Chapter 34: Illegal Act
"Can't have you playing around like that. Using magic without government approval is illegal, you know that, right? Depending on the situation, it could even be treason."
"Now's not the time for that! Hundreds of people are in danger! We have to go now—before it's too late!"
"That's just your delusion. If Osaka were really under attack, the Prime Minister's office would've contacted us by now."
"The Prime Minister's office got hit—completely destroyed! They wouldn’t be able to send a single call right now!!"
"There are plenty of Self-Defense Force members in Osaka! We don’t have weak squads that get wiped out easily!!"
As Gojo and Yamamoto argued, Sakaki rushed in, flustered.
"What’s wrong? Gojo-san, is something happening!?"
"Yamamoto, Osaka’s under attack by monsters. I’m about to head there—"
Gojo glanced at Yamamoto, clearly troubled.
"No such report has come in! Gojo-san, please refrain from unauthorized outings. We’ll have trouble later if you do."
Sakaki looked confused, but couldn’t bring himself to believe Gojo was lying.
"Is it really that urgent?"
"I think it’s pretty bad..."
"...Understood. You may go. I’ll take responsibility."
"Wha—don’t say stupid things! You can’t possibly take responsibility for this!!"
Yamamoto was red in the face, shouting at Sakaki with force. But Sakaki didn’t seem fazed at all.
"I believe Gojo-san. Please, save the people of Osaka!"
"Thanks. I’m going."
"What are you talking about?! You’re not leaving this dorm. If you try to go anyway, I’ll stop you by force—"
The moment Yamamoto tried to speak... Gojo was already gone. Behind Yamamoto’s stunned silence, Sakagi thought.
I’m counting on you, Gojo-san—
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
I appeared above Osaka City via instant teleportation. As long as it was within the range of “Thousand-Mile Eye,” I could land exactly where I wanted.
I landed on a rooftop, looking down at the scene below. The town had suffered damage far worse than expected—devastated by Dragon Zombies.
The monsters looked grotesque, their surfaces rotting and decaying. “Enemy Detection” registered five of them.
The Self-Defense Force was fighting desperately with tanks and military helicopters, but they couldn’t land a single hit—literally nothing was working.
The Dragon Zombies’ breath attacks spread wide, and anyone caught in the toxic miasma writhed as their skin turned purple, collapsing one after another.
I froze time, pulled out the Monk’s职业 board, and touched its surface. If I took down all these Dragon Zombies, maybe I could max out the Monk class.
The job skill’s almost at “SSS” already...
I unpaused time and unleashed a full-force spell at the monster directly below me.
“Thunder Crash!!”
A violent lightning strike slammed into the Dragon Zombie.
“Gyuuuuuaaaah!!”
The monster screamed in agony. It sputtered, its surface blackened, but it wasn’t dead yet.
Damn—it’s got high magic defense, and that “Magic Resistance (V)” skill means magic barely scratches it.
The Dragon Zombie breathed a powerful miasma at me from below, but I had “Full Status Effect Immunity,” so it did nothing at all.
I walked up to it without a hitch, and this time it let out a roar packed with shockwaves. Buildings and lamp posts around me blew apart—but I blocked it all with “Barrier Defense.”
“Gravity Press!!”
I used “Gravity Manipulation,” super effective against undead, once I got close enough.
Just as expected, it crumbled to the ground with a loud crack. But—
“Wha—!?”
The broken bones and flesh floated up, reassembling itself like nothing happened.
“What the hell is this?! Is this some kind of ability they’ve got?!”
Weird… I checked its skills with鉴定—should’ve only had “Magic Resistance (V)”… Why the hell does it have this kind of power!?
“Eh, whatever… Earth Magic, Stone Spear Array!”
Giant stone pillars erupted from the ground around the Dragon Zombie, impaling it through the body.
“Now you can’t move. Erase you completely. Combined Magic—Flame Tornado!”
Trapped in the rock, the monster was torn apart and burned to ash by a whirlwind of flames.
I went all out with the magic—Osaka’s civilians and Self-Defense Force members are gonna see that pillar of fire reaching all the way up into the sky.
“Alright… four more left…”
