’s certainly true. Nairua-sama and Wazfi-sama didn't have any outwardly obvious achievements, so that was a good opportunity for them, but Cleena-sama and Samantha-sama have already proven themselves sufficiently under Yuki-sama, both in diplomacy and in the management of Weed thus far.

"……I think that would be fine, but will we get permission from Nonoa?"

"If we aren't careful…… well, it is a matter of having our technology seen by another country."

"True, there will be restrictions, but that just means we can do whatever falls within the scope of what they allow."

"……That’s true."

"Ah, you’re right. For some reason, I had the impression we were going to investigate everything down to the last detail."

Haha, when Yuki-sama fights an enemy, he does lay bare all their secrets, after all.

"Disclosing a certain amount of technology to other countries is also a way to show off our national strength. Especially since the Magic Country exports its magical technology to others. They must have things intended for external use, so I’ll just ask to be shown those."

That is certainly true. It is called the "Magic Country," after all—I’d heard of it even before I came to Weed—so there is no doubt that such things exist. If they didn't have such things, they wouldn't be able to function as a Magic Country.

"……Even so, is that really necessary for us?"

"No, it’s not just about the technical side; there might be things to learn from their educational methods or fundamental theories. If you narrow it down to just technical prowess—or rather, raw firepower—it’s highly likely they’ll pale in comparison to Weed."

As Yuki-sama says, it’s fair to say there isn't a country that has caught up to Weed’s level of technology. It’s true that even the three major schools—the Magic Country, the Lancer Magic Academy, and the Haiden Magic Academy—are inferior to the firepower Weed possesses. However, I’ve realized since coming to Weed that one shouldn't judge solely by firepower. If there are magical techniques that can improve people’s daily lives, that alone raises the standard of living.

"Indeed, if it’s not firepower for war, but useful technology, there might be something there."

"……I see. Like finding talents that are still buried, just like in Weed?"

"Talent refers to the students. Well, if we can understand how they teach the fundamental theories of magic, it might help spread magic to more people in Weed."

"Isn't that the Magic Country’s biggest secret?"

"Nah, I doubt it’s that big of a deal. It’s not like I’m saying every single citizen can use top-tier attack magic, but since everyone is doing it, I’m sure they’ve already braced themselves for information leaks."

Ah, it’s famous that every citizen can use at least basic attack magic, but looking at it another way, it means every citizen has mastered that technique. That being the case, it seems likely that some information would leak out from there.

"……I understand what Yuki is saying. But I’ve never heard of the method the Magic Country uses to turn all its citizens into mages being leaked."

"Cleena-san is right. We haven't received any reports of that nature, so is it even something that can be understood?"

"Well, we won't know until we try, and that’s not the only thing worth looking at. We could also consider looking for abandoned research papers to see if anything can be salvaged."

"……That sounds fun."

"So, it means we’ll be digging up things that weren't considered important in the Magic Country."

"Well, that’ll be something to look forward to once we get there. The personnel are mostly decided, so let’s go talk to Seraria and then inform Nonoa."

With that, Yuki-sama decided on the personnel and led us to Seraria-sama’s office.

"Oh, welcome. It seems you’ve been causing quite a stir in Zurabul."

"Don't make it sound like we were rampaging. Everyone was very pleased with us."

"I suppose so. I never expected you to use the students to push for the use of the stalled cores."

Ah, that was the bit about quickly starting car production to establish transportation and medical technology, alongside population control and food production. I was surprised when I heard that story, too.
