Chapter 1311: Once School Ends, It’s Time for Housing
Side: Yuki
It has been seven days since I appointed Raiya to the international student academy, serving as both an assistant to Professor Hortland and a guide for Weed.
It’s not that there haven’t been any issues, but things have reached a point where they are being resolved without me needing to intervene in every single matter.
From misunderstandings during class to cultural exchanges between nations, and even minor troubles during joint classes or parties intended to foster interaction between the continents.
"The primary cause of the trouble is what you might call 'national pride,' where they end up mocking the other side. That leads to arguments over who is right, which then escalates into a scuffle," Ratz reported.
"That said, it’s not as if they’re using magic or anything. Pride in one's country is something everyone carries in their heart. We’ve settled on a 'both sides are at fault' verdict," Eris added.
"How are the students holding up? Any lingering resentment?" I asked.
"Their respective teachers gave them a good knock on the head, and they’ve both apologized. If anything, according to Raiya, the conflicts seem to be deepening their bonds," Ratz replied.
"He said that there are certain things only men can understand through a bit of roughhousing. The female students, on the other hand, were put off by that. They’re busy getting along, looking at fashion magazines, sharing sweets, and chatting about cute clothes. In that sense, he says the girls are much easier to manage," Eris noted.
"That’s... well, I suppose."
Friendships forged through the camaraderie of a fistfight—that’s a distinctly masculine trait, isn't it?
But then again...
"Is there something on my face?"
"No, I just thought Fiora might understand that sentiment?"
"Ahaha, even if it’s coming from you, Master, I’m going to get angry."
"My apologies."
"Being apologized to so honestly is also a bit unfair. Still, it was my own doing, so I shall forgive you. To be honest, I understand the sentiment, but even if you tell me that a man understands it, I don't think I'd be very convinced."
"True enough. Then I suppose leaving it to Raiya was the right call."
"Yes, I believe so."
"Indeed. It seems some students even go to Raiya for advice or to test their strength; he’s quite popular."
"There are a few troublemakers, but Professor Hortland and Raiya are managing to mediate things quite well," Ratz added.
It seems the international academy is running smoothly today as well.
"How is the progress of the curriculum?"
"It’s proceeding right on schedule—or rather, they seem to be ahead of it," Eris said.
"I suppose that means the students are excellent. Or perhaps there’s a possibility that our curriculum is too lenient..."
"We’ll keep an eye on that for now. The main goal is to facilitate interaction between the continents. The point isn't to make them spend all their time studying. You could even say that once the scheduled curriculum is finished, their free time increases."
"I see. So you mean to have them spend that extra time in the commercial or adventurer districts for some social education?"
"Or perhaps holding joint classes that everyone can enjoy would be good, too."
"It might be better to listen to the students' opinions on that. In any case, joint classes will likely increase from here on out, so stay vigilant."
"Understood."
I received the reports and documents, then returned to my office. I filed the papers into the international student system cabinet and collapsed into my chair with a heavy sigh.
"...Phew, finally a moment of peace."
As I lounged in my chair, Yayui brought me some tea.
"Thank you."
While sipping the tea, I picked up the stack of documents on my desk to review their contents.
"Yuki-sama. Judging by your words just now, it sounds like there won't be any issues with the international student system from here on out?"
"Yeah. The reason these things fail is usually because they stumble at the start and can't get the classes off the ground. Once you have a track record of success, you can use that as a benchmark to get back on course if things go wrong."
I stamped the documents and sorted them into the appropriate boxes as I spoke.
"I see. So, if any trouble arises in the future, you can look back at these past seven days as a reference point for when things were going well."
"Exactly as Fiora said. Well, there will surely be various troubles to come, but as long as they stay within the school or within Weed, it shouldn't be a problem. The only thing is..."
I picked up the next document and began processing it.
*Sigh.* Even though it’s just stamping, I have to check the contents carefully. Sometimes there are weird requests, like expanding the cucumber fields or a proposal for me to spend the whole day flirting with Seraria.
I wonder if they’re doing that on purpose because they think I’m not paying attention...
...They aren't actually aiming for that, are they?
Feeling a chill run down my spine, I continued to process the paperwork.
"The... the intervention of... hostile forces, perhaps?"
"That’s right. From now on, we have to worry about external attacks. Well, it’s still in the testing phase, so things probably won't move yet, but since we’ve started accepting residents for the new district at the same time the real international student system is launching, there should be all sorts of movements emerging from that."
As I said that, my hand stopped on the next document.
"Is something the matter? Is there a flaw in the documents?"
Orelia asked, looking curious as to why I had stopped working.
"No, it’s exactly that kind of document."
I flipped it over so Orelia and the others could see it easily...
"The Monster Army wants to discuss dispatching personnel for the security of the new residential district."
Yes, there was a request from the Monster Army to increase the number of guards.
Since I am the head of the Monster Army, that’s where the connection to the new residential district comes in.
"As for the location, it was built using the Dungeon Master's power, wasn't it?"
"Yeah, it was completed with 'Dig Here, Woof Woof.' The Resident Affairs Department is currently inspecting the buildings and guiding the tenants in."
"Inspecting?"
"I think it’s fine, but if there’s any dirt or damage, that’s a problem. We have to check those things thoroughly, or it will cause dissatisfaction among the residents. After all, this is a state-run facility."
"Ah... so a flaw in the state's work would be a stain on our reputation, wouldn't it?"
